MOT Day For This Immaculate K11 Micra - Never A Fail Or An Advisory ... Until Now?
Around a year ago I took ownership of this lovely K11 Nissan Micra
Same owner since 2003 - covering only 23,000 miles from new.
It really is a time warp and a testament to its former owner, Greta.
Dad however has never seen this car owing to it being tucked away safely in the Coupland collection and never needing any TLC from Dad. It's MOT time for this car soon and so I've finally had to bring it to Dad for a Pre MOT check up - What will Dad think to this little Timewarp car?
In this video I take it for the MOT test - fingers crossed!

I was speaking to an Uber driver from Afghanistan he has a 1997 Nissan Micra 1 litre in Black and said it had done 265 thousand miles , I thought he was joking with me but he showed me the milometer and it was displaying that mileage it looked totally battered and he explained he had bought this car when the good times were in Afghanistan when the US drove the Taliban out around 2003 and he had this car since and imported it to the UK when he left Afghanistan , he left a few months before the Taliban came back to power as everyone in his country could sense what was happening , very interesting story for sure.

I would use Jenolite waxoil spray. It comes in aerosol cans, it’s completely clear, and it doesn’t stink up the place like lanoguard

What a little gem. I think its worth doing some prep and paint work on the surface corrosion before you rustproof it just to make it look nice. Personally i dont have a preference between Lanoguard and the Bilt Hamber clear. Both are excellent.

An enjoyable watch, but never in doubt that it would pass with no advisories. I am really enjoying the Micra content, and it was great to see the attention your Dad was paying it and his little tricks of the trade to keep it in tip top condition. I have never owned a K11 but came very close to it and test drove three! Two S versions (one in black, which seemed a very rare Micra colour and I thought really suited it). The one I really fell for was a run-out 52 plate Activ version in a minty green metallic from a Nissan dealer just outside Wisbech. It would have been 2004 and K11 Micras were literally everywhere and a really affordable, bullet-proof used option. The Activ version I test drove only had about 5000 miles on the clock and felt like a new car. I seem to remember it being so easy to drive, and while not fast, could more than hold its own when I took it out on the dual carriageway. Being a run-out special edition it was very well equipped, complete with factory sunroof. I eventually plumped for a Daihatsu Charade, which was newer, but actually gave me a few issues. Looking back I think that Activ had my name on it! Interestingly, when I was at university, I spent some time renting a room in a very large house owned by the Catholic Church. There was an order of nuns who also lived there and yes, you guessed it, the Micra K11 was their car of choice! One of the Sisters had a very nice, very late 03 plate 'Tempest' in techno grey. Super little cars. It's regrettable that Nissan lost their way with every subsequent version. I look forward to more Micra content. Thanks again!

Thin coating of Waxoyl on the underside but first I would take any rust off the treat and paint as long as all the rust is gone. Lovely car so well worth taking care of,My K10 had 176k when I part exed it.

Intit luvleh! I hope your dad looks at your mum the way he looked at this Micra! There was never going to be huge jeopardy, given the love you and your dad have given it, but I have known cars blow a bulb between home and the testing station, and my local one was only 1/4 of a mile away! I learned to drive in one of these 1.0 16v-ers (ex- police senior instructor and ex- area examiner...), so many fond memories, and it had a decent turn of speed if you hoofed it. Given the low amount of running it has done, I wonder if the cat may be a bit clogged and possibly the inlets gunked up a bit.

I think your dad has bonded with this car, 🤣I'd get some bilt hamber dynax s.50 in the the back of the sills asap just for now as i noticed a tiny bit of rust just coming on the outside of the rear of sills where they go. There's also Dinatrol but can't vouch for it myself. good luck.

What a lovely example. 😍 My last car was a Nissan Almera N16 diesel and that failed one of it's MOT on a dodgy crossmember.

Jon you should do what Hubnut did take it to Crown Rust Proofing they literally will inject the Wax oil into the door frame , into the sills etc for only £350 and it lasts for many years

I use lanoguard on my series 3 landrover and honestly amazed how well it works and how quick it is to apply.

Likewise with the lanoguard on my JDM Steppy, easiest application of rust protector I have done, and works really well, it also doesnt just cover possible future problems in gunk, so you can keep an eye oon things,just smells of a sheep farm for a little while.If you use a normal wax in the structures cavities , and lanoguard over everything external I think you would have the best of both worlds

Micro par excellence👌. Of course it was going to pass, it's like a 2 year old car and it has had the benefit of a good check over at Coupland's motor works. Lovely car, underbody needs a bit of tlc for sure, maybe be Lanoguard?

In N.S.W Australia we have yearly registration inspections for light vehicles over 5 years old and there are no exemptions all vehicle's registered vehicles doesn't matter of how old it is they still need an inspection and there are no advisories but the bid advantage is rust isn't a real issue in Australia old British Japanese vehicle's do say 40 and 50 year old cars do rust and the money l have spent on body filler on my older Japanese and British vehicle's which fortunately don't own but my 1997 Toyota Hilux needs the yearly inspection and it only failed twice on the exhaust system which l had replaced and with two different examiners and the examiner actually drives your vehicle and does the brake test on the test it doesn't go on a lift but my Hilux is exposed and no rust issues only surface rust and maybe no rust issues because almost half of it is aluminium because of the tray l have been doing rego inspections for years and l have failed for many things including the number plate light but that was able to be fixed and one time tge seat belt was warn on the drivers side so l just swapped it for the passenger side

@@JonCoupland With salted roads any vehicle rusts l think it would be difficult to avoid it infact there is a British you tuber who imported an AU Ford Fairmont from New Zealand and he took measures to rust proof it but they were made in Australia but they do rust in some spots and in N.S.W we have a form of MOT and if your vehicle has bad rust even in the body it's a fail it will be interesting when certain Chinese built vehicles they probably fail because of rust because of there appalling build quality

You'd definitely have got advisories on the tyres here in ripoff Ireland. It's a private company doing the testing and they've got 40-50 % cars going in require retests at your expense 🙄 There's no way cars are that bad here but the monopoly on testing means we get screwed either way 🙄👍🇮🇪

If it is anything like England (and I appreciate it probably won't be) then local councils all have their own MOT stations. That's all they do. No repairs, they are done externally. Not many people know about them, but anyone can book their own vehicle in. They have absolutely no interest in whether it passes or fails, they just do it by the book.
