In the final update when OP said that her husband is closer to his father than his mother what I thought to myself was “it definitely makes sense that he would. Because with his mother showing the blatant favoritism towards his sister and either not giving him as much attention or constantly pushing him away it would make sense that he would be more attracted to the parent that actually showed that they cared about him”.

​@@ix7958Did you not watch the video? FIL and MIL got into an argument days before the dinner over him finding out about the scam. He says what was said above, but obviously paraphrased to make it less wordy. Then the MIL goes out of her way to do it again in front of everyone else. Thats what was being commented on. If you don't have that basic understanding of the English language, use whatever translation dictionary you prefer.

I grew up surrounded by addicts have Alcohol and Other Drugs. One thing I know without a shadow of a doubt you can spend as much money as you want to on rehab for someone you love but it won't do one bit of good if they don't want it themselves

Beyond the lying, the scamming, the petty drawing out of a divorce, what made me lose any sympathy for this MIL is how she refuses to even send her alcoholic daughter to rehab, and I know the reason why: people who are intoxicated are very easy to control, which is what the MIL wants for some messed up reason. If you really care about your own flesh and blood sliding into alcoholism, wouldn't the best option be to get the child rehabilitated and get back on their feet? Instead, the MIL keeps enabling the daughter's drinking habit, either cause she's too lazy to do anything about it, or cause she WANTS to control her daughter, never mind that such actions can drive her daughter to an early grave. I do really feel for the FIL, cause imagine having to see your beloved daughter drinking herself silly, and being powerless about cause your witch of a (STBX) wife thinks controlling her daughter is more important than her own health.

The mother in law is a complete manipulator. The fact they used Op and her husband as a cash grab just to give her daughter alcohol is downright ridiculous. If she hated her daughter being a jobless bum that does nothing but drink alcohol, why doesn’t she send her to rehab.

she didn't hate the daughter. the whole "jobless bum" is just part of her poor me routine so her family would feel bad for her and give her money. which clearly worked on a lot of the friends and family
