It is a literal wave of destruction. Originating deep within the ocean, it poses a seemingly invisible threat until it reaches land. Then, this incredible force of nature can unleash a wrath of Biblical proportions. This is a tsunami. Is there a way to predict such a massive disaster? What can be done to mitigate the damage of these deadly natural catastrophes? In this episode, we examine the causes and the devastation of the 2018 Palu tsunami to better understand and possibly predict tsunamis, and save lives, in the future.

@deborahkutalik9422 You are quite right. The Lituya Bay landslide generated a 1,700 foot, or 1,500-ish meter wave. There have been several in Norway, Iceland also from landslides that hit without warning, one almost as big as the Alaskan one but as it was in a remote bay no one knew about it til well after the incident. ✌️

The sheer power and unpredictability of tsunamis are both awe-inspiring and terrifying. This documentary sheds light on the importance of understanding and predicting these natural disasters. It's a reminder of the resilience of communities affected by tsunamis, and I'm thankful for the knowledge it provides.

what an incredible documentary! i really appreciate how you highlighted the impact of tsunamis. however, i can't help but think that while you focus heavily on their destructive power, there should be more emphasis on how communities are rebuilding and adapting afterward. it’s a complex issue and both sides deserve attention!

Because of the pacific ‘ring of fire’ fault lines, this will always be a risk for everyone who lives along the coast lines. Earthquakes and tsunamis will always be a threat. Nothing can be done about it.

@@juneyshu6197 Yes, you are completely right 💖 Serious difficulties due to a significant increase in natural disasters will begin from 2024. We need to stop all conflicts and separations as soon as possible and unite all humanity for the single goal of survival. To solve climate problems, we have to become a united peaceful civilization and build the *Creative* *Society.* It is a peaceful, safe and fair world without conflicts, crises, poverty, inflation. In the Creative Society human life will be the main priority, so everything will be done to secure and improve it.

I love that there are hundreds and thousands of suits and skirts that sit in their offices with high paying jobs on their laptops measuring and predicting and studying all of these systems, but when the system devastates the area in question, there's no sufficient or delayed response and not enough money to help. But hey, there's plenty of experts with nicely framed credentials hanging on their million dollar walls.

OK u don't really need to say weather or not an earth quake will produce a tsunami, I mean how about coastal places just prepare for it anyway after earthquakes strong enough to produce one. Duh, I mean in Japan they should have known.

You can imagine the earth without water, water balances the shape of the earth, and its revolving or orbiting around its self, and the sun. Ebb and tide are considered as a safety vale for the earth, and its rotation. Earth with water slows its revolving... The water increased because of the melting of ice caps of polars and Himalayas, therefore the force of revolving increases too... NOW:The length of the year now is [ 365 1/4 +_(2 minutes )]....
