I'm a fan of Armatrading so I was happy to find this album ranking. I wasn't aware of her early years and material so thank you for highlighting both. I enjoy her 'classic' period but am open to exploring albums on either side. For me, TO THE LIMIT is under-rated but one of her very enjoyable listens, chokeful of strong songs. Oddly, it was largely ignore when her double-retrospective compilation was released by A&M. Maybe the powers didn't like some of her deep vocals, compared to the other albums. Her backing musicians were often excellent, including members of Fairport Convention/Fotheringay, giving her albums an organic sound. Thanks again for your ranking, Stefan.

Awesome work Stefan. The album you ranked number one I have never really given time to. I will do so now. I couldn't agree more with two of your sentiments. Love by You from Secret Secrets is a phenomenal song. And your second point, established artists from the 70s really struggled in the late 80s. Elton John, David Bowie, and Billy Joel to name a few were releasing their worst work.
