Exactly! I've never been able to enjoy any other anime without playing it at double speed following my viewing of FMA and FMA:B. No other show has ever hooked me in like that. The closest were MHA, Tokyo Ghoul, and Madoka Magica, but I could barely get through those (Madoka Magica excluded from that statement). FMA was actually my first anime, FMA:B my second, so it's ruined almost every other long anime for me. The emotional depth is unmatched.

@ShaferHart5 жыл бұрын
I don't think FMAB anime is 10/10. Is the manga significantly different from the anime? The selling point of FMAB is that it's canon while the first anime wasn't (after the first half or so).

@@ShaferHart If FMAB isn't 10/10, what is?
@ShaferHart5 жыл бұрын
@@kyledubisz2695 FMAB is very shit actually. I was surprised the original story was that bad, maybe it was better laid out in the manga? The adaptation is shit and if the story in the manga is the same then I doubt it's much better. The first FMA was way more than action. FMAB started well but just went downhill after a while. I'm not surprise it gets so much hype though: par for the course for terrible overhyped anime in this day and age. Watch the first one if you haven't. The stories diverge radically after a while so it's not like you know where it's headed. Watch the animated movie too (that's the real ending for the first FMA).

Shafer Hart man this is proof that there are haters to literally everything. I get saying fmab is overrated and such but to say that such an enjoyable well written and VERY PRECISE attention to detail show is garbage is ridiculous. Atleast appreciate the consistent characters and themes surrounding the enemies. (Such as each sin they fight is reflective of their own emotional conflicts. Like armstong fights sloth cause he practiced sloth during the ishvallen war instead of acting out against the military. Just one example of many). Theres so many layers to the show thats just a testament to the amount of care and attention that went into this show. If you cant appreciate that than idk what you appreciate. May i ask what are your favorite shows so i can get a idea of what u enjoy?

And then there is Hohenheim. He deserves his own series explaining why he’s such a good character. Edit: after a year of writing this comment, it has struck up quite a debate. One of the main reasons I believe Hohenheim to be such a good character is because of the contrast between him and Father. Father, or rather, The Drawf in the Flask, conveys most of the deadly sins at some point in the show: he was glutton for the souls of humans, he was greedy for power, he showed wrath, especially when meeting the Truth, his pride caused him to believe he was better than everyone, he envied humans, and his sloth caused him to rely on minions. Hohenheim is the complete opposite though, as he conveys every good virtue throughout the show: he showed chastity and remained loyal to his wife, he was charitable to the people of Liore, as well as Izumi, he was a diligent worker whilst he was reconstructing Liore, he never turned to drink, he was patient with people, he was kind to everyone he met, and although he was the most powerful man alive, he was humble. But there was one scene where he does convey wrath, and that was when Father mocks Edward and Alphonse.

I'd like to touch on the music. This show has some of the tightest and catchiest OPs in existence (with some good EDs to boot). I just finished it for the first time a few weeks ago and the 4th OP "Period" is STILL lodged deep in my head; so much so that I pull it up on KZbin whenever I need to go somewhere nearby. The background music on the other hand can become repetitive at times, especially one piece in particular that I don't know the name of (it comes on during kinda tense scenes, but is also sometimes completely unnecessary). And of course I LOVE all the strong female characters in this show! You GOTTA be tough as nails to be an Amestris girl. From Winry to Izumi, from Riza to Olivier, you just can't beat these babes. Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I completely agree with the Openings and Endings, there isn't a single one that I even slightly dislike. But... when it comes to the soundtrack within the episodes... they're a bit flat, or at least compared to the original adaptation's *awe inspiring* musical composition. Though, the CG in "Mellisa" and the Opening "Ready Steady Go" are both things that I can safely say I do not like who it comes to FMA03. But "Brat'ja" the Russian theme for the brothers themselves, makes up for these tenfold. I'd give my soul to see a perfect third remake that incorporates the best of both worlds, there's really no way to compare them as a whole so I still have to settle for trying desperately to pick a favorite based on a tally of which one is better in it's specifics... :~: And I don't think I can.

