It is a HEAVY beast sitting/slow speeds, but damn, once you get that sucker moving? *SA-WEET!* Miss mine something fierce, but got sick and tired of so many FOOLS on the road trying to smear me across the asphalt. Wonderful video!

Great bikes, I own two. The brakes work great with some cleaning and line upgrades, but check the rear master very closely. I've worked on and seen quite a few of these now and they all had bad rear master cylinders, it's in a bad spot that gets a lot of heat and doesn't get maintained. I replaced both rear MC's with ones from a newer Valkyrie, just had to weld up a bracket to make it work. The original MC's are not worth rebuilding. Front suspension was fixed with cartridge emulators and springs.
@billgorson7967 Жыл бұрын
Replying to myself here, but some years (83 iirc) have linked brakes, so if that rear mc is failing the brakes will feel very soft and weak. Delinking them isn't difficult.

your videos are a lot of fun - nice streets, subjects, commentary. maybe tow the Rebel as a spare.

I have an 83 GL1100 going to use as an everyday rider through cooler months in SE Indiana it's a standard with a Vetter Fairing I Installed previous owner had restored and gone through it, pretty nice riding machine has timber road newer tires on it also title states 25,000 miles actual. Hmmm well thanks for sharing.

They are incredible machines. You can't beat them for the money you pay in the used market.

Hey, generally it's recommended to use mineral oil instead of synthetic. It potentially can cause clutch slipping and gear shifting problems. I also own a GL1100, I agree they are a ton a fun to ride "spirited". Good call on the braided brakelines, works wonders with some fresh brakepads. Front and rear suspension is usually pretty slack if it's the original one. Progressive shocks and springs for the front are a worthwhile investment and you can completely get rid of the air pressure system. Besides that timing belts with it's rollers and springs are very important. Otherwise they are pretty damn sturdy and yours seems to be in great condition!

Going to put regular oil in there. The bike isn’t shifting as smooth. The progressive springs are on my list. The air shocks on mine are holding air but something is off. Next week I’ll start pulling it apart and seeing what I can do. I was surprised the interstate weights 679lbs.
@assikopp123 Жыл бұрын
@@motardsquid You can also go for a little thicker oil. 20W50 instead of 10W40. Made a difference for me in terms of noise and smoothness. Only downside is that the temperature range isn't great for winters. I believe it can be used above 0 degrees celsius (32 Fahrenheit). But the transmission in general is where you feel the age of the bike imo. It is a bit on the slower side.

Such a swee ride. I have the exact same year bike but mine is the dark paint scheme. I am thinking of putting on the progressive rear suspension in place of the air ride.

air shocks will leak, replace front and rear with progressive spring shocks made for the wing.

I have an 83 that requires a lot of throttle and clutch feathering to take off. Does yours? I’m hoping seafoam fixes it
@motardsquid Жыл бұрын
not really. It's very smooth. You might want to look at the carbs, the bike should be very easy to pull from a stop.
@sacrismortem7011 ай бұрын
Any update on your situation? Dod seafoam help? I have a similar situation on my 83' GL1100. Lots of feathering the clutch needed in order for it not to make a racket after letting out the clutch
@joreldecipulo283510 ай бұрын
@@sacrismortem70 i've also got the same thing on my 81' 1100, i still need to feather the clutch and throttle up when going from stop or else it'll thump a lot more than i'm comfortable with

I’m just getting back to this bike. I have found the front right cylinder does not get as hot as others at idle. Runs well with throttle. I’m assuming idle circuit is semi clogged
