I live with my father. Some days we have to get up early to take him to medical appointments because we live over an hour or two away from the VA clinic he goes to. Ever since mom passed away I've been in charge of cooking, cleaning and taking care of him. Every time he has me get up early to get him ready for an appointment he made for himself I tell him, "You're lucky I love you, old man." Lol Taking care of a disabled parent isn't always easy, and it's definitely no picnic, but I love that SoB.

gonna have to disagree with the cheating girlfriend story in regards to him maybe going to see her to make sure she isn't gonna do anything dumb. She caused this, she can deal with it on her own and with her friends. He owes her absolutely nothing, even less than what he owes a random stranger, because she legit betrayed him and cheated on him, making her a net-negative in his life. Maybe she pulls through and gets better, maybe she doesn't. Not his issue or problem. Going into contact again is just a bad move as that will send the message to her that she still has a chance.

This comment is about starting number two and just stories in general like it I feel like tipping culture has gotten a little ridiculous. Tippin used to be about like a thank you to good servers. But nowadays it feels like it’s so forced and I feel like the original poster and story number two was a little ridiculous and just all the stories you hear on this channel about tipping in general where people are getting mad about it again tipping used to be optional. Story #4: OP is not the jerk. It sounds to me like the ex-gf is used to never being held accountable/facing consequences for her actions, possibly even by her own parents, and she's only having a mental breakdown because OP is giving her that tough love she needs. The fact that she would try and go out of her way to cheat, then lie about it, then say it didn't mean anything just shows how much growing up she needs to do. She sounds more sorry that she got caught cheating as opposed to being sorry that she cheated. If I were the OP, I would probably give her closure and tell her "Look, you clearly aren't ready for a serious relationship, and maybe therapy will do you good to help you figure out what you want in life. But the fact that, apparently without much hesitation on your part, you decided it was okay to make out with another guy while we were dating and then tried to lie to me about it when you got caught, which demonstrates to me that you haven't yet reached the level of maturity I am seeking from my ideal life partner. There are some egregious patterns of behavior that you simply cannot hand-wave away and pretend never happened, and this is one of those things. I'm afraid the consequences, regarding our relationship being over as a result of this behavior, will have to be permanent for you to receive that message. I wish you the best in your therapy and your life, but I've already consciously made the decision to move on in my life without you."

Story 1: at bare minimum the OP is putting a heavy burden on their child given social stigma. Cry about how unfair it is all you want but reality is still reality. That's a very lax view if cheating. There's many ways someone can cheat. I think dancing sexually with someone outside your partner/s or kissing on the mouth are both cheating and I think that's the majority opinion. I also believe that having deep romantic feelings for anyone outside your partner/s and acting on them, trying to bring it to a situation where they could be realized, etc, is also a form of cheating.

Story 1: First of all, the (grand)mother is absolutely insane, she doesn't have a leg to stand on regarding the custody of her grandchild. Lawyers would love this woman. As for OP, I respect that they're planning on going to therapy with their kid to get them ready for the transition, but I'm gonna be blunt here, a parent transitioning is gonna be an extremely shitty experience for the kid no matter how old they are or how much therapy they had. That's something they should take into consideration. On top of that, I don't think transitioning is ever a good idea, I believe it's something people with self-esteem and self-love issues do to try to 'fix' themselves. If I were OP, before deciding on the transition, I would maybe talk with a therapist myself. Story 2: American tipping culture is stupid and I'm sorry but in my eyes you're entitled for expecting a tip, no matter the circumstances. People bring up 'Ooh but the servers are being underpaid and 40 dollars would mean the world to them'. I know that, but in that case the employer should pay his employees more instead of the restaurant guilt tripping customers into paying extra. That 40 dollars has to come from somewhere, do you really think anyone who occasionally eats out can afford to give that away? Story 3: It's honestly a bit crazy that the girlfriend is relying on her boyfriend to get up super early to drive her to work. But that aside, it sounds like the girlfriend may have been startled by OPs revelation and is now pushing him away out of fear that he will resent her if she continues to rely on him. So hopefully they can have a good conversation about this and everything will work out. Story 4: I think OP should clean his hands of all this and forget his ex-girlfriend. The fact that she's in a bad place mentally is not his responsibility. You can't help every single stranger with issues, and I don't see why this should be any different. Story 5: While it is true that the boyfriend should be able to spend his money however he likes, if you're in a situation where you and your partner are financially dependent on each other, you'd better be careful with your spendings. If you're not, then yeah, you should share these kind of details with each other.

I feel like I'm in a gray area for the first story. The one I feel bad for is the child. Growing up with a hateful grandmother and being prepped for extensive therapy so you'll cope with your mother transitioning into a man. Not to mention that there's no mention of a dad being involved.
