Got my used 2006 DL650 in 2015. It had 22,000 mi. on it. I've got 54,000 now and only had one parts failure issue (high pressure hose on fuel injection developed a hole). And that's the only problem I've had. I do oil changes chain lubrication and adjustments myself and only take it to the dealer for chain replacement. A new chain was put on it right before I bought it and finally had to put a new chain and sprockets at 44,500. I'd say that's pretty good life for the final drive. I've always used the Metzeler Tourance Next tires and get very good life from them. I've used the Rotella T-5 15w40 motor oil for at least 30,000 miles and have been happy with it. This a sturdy, no frills, reliable machine. Love it ! p.s. never had an issue with fork seals.

Of my 205k, never replaced fork seals. Get the fork brace for the dl650. Helps amazingly. I didn’t think it would, but it increases stability of bike big time! Cheers

Where did you buy the fork brace from?

After 110000 km, only problems were: 2 X 60 W bulbs are feed by one single wire . If the contacts in the main connector are corroded, they heat up and lights go out or clock resets . I made a bypass in the wiring and problem is gone . Same for the safety contacts in clutch handle and starter button. Very annoying if you can't leave a ferry somewhere in Norway . steering bearings are changed at 85000 km. sparkplugs once at 60000 km . No visible wear. Valve clearance . Never done in 110000km.

Stromtroopers.com is a great place to find common problems, the lights and the clutch sensor are well known issues and easily fixed. Be safe everyone

Tomorrow I'm picking up a 2008 with 23k miles, it has a lot of stuff added, it's the Yellow color, am very excited as I have owned 4 KRL's, so something different. Thanks for the Vid, helps.

I like those yellow ones! I did try to find one of those but they are rare.

I've been researching the VStrom, plan to get one, and the number of both owners and Suzuki mechanics that say they last 200,000 miles with basically no maintenance, I'm going to say "Yes" to the title before I start watching.
@motardsquid5 жыл бұрын
Yeah they are extremely reliable. No issues with mine other than wear of tires and chains etc. It's an amazing bike, but the best thing is really that vtwin engine. Makes me like vtwins more and more everytime i ride. it.

Why do you have a car tyre on the back? that seems ridiculous

So watched the video 8 minutes of my life I’ll never get back and STILL WAITING TO FIND OUT IF IT WILL LAST 50K MILES AND WHAT PROBLEMS YOU WILL HAVE!!! Maybe change the heading to I like hatch back Prius’ and dislike Chinese scooters - that would be more accurate
@lyubengeorgiev17513 жыл бұрын
Can you make side by side comparison with the Africa Twin that you own. I have AT 650 which is even lighter than your 1995 RD07 and it is interesting for me how they defer with the DL 650. Thanks!

Enjoyed your video! I'm looking at getting one soon, just don't know the bike well. Where are you riding around? What area?
@motardsquid3 жыл бұрын
Awesome bike. I dont have it anymore. But if you watch the newer videos when im riding my super tenere i often talk of the dl650 as being one of the best bikes i have had. It's better in many ways. This is in Maryland.

Thank you. I have a simple inquiry during the previous period. Did you change something in the machine?
@motardsquid5 жыл бұрын
im at 65k now, and nothing yet. Just changed the sprockets recently. Nothing has broken.

Why a car tire? Your ruining the bike
@motardsquid4 жыл бұрын
How is it being ruined?
@randyburns38424 жыл бұрын
I see a lot more guys with these car tires on their back they say it’s working very well and they can get 35+ thousand kilometres for a tire wear
@thefungusshow25353 жыл бұрын
Doesn't seem safe to use a car tire. A car tire was not meant to lean in turns. Your contact patch will be very small in the turn as the tire is on its shoulder.
@Jimmy_Watt3 жыл бұрын
Quit video because I couldn't take you seriously after I realized you had a car tire on your light, middleweight 650. Its unsafe, and reduces the capability of the bike from new by a lot, all over being cheap.
