Sir I have a real problem with my wardrobe, I'm studying in college (pre-med) and I want to look professional and tactful with my appearance. When talking about a white shirt the weave is as important as the actual length of the shirt with respect to versatility. With your arms at your sides, if the untucked shirt comes past your wrists (with maybe an inch to spare) then it is not meant to be worn untucked. Also if shirt tails are pretty "deep" (the arch that is on the side of the shirt that separates the front shirt tails for the rear shirt tail) than it is not meant to be untucked. All in all, shirts that are meant to be untucked can be diverse because there is the flexibility of wearing them tucked in with no one noticing, while still looking sharp.

I wore black and dark gray denims with traditional white Oxford shirts and Tweed jackets as casual dress for years, with several pairs of cowboy boots: nubuck, dress black and cordovan brown. I was accused of "dressing up too much" by my boss. ??? I flat out told him off one day, to quit shopping for polyester crap and dress like a man. No, it didn't go well, but I hired on some where else with better pay and Bennie's. Just goes to show how much you can do with a few well made pieces if you want to work with it! I would also add a "walking shoe" akin to the ones that New Balance manufactures in black leather that I've been able to mix well (and get shined) in both dress and business casual (work) situations, especially if you find the dress shoes unworkable for your feet or mobility (issues or demands).

I'd say some more or less light weather-proof jacket with lining is pretty versatile. Something like Barbour Ashby (with lining), or Beaufort (a bit longer than Ashby, and better because of that). Beaufort looks really perfect in proportions. Unfortunately, I don't have any of those, yet. But I do wear something similar and cheaper all the time, to do chores and whatever. A Frahm jacket could be a good fit. Or something from Private White. In America I'd probably look at Flint & Tinder lined Hudson jacket. It is a bit too rugged/rustic, American style, but seems great to me.

Antonio, I get the straight collar is a dress shirt but many of the executives and politicians I saw in DC when I was stationed there wore a button-down with a suit and tie. Maybe not as formal but I think it has become a"dress shirt" as well. When layering a sweater under a sports jacket is it normal and desirable to have the sleeves of the sweater show beyond the sleeve of the jacket like a shirt cuff normally would? If not, do you have any solutions to fix the problem?

Hey David - Sweaters under sports or suit jackets are tricky. You want the sweater cuff to either extend beyond the jacket cuff but fall short of the shirt cuff (ideal) or else be hidden entirely by the jacket so that only the shirt cuff is visible (acceptable). www.realmenrealstyle.com/jeans-sweater-matching/

Aviator sunglasses -- I recommend the aviator's from Randolph Engineering, which is the only metal eyeglass frame maker in the US, and supplies the US military and NASA. I have these with grey lenses and gunmetal grey frames, and the blade temples, which are easier to put on and take off when wearing a hat, but are still secure.
