The BF is an AH and could be sanctioned as this is a huge conflict of interest for him. I would report him for harassment to the Bar.
@becauselifts99136 ай бұрын
I don't buy the story at all. The conflict of interest with them having recently been in a domestic relationship would get him sanctioned. Him speaking to her directly without her attorney present would get him sanctioned. Him speaking about his client's finances would get him disbarred. Complete BS.
@matthewhanf30336 ай бұрын
@@becauselifts9913 complete agreement, only clicked on the video to say something similar. It would be super easy to prove their relationship in court, and no judge would allow that obvious conflict of interest.
@user-ve4hy3dg5j6 ай бұрын
The story is not real because 1) the timeline is completely wrong. Lawsuits take months, not weeks. 2) $5,000 is not enough to cover the costs of a car, medical bills, future medical bills and court costs/lawyer fees. 3) if the poster didn’t bring up the fact the defendant’s attorney was her current boyfriend, she is an idiot. None of this makes any sense.

"Really good lawyer" Dude managed to pick the most obvious one sided case in the whole city. He is a dumb-ass, and I doubt any of his cases were won by his skills in court. OP did good in running this case against the drunk driver, because now it's on record and they can't pretend it never happened.

BF isn't as good a lawyer as he thinks he is. If he was, he'd know to contact plaintiff's counsel, rather than plaintiff herself.

If story 1 was real, when I tell you my next email would be to the court, the judge, the bar, and whoever it would concern... "Your honor, we would like to ask opposing council to recuse himself seeing as not only was he my client's boyfriend up until she filed this suit, but he has been harassing her through text message to drop the case and that if she did that he would welcome her back as a girlfriend, as well as showing up to her home trying to get back together with her." I can smell the sanctions from here. Bring it to the court's attention that the defendant had hired the plaintiff's boyfriend to represent him. The actual way I would make sure his law career was over after that, it would be the least I would do.

Story 1 is a major conflict of interest. It being civil not criminal doesn't matter. Family lawyers cannot take divorce cases if they know both parties involved, for example. (This is in the US, I have no clue the rules anywhere else.)
@purplepotato88496 ай бұрын
If he were from a family that isn't in Law and emphasizes Ethics I'd understand, but how is he literally surrounded by good people and chose to reject all of that? And to do this to his girlfriend (you know, someone you're supposed to love and care about) and drop his family for money? He's not going to be destitute not taking this one case for Chris. Real life is not a TV Series, I think ex-BF watched too many episodes of 'Suits' and thinks he's some big cool shark.

Like she mentioned, being her boyfriend is a clear conflict-of-interest because he personally knows the opposing party (the gf). @yaoiloverstudio5 ай бұрын
The first story reminds me of my own case. I was hit by a car while riding my bike back home. It was at night and my lights were on. The guy who hit me was with his friends. Afterwards that guy drove me home and convinced me not to call the police, he was young and just got his license. I went to the hospital with my mom and while my bike got demolished, the impact threw me off and I "only" ended up with bruises all over my body. He wasn't going very fast and said he just overlooked me, I wanted to settle it with the repairs of my bike but it was old and the repair worker told us that it wasn't worth it for the cost. It was a good brand however and I only bought it recently so I told him that I'd be fine to get a bike of equal value. He was from a rich family and instead of agreeing, he wanted to give me his old bike with a flat tire, basically his garbage he was too lazy to throw out himself. Ultimately we ended up in court because he refused to pay me the amount to get a bike of equal value again. All his friends lied for him, said I had no light on and hilariously enough even made contradictory statements to each other. Needlessly to say he lost. Goes to show that people who have more than enough money are the least willing to own up to their responsibilites once they make a mistake sometimes. He ended up loosing more money than I would've asked for tbh I wouldn't have taken him to court either if he just settled to pay me what I was owed.

I don't even know how there can be any discussion about this unless US accident laws are diffrent than european ones. If you hit a parked car you should be fully at fault drunk or not and will have to pay damages both material and medical (if properly reported it will include even long term problems). The only diffrence would be that if proven drunk they guy will have to pay for it as his insurance won't pay out in that case.

Story one, can never happen. It's a conflict of interest. No judge would let things proceed after finding that out. OP's boyfriend can't accept it. One letter to the bar would be all it takes. I think this story is bs or happened in some ass backwards country. So much misconduct what op is saying. It's a DUI and I can tell you this. You may not be able to get a prosecutor to prosecute someone. But there are other remedies. Crime victims don't have any rights to control whether a prosecution happens the government is always the plaintiff. A prosecutor can even file charges over a victim's objections. Federal law and some states have Crime Victims' Rights Acts, which do grant some rights. But note the particularly relevant exception in that law: The executive branch has the exclusive right to determine how the laws are executed. Neither the legislature nor the judicial branches can compel the executive to prosecute someone. With that said the following steps should be taken. Talk to the DA the DOJ if it's a federal crime, message elected representatives about the issue. Those fail make sure you have documentation of those you contacted and go to the media. If media refuses you. Final action you post to social media with receipts. You sue the individual and you put pressure wherever you can. Also, the parents are in law as well and they didn't write a letter to the bar or intervene. Because they damn well could have. Hell OP could have written a complaint to the bar or brought it up the judge.
