As someone who was very close with my father, he died on Christmas Eve when I was 19, I was in a state of shock. I felt numb. I thought something was wrong with me. A few months later all the emotions hit me at once and it was like I felt everything, unexpectedly. It was like I couldn’t stop crying. The mind does strange things to protect us. Just because she isn’t crying doesn’t mean she isn’t grieving.

I know exactly what you mean. I have done that every single time someone I love has died. When my grandmother died I didn’t cry until I saw her at the funeral. Everyone thought I was psychotic. I had the biggest mental breakdown of everyone though at the funeral. It’s called going into shock. It’s normal and I’ve come to learn some people just react like that. I feel so sorry for this lady and it makes me angry people are judging her because she’s not in tears.

I can’t imagine how quiet and empty her house feels right now. Moving around the rooms with her husband and sons things… their cologne, clothes nicknacks. The strength it must take for her to even get out of bed. How do you even wash the sheets and wash the smell of your husband off the sheets knowing it’ll never return? It’s unimaginable. My heart goes out to her.

This woman has probably cried for hours, days on end. Just because tears aren't rolling down her cheeks and she's been able to compose herself to give this interview, does not mean she isn't mourning ffs! Mourning traverses through different phases. I can't believe how judgemental people are. Imagine people critiscising how you handle grieving of a loved one? SMFH!

Our family lost 4 members in a car crash years ago and grief hit us all differently and at different times. There were times when I cried so hard at the most unexpected times, and other times when I felt like I should be crying but I wasn't. It was very confusing, and I felt like I was grieving each of them differently which was weird to me at first until it started making sense. There was also anger at the 18-wheeler driver who plowed into their car from behind. We can't judge whether someone is grieving just because we don't see them crying because grief and the reality of what has happened settles in at different times. There are many emotions going on all at the same time. You may not understand why you aren't crying at a particular moment but you'll find yourself trying to eat dinner and you end up crying too much to eat because, just for a moment, you realized that your loved one(s) really is/are gone and you won't ever see them again. Grief goes deeper than any of us can understand and the reality of what has happened takes a while to set-in as well. My prayers go out to this woman and the loved ones of all of the lost. 🙏
@donnaanderson2846

I am truly sorry for your loss! While many of us have lost loved ones, and even more than others, few have lost so many at once. Grief is a “weird” thing, and then, we all have our own personalities, that play a part in our grief. As someone who is VERY introspective, and who has had to bury two infants, people typically read me as cold, and detached from my emotions. They don’t see/acknowledge the work I put in, every day of my life, in valuing the moments I have with each person, and determining to actually live in the moment. Because I understand at a deep level, have frail, and fleeting life is, I don’t need the insulation of denial, when something tragic happens. This doesn’t mean that I don’t grieve, but that I do it in my own way. Like you, I’ve had moments, when the grief is blindsiding. I just go with it. It is however, to be suffering a loss, and having people close to you, judging you, because your process is different. I wish you the best!

Idk if it’s something she’d be ok with, but if ever someone experienced goes down there again, I hope they can break that record for him on his behalf and the record be set in his name. It’s not uncommon for a person to show one emotion with one family member, and an entirely different one, with another. Given it was his sister that initially stated that he was afraid, sounds like they had a typical sibling relationship. Of course, most young men, aren’t going to tell their mother that they’re afraid.

Having given her seat to her son, I sincerely hope she does not suffer some form of "survivor's depression" in addition to that normally felt by a parent that has lost a child. With all the concerns, warnings and problems experienced with Titan over the last couple of years that are now being reported, if there is any direct blame to be placed, it most likely rests on the shoulders of one man...and he died with her son in Titan.

There will be guilt for sure. That is unavoidable and will haunt her for the rest of her life. I have no doubt she had long debates with hubby about why he wanted to go and the risks involved and the thing that hurts is she could have stopped it or at least talk the son out of it.

It’s a free country. It’s called freedom of speech to be able to say out loud and state your own opinion as long as it’s not hate speech or something obscenely offensive and I didn’t see anything like that here. People are allowed to express themselves in a written format or spoken format. This ain’t China or Russia where your life would be in danger if you speak up though this platform is leaning towards autocracy, and too much censorship which is a sad thing as it’s not supposed to be like that in a truly democratic country. It’s against the constitution prevent people speaking out. You should be aware of that.

What made this horrific event even harder to bear was the insistent and insensitive conjectures by the media that “banging noises” were an indication of survivors and a signal of SOS from The Titan to the searchers. Hopes raised, and then the horror of wondering if the crew would suffer suffocation in the submersible if the rescue didn’t move quickly. A Navy rover found the debris field in the location it would have been during its descent, about 1600 feet from the Titanic hull. So why did the media fuel speculation about a “signal of life” when the Navy knew it was lost? News networks did a terrible thing to the families in prolonging hope where none would be had. Shameful.

They even said right before they lost communication they said they were descending to fast and had to release some kind of weight to try and come back up or slow down. They also said that they coastguard or whomever listens to the signals under water heard a loud boom at the time they lost contact. And it took them 8 hours to call in the coastguard? They knew all along the sub imploded. From multiple experts and evidence. They did all the for media attention because they saw how much attention it got. It’s all very strange. Grief is such an unpredictable beast. I've had it hit me like a wrecking ball out of nowhere at a funeral after being fine up until then. Another loss I just sobbed for days and felt completely numb and hollow for months. Another I cried every now and again but was normal otherwise. None of those reactions correlated in any way to how close I was to those people, or what they meant to me. Loss is almost incomprehensible to process, there is no runway for that plane, it just shoots off when and where it wants to for completely unpredictable reasons. I hope she has a good support system that can help her carry this grief. I feel for her so much, particularly knowing her son shouldn't have been in that vessel.

Im confused, I swear on the news they said he didn't want to go.....Now he wanted to go. OK. Denial it can be or somebody's just lying.

That’s what his aunt reported, but the mother is saying he was excited to go. Contradicting statements from different parties.

That was the aunt who said it. The mother seems to be believable as she was on the ship.

I thought the kid was worried and didn’t want to go on. Now he was excited? I can’t imagine what she’s going through. Losing her husband and son at the same time. It is odd though.
