I've seen a PSA graded Charizard in-person for the first time yesterday at my local card shop. They want $6,000 for it! Along with a few packs of base set cards for $1,000 a piece! Good lord, how I wish I got into the hobby back then!

In my area, it wasn't that charizard was everyones favourite, it was that absolutely no one had a copy. Every child in my primary school collected pokemon cards, even the girls. Every kid on my street collected, even the older ones in secondary school. Yet still nobody had one. Many people had a full base set, minus charizard. No one had even seen one outside of a magazine. I finally managed to see one once the Dark versions of cards came out. Some kid had a Dark Charizard and a base Charizard but it was torn and beat up to buggery, might have even been fake.

Mewtwo was a theme deck holo same as Ninetails, Hitmonchan, and Gyarados - this kept their prices lower at the time and meant that waay more of them were printed.

The Clefairy as a holo makes sense, Base Set came out in Japan some months before the anime started. There was a very popular manga running with Clefairy in CoroCoro comics, so Clefairy kind of was the mascot of Pokemon at the time.

Been getting back into collecting and playing, love your content, would love one on the different gimmicks over the 2nd gen+ years, like e-reader, delta, etc - a lot of us that are getting back into it missed a lot of those years :-) Also, you should mention the Legendary collection, Evolutions, and Celebrations as other versions of the Big Three with different set symbols. A video on all variations of the big three would be cool, I just found out about the CD reader ones in Japanese with the Game art, those are really cool

Clefairy I believe was a holographic card because the timing was linked to pokemon GB red and blue. Basically Clefairy was the rarest spawn early game in Mt.moon and alot of people tried and failed to catch it on a first playthrough. Deserves a holo great character and card 👏 Paradoxically could be compared to why Pichu and the baby pokemon got a holo version in later sets which was perhaps fun but unnecessary

as someone who used to play gen 1 online all the time, about 5 years ago, using TCG ONE, can proudly say that the most valuable cards to get were the trainer cards, like computer search, item finder, bill and professor oak. the haymakers (Hitmonchan and Electabuzz. Scyther was from Jungle). Blastoise, Chansey and Clefairy (but only because you'll want it to evolve into the Clefable from Jungle). Venusaur and Alakazam has some niece fun plays with Pokemon Center though.

The timings are not quite right on the chapters, and Mewtwo's is missing. Also some of the timestamps are like: "VENUSAUR (880)" when I think should be "$80"? :)
