I think Attack on Titan is a great example of that. This data has nothing to do with ratings, viewings, and critiques. It's just people looking up the anime, tagging it, and making posts, both positive and negative. So when we wait forever for AOT nobody is searching for it or posting about. But the moment those parts drop the internet blows up with AOT searches and content. So the "popularity" fizzles out and dies again when the season ends. Same thing will happen when the final season drops, the internet will explode and a few months after it ends it wont be on top again.
