I think Raycevick best summed up the Blackbox NFS handling. To paraphrase: "Most arcade racers make handling loose and slidey. Need for Speed (Blackbox Era) instead goes the opposite direction and makes the cars even grippy-er than they normally would".

First they gave control to the player. Then they made the game hard according to that. Other games first made the game hard with slidey controls, then made the rest. Result: Both games looks hard. But one of them is better. :)

Black box makes the car feels like a controllable brick which makes it look like it has a magnet underneath the car unto the ground, fortunately it works.

Heat’s upgrade system was great. Having experiment to find the tire that feels right to you is really fun.

Boy I wish I'm wrong with this one... But my predictions about physics based on trailers vs actual physics are 3:0 (2015, payback, heat)

Remember my first night in heat. Played two races and got chased by the cops. Reached heat level 4 (i think, not too sure) in a stock 240 sx and basically any progress i had done was wiped away. Early game is heat up until 50% of story is slow punishing and boring. After that the game is genuinely good tho.

You know one thing I wished that could be re-implemented by mods so you can have a more NFS Mostwanted like experience with the cops? Re-implement the weight setting of the Runner class from NFS Payback. That allowed you to fight the cops and send them flying just like the old games if you set the weight to the heaviest option. I feel that + this handling mod would've made the Heat experience a whole lot better imo.

Black Box Handling >>>>>>> Criterion/Ghost/whatever handling came after them. While I enjoyed MW, Pro Street is my favorite one (followed very close by The Run) and in these games the handling feels very nice.

Yep ProStreet was awesome, but Most Wanted hit a sweet spot in my mind especially with the extra mode of speedbreaker giving you just that little bit more grip. Just the quintessential arcade racing handling in my mind.

Ghost games are usually bad with their handling.But Hot Pursuit 2010 by criterion had good handling and drift physics.I have a feeling that when criterion lost some devs from their studio then their games slowly started to become shtty.

Only downside is my car sometime stop to almost 0 km/h on bushes, and small obiects. But lighting on cutscenes is working properly for me. 3.4.1 BTW.

@@Filip.777 I've played a lot of racing games (specially Fh1 and Fh2) but he is right. Heat's handling isn't even that bad. I can understand it by 2015 or Payback. But Heat? I play this game and I literally have no issues with it (unlike the already 2 mentioned games) Sorry, but if you really think the game is "unplayable", then the problem is you.

The cars understeer like a bus if you try to drive normally. The game expects you to drift round corners like Ridge Racer or OutRun.

I played 40hours of Heat, finished the main story, almost all the events... and then... my interest for the game complete vanished... I don't know what it's, I imagine it's that the game offers way to much costumization? Or I don't know... ~I'm talking more about performance... visual wise I think it's one of the best things ever, because you can put as much decals and stickers you want, so you can create your own art...

Black Box era was the best NFS ERA all the games from Ghost Games except heat were not good Heat was a step in the right direction but was scraped for unknown reason. Unite Mod for heat has brought back MW 2005 handling. Cars are grippier and have more control unlike the original in which cars used to slide every where

@@minaco2772 Heat is not what nostalgic people like you say "step in the right direction". it is the peak of NFS franchise Mw 2005 handling is ass handling for the new games they only work on the old games and that's good for these old games. Having a handling model from 1 game (ug1) to the rest of the series is boring image if the series from 2003 to 2019 have the same fucking handling wtf Criterion came with HP reboot and did great job rebooting the handling of the series and Ghost improved massively over them with Heat just say that you are bad at modifying your engine parts and cars because all my cars are grippy and don't slide "everywhere"

From NFS UNdercover the franchise went down hill. by Payback the franchise was at the worst stage heat fixed this bringing back the feel of the old games Heat did well trying to capture the glorious feeling of these beloved games but it still needs work. and surely as more unite updates keep coming it will get better
