When I do an outline consistency, it always seems to get “crusty” and I’m not sure why so I usually do a 1 consistency. Any ideas why my outline consistency does that?

thicker icing tends to dry a lot quicker. So if you are working with thicker icing you need to work a bit quicker, or thin it out just a bit or work section by section so it's not crusting over while you are trying to still smooth it out.
