The Krabby Patties are made of crab meat and Plankton's chum is made of ground up fish (I looked up what chum is) so the rivalry between Krabs and Plankton is just two cannibals trying to convert a whole town into cannibals as well and Mr.Krabs is winning. The show references this in the stop motion Halloween special when Plankton yells out that the Krabby Patties are people patties.
