Make sure you learn about the neuroscience of trauma, attachment theory, and so on. Learn the tools of emotional regulation, and how to teach them. Those are the tools most needed for healing for those kids. Their sympathetic nervous systems are out of control and leading the show. They often feel they need to fight/flee/fawn/freeze. To learn to get that calmed and get the prefrontal cortex online and make wise choices is key. To be validated, space held, and acceptance, is a must. I know. I was given up at 2 years, in 5 foster homes over a year and then adopted. My adoptive parents meant well, but the authoritarian, low emotional intelligence, conflict avoidance, etc environment was not helpful for healing trauma. I often felt I had to earn love & was often struggling with unseen anxiety. Didn't even know I had it, it was my "normal" from as early as I've ever known. I'm finally healing in my 40's and it's been very painful at times. The process to be adopted, for a child, includes extreme attachment injuries. Therefore their attachment system is often very wounded. They want love, yet also deeply fear it. It takes patience, awareness, humility, grace, compassion, to dive into the world to take care of such a wounded child.

@Loreal saying that teens could be a pain in the a... Is just indirectly saying they are. There's a lot of sh to consider here when it comes to teenagers being a "pain in the a..." It's not like teens are naturally naive and dull. The original commentator is uneducated and her philosophy on teen behavior or raising teens is way off the rails to say that. What if I said "pets could be so annoying" what kind of judgemental phrase is that? Poor observation and conclusion there. The owner/parents are also to consider when it comes to being parents.

God bless you & just know that there are so many of us that did not have a birth family that loved them nor adoptive parents. I can't even imagine what my life would have been with loving, supportive family. Hang in there.

I'm adopted and I'm so lucky that I was so young when I was. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in my teens and still not adopted. This mom is amazing and so selfless! Her boys are incredible and they now have the love and family they deserve! 💜

Right?! There have been quite some few post which confirmed how beautiful they are off camera, infact one said she is so blessed to be living in the same neighborhood as them that they are awesome! Also one said he went to thesame school with the kids and they are super great guys, super intelligent and he didn't know they were adopted. These are beautiful testimony, great job Susan did with her sons.

I was adopted myself aged 7 after my mother killed when she was 23. My parents brought my brother and sister back to me after years of separation in Forster care. 25 years later, one is a soldier, one is a Nurse and the other is a Midwife. Things we were never meant to be. Three lives saved.

I am a Person who grew up with abusive Parents. They abandoned me right before my teen years so i came into an Orphanage. Because of my Age and the things ive been through noone wanted to adopt me , or even look into my way. And as soon as i hit 18 years i got kicked out to survive on my own. Without Education, personal/emotional development and noone by my side i`m not sure if i will even survive the coming weeks... but I have to . Even if it hurts It makes me happy that there are still some (few) good people on this world and I hope to be able to meet someone like this one day. I know exactly that there are many with a past like mine out there. Thats why i pray to god in hope that noone else has to go through this hell anymore

I think adoption is one of the most beautiful things in humanity, a person opening their family to a child in need, giving them a chance when the whole world seems against them, it really does get me choked up.

0:23 - you can just see the sadness in that young boy's face. Just breaks my heart. I am so happy for all four of them, but of course the three boys more so. This woman selflessly saved their life.
