The only thing she actually noted about liking the first dress was the silhouette. They could have shown her one of the hundreds that are fish tail with a poofy bottom so that she had both aspects. I'm just gonna assume there weren't any in her price rance... because I think the prom dress thing is going to happen again.

For my daughter's highschool prom dress I let her pick out what she wanted, but she did try on one I had picked out.....I can still see her standing in my pick, but all photos are of her pick. Her being happy was most important. It was HER prom.

I do not think she is domineering at all. She said what she thinks is best and her daughter agreed. She did not agree against her will as she also became very emosional when she saw herself with her veil on. There is a difference between a mother that is domineering and somebody that knows the other person well enough to know she is better than she gives herself credit for. I think a parent's main mission is to guide a child, this mother does it correctly.

Even the both her sisters were preferring the princess dress and her youngest one even cried when she said that she wasn't feeling as a bride wearing it, her mind was set on fitted gown since she felt pretty in it, which she explained very emotionally. OK, we've had two days/three brides on SYTTD England and all three dresses were at/under budget!! So unlike David Emmanuel's shop policy if ask for the budget then ignore it! All the brides looked beautiful though.

@@sammylee5474 you would discuss that with the consultant. Shipping wouldn’t be a factor unless you order it online and not from a bridal shop. I don’t know about taxes in Europe. In Canada, taxes would not be included in the price on the tag. So your dress budget would have to factor that in. If you can’t spend more than $1000 and there are taxes on the dresses then you would tell your consultant a lower price to make up for that. Alterations depend on the shop. Prices vary. Again you would factor that in. Your $1000 dress could end up costing $1500 or more after everything else.

I think we've got it all wrong when it comes to the role of the person paying for the dress. If you pay for the dress, that is a gift. It is not an agreement that carries the condition that you get to have a say in what the decision will be. To offer a gift this way is so controlling and it keeps the receiver, especially an adult daughter as in this case, in a subservient position when what is really hoped for is that this is now a functioning adult capable of making their own decisions.

I remember my mom wanted me to buy a prom dress I absolutely hated. I tried on one I absolutely loved but was more expensive. I think my dad had a hand in it, but they ended up buying for me the dress I loved. Mom and I also butted heads on my wedding dress. She wanted my dress to be lace. I didn’t. I ended up not buying the dress fabric for it while I was visiting her in California. I bought the fabric while I was visiting my dad and step mom in Nevada. I found a beautiful off white moire fabric for my wedding dress. Simple but timeless.

Oh, this mother is coming off so manipulative. She didn’t look comfortable in the first dress. She only changed her mind because mom was crying. But her initial reaction to the ball gown was her true feelings. Regardless, she’s beautiful!

Normally brides who cave to their Mum obviously don’t really love the dress. But she had really strong opinions of why she liked it so I really think she did choose the dress she wanted.

The dress her mother chose does look lovely on Rebecca and shows off her figure. But why would her mother be paying for her wedding dress? She's an adult with two children. She really should pay for her own dress. What the bridal shop staff don't say in these videos that the Veils add about £200 extra to the cost of the outfit. I don't know if the brides don't factor that in or they have an auxiliary budget for the veil, jewellery and shoes.

This is another prime example of a mother trying to live vicariously through her daughter by putting her in dresses the mother likes so she can imagine herself in them. So selfish. Let brides have their day!

I am sorry but the Mom is wrong. Wrong in her attitude to her Daughter. And wrong because the second dress looked better and that is what the bride wanted. Such a nice girl but absolutely got confused because of her unsupportive Mom. Here we go again with the Mom's choise for all important days of her Daughter. I am not happy how it ended.
