Come join us for a Mostar Food Review as we head back to Šadrvan, one of our two favorite restaurants in the city (the other being Tima-Irma), to eat a number of our favorite Bosnian dishes for our final meal In Bosnia and Herzegovina. After wandering around and considering trying a different restaurant in Mostar we're really glad we came back here.
The following is a list of the Bosnian dishes we had for our meal:
1) Blatina dry red wine with aromas of spice, coffee and chocolate
2) Schnitzel Šadrvanska Story - steak with turkey and ham, smoked cheese, breaded in a French manner with mushroom sauce, white wine and cream.
3) Dolma stuffed cabbage and peppers with minced meat and other ingredients inside
4) Sarma grape leaves with minced meat and other ingredients inside
5) Tufahije (tufahija) is a Bosnian dessert featuring stewed apples, walnuts, glazed syrup and topped with whipping cream
6) Baklava dessert with rich layers filled with chopped nuts, syrup and honey

Mostar Food Review - Eating Bosnian Dishes at Šadrvan restaurant in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina Travel Video Transcript:
We have come back to our favorite restaurant in all of Mostar. We're at Šadrvan. What is this? Like our third, fourth time eating here in a matter of days? It is our third time.
So we've ordered two glasses of red wine. We are having Blatina and we tried this for the first time and it is a nice full body red, dry like just wonderful flavor and aftertaste.
We are starting off with Schnitzel Šadrvanska Story. And what is in it? It has got so much in it that I'm going to read it off of the menu. Haha. I don't want to mess up.
So guys it is steak with turkey and ham, smoked cheese, breaded in a French manner with mushroom sauce, white wine and cream. Oh my. Now if that sounds decadent.
Okay so for my dish I got dolma and I feel like I've probably already shown this before because I've been eating a lot of it almost on a daily basis. We haven't shown it here though. And it does look different. I know we showed one dolma when we filmed here but they have two different kinds. This one is different. This one is dolma baked in cream. So you've got like the little peppers stuffed with rice, stuffed with minced meat. You've got some chopped carrots. It is really good and it comes with cream in the middle.
It is definitely good. It has got I mean the leaf wrapper. It is completely different texture from this but if I had to pick between the two I would go for this one. The pepper.
Well well it is time for dessert. For mine I also ordered a dessert I had on my first night here. I believe it is pronounced tufahija (tufahije). It is a poached apple that I think has been cooked in like sugary water and then the apple is stuffed with nuts. Then it has whipped cream on top.
Sam over here got baklava. Compared to normal baklava in other places they are a bit more generous with the nuts. It is also a bit thicker than normal making it more delicious.
So time to talk about the bill. It came to 46 in local currency which was 27 US dollars or 23 Euros. We ordered five food items. Basically the two appetizers and then the big meat dish and then two desserts and two glasses of wine. Excellent value and the food was fantastic. Just a wonderful way for us to finish off our time here in Mostar. Bye.

How funny , that's the way I have described my wife's eating habit , the Energiser Bunny eater . When I described to my wife what you were saying about Audrey's eating she jumped up to her defense , "let the poor girl eat !" . Love what you do and you have made Mostar a must for us within a year or two ... thank you so much x

We are back from our Central European trip, trying to think of "the best dish" ? One of the best were "Swabian Pockets" rather large ravioli-like pasta stuffed w/ pork and spinach, served over Bavarian sauerkraut !! So good !! Also our hockey game in Prague was super fun ! The fans really get into the game,, standing for most of it !! Already planning for "the trip" next year ! HAPPY NEW YEARS and safe travels !!

Wow, Bravo! Love the way you guys are uninhibited in the way you share your meal experiences. You just jump in and enjoy, which is what the celebration of food is all about. And you really tell it like it is. If we wind up in Mostar, we'll try your favorite restaurant. It's great too that you mention the prices - I've paid more for less in other places. It's always a treat when you get a great meal and are surprised at the end what value you got out of it. Thanks much for sharing.

Since you like Balkan food, you can have it in GTA. There is a nice small restaurant on McAdam Rd, behind Highland Farms supermarket in Mississauga. It's name is McAdam Place. Granted, i'm biased, cause i'm from Balkans, but food is excellent, big portions, and low prices. For example, mixed grill plater (meshano meso) for 2 is arond 25 CAD. And no, this is not an ad, just that me and my co-workers love going there ....

If you are looking for exotic and weird dishes (warms, frogs, etc) you may want to visit the amazonic region. If you're looking for the BEST Ecuadorian food (seafood included) you should visit the province of Manabí in the coast (sorry for my totally biased suggestion but ask any ecuadorian and they will say the same). Some of the dishes that I highly recommend are The "Tonga", the "Murico al vapor", the "Seco de gallina criolla en horno de leña"(the more rustic the place looks the more delicious it gets!). Some of the most famous appetizers are the "corviche"(Ask for fried or baked. I personally prefer fried due to its crispness), "Empanadas de verde", "bollo de pescado" and "panes de yuca/almidon". If you like soups, I highly recommend the "viche de mariscos", the ecuadorian "ceviche" and the "encebollado"(this one is most known for killing hangovers! And people mostly enjoy it as a breakfast dish). Your videos are so cool, my favourite one is the one you filmed in Toronto. Every time I watch it, it brings me memories of the time I studied there :) Keep going with your videos, you guys rock!:)

Michio Kushi , father of Macrobiotics says we need to chew our food 40x before swallowing. Chewing is an important part of the digestion process. At least chew it enough to turn it to puree before swallowing. Sam's dish reminds me of the late 1960s and early 70s when Julia Child introduced Americans to French cooking. That was when wine/butter/cream sauces were all the rage in gourmet cooking. Maybe it is the camera but it looks like you guys are taking GIGANTIC sized bites. (It isn't a race.) If you take smaller bites and savor the flavor, you won't have to chew as much and you can talk more easily and explain what you are eating instead of forcing it down your throats before you should ..
@samuelandaudrey

That is cool to hear! Same or different name in Turkey?
@hasmetd
@hasmetd 6 жыл бұрын
First one @5:33 is called as '' Dolma '' and second one @6:59 is called as '' Sarma '' .By the way, in almost all Turkic countries at central Asia , you can find '' Dolma '' and its versions in their cuisine.

Aboleo80...my mistake then,i thought Dolmas were stuffed vine leaves??
@Aboleo80
@Aboleo80 6 жыл бұрын
Nada Batori We call stuffed vine leaves "japrak". In Turkey it would be called yaprak dolma since Turks call any stuffed veggie "dolma" but in Hercegovina we use dolma just for stuffed pepers, Sarma for cabage or collard greens stuffed leaves.

Those two are like in the top 5 must have dishes along sarma, dolma and other ones. I like you guys very much. Safe travels ✌

Mostar is in Herzegovina,Herzegovians and Bosnians were splitted from Croatia,when Yugoslav Communists separated Herzegovina and Bosnia from Croatia in 1945,just like Yugoslavs separated from Croatia Dalmatia and Istria in 1920 with Rappall agreement,basicaly they sold Croatian territory,which brought persecution and killings of Croats(Dalmatians,Istrians) under fascist rule,just like it brought persecution and killing of Croats(Herzegovians,Bosnians) by Communists! *God bless!* *Blessed is Lord Jesus Christ!*