Hey all. I have been watching FMA:B with my grandmother, and she is loving it. She also loves Death Note, Attack on Titan, and Cowboy Bebop which I have also shown her. While watching FMA:B she asked me who I thought would make a good hypothetical live action cast. We talked about it for awhile before I had to head home for the night, but here are some ones we came up with. Just a fun thing with my awesome grandma that I thought I'd share with all of you. If you have your own suggestions, or other cool stories of sharing your favorite anime with people you love, feel free to reply. Tom Selleck/Josh Brolin/Charles Dance - Fuhrer Bradley Conoleth Hill - Gluttony Adrien Brody - Shou Tucker Daniel Craig - Roy Mustang Brian Cranston - Van Hoenheim/Father Hafpor Julius Bjornsson - Sig Curtis, Sloth, or MAJOR ALEX LOUIS ARMSTRONG Jet Li/Chow Yun Fat/Jackie Chan - Old Man Fu Ellen Page - Maria Ross David Tennant/Jason Isaacs - Solf J. Kimblee Ryan Reynolds/Ryan Gosling - Jean Havoc Jason Momoa - Captain Buccaneer Bob Balaban/Bill Murray/Steve Buscemi - General Grumman Lucy Liu - Izumi Curtis Charlize Theron/Scarlett Johansson - Riza Hawkeye, or Olivier Armstrong Cliff Curtis - Miles Luke Wilson/Rob Riggle - Maes Hughes Corey Taylor - Greed (A personal choice for me, as with his attitude, and attitude towards greed as discussed in his book "Seven Deadly Sins" he's already half way there.) Christopher Judge - Jerso Paul Dano - Denny Brosch Ralph Fiennes - Yoki Rory McCann - Heinkel, or Zanpano Betty White/Diana Rigg - Pinako Rockbell Richard Griffiths - Father Cornello You've probably noticed I've left out some VERY important characters. For Ed, Al, Pride, and Winry it is because I am not the most familiar with teen and child actors, and I also have a hard time visualizing the range from elementary school age, to twenty-something that likely several actors would have to cover. For Scar, I am not the most familiar with Middle-Eastern or Indian cinema, and don't know much of their action heroes. For Ling, Lan Fan, and May, it is kind of a combination of the two. I don't know enough about young Asian teen action stars to give a valid opinion on who would make good actors for them. I feel as though Envy would be the hardest to cast out of the entire show. Constructive criticism, alterations, and additions are welcome. Please be gentle. Again, this was just something that me and my grandma talked about for fun, and I thought it might be fun to share with fellow fans.

Just rewatched FMA (2003) and it actually holds a lot of merit, despite some plot weirdness. The soundtrack is so mesmerizing, the animation is actually quite decent and the bond between the brothers ironically comes across as having greater depth than in Brotherhood. I really prefer elements of Roy's backstory and Scar's softer character, too. If only Shamballa didn't end the way it does, I'd say it was a pretty solid, albeit slightly messy, interpretation overall.
@LunaLongbottomLove Жыл бұрын
It honestly makes me so frustrated when people (it's not everybody of course! But a pretty vocal subsection in my experience) say "Oh FMA 2003 is complete shit, Brotherhood is the only good adaptation!" When that's just not true at all??? BOTH of them have their pros and cons Is Brotherhood closer to the manga? Obviously. Does it have a better emding? Yes I would say so. There are a ton of things that Brotherhood does super well in comparison to the 2003 adaptation But those first 13 episodes really do fall extremely flat compared to the corresponding episodes of the 2003 series And of course I COMPLETELY understand why they decided to rush through them to get to new material, but that doesn't change the fact that those episodes really read as what they are - a recap. Taking their time with those parts of the story as they did in the 2003 series really made for a more satisfying set of episodes (in my opinion of course) Now from the point they diverge I do prefer Brotherhood's plot more, but I certainly don't think the second half of FMA 2003 is awful, when I first watched it I fully enjoyed the series, I just enjoy Brotherhood (from episode 14 on) more after having seen both 🤷 But even though I love Brotherhood overall I feel like someone watching it without having seen the 2003 series is really missing out The first time I tried to watch it I didn't even make it past the recap episodes because I was so disappointed in how they didn't stack up to the 2003 version, and that's as someone who already loved FMA, I feel like a new fan who's never seen the 2003 series might get thrown off by those first episodes which don't really put the best foot forward compared to the rest of the show Tl;Dr: I think BOTH the 2003 series and Brotherhood are essential viewing And if you really hate the second half of the 2003 series you can always just watch the first half of it and then switch to Brotherhood 🤷 Frankenstein 'em together ya know? Lol

I kinda like the end of Shamballa, when you watch the 'Kids' OVA. I know it's an open ending, but it works for the story they were telling. The idea that the brothers lived the rest of their lives in our worlds, seems fitting for the whole 2nd world war/hydrogen bomb plot point.
@DiestroCorleone9 ай бұрын
@@lexywackess EXACTLY. I think Hughes' arc suffers greatly in Brotherhood. I knew exactly what would happen, but it dind't hit me like it did in the 2003 version. The time we spend getting to know him and his family, his relationships, greatly benefits from the extra time FMA 2003 gives it. Plus, the older anime doesn't spoil the Bradley twist in the first episode xD

we're truly blessed to have both BH and 2004 to enjoy these characters even longer. 2004 was masterful in it's own way and all the "filler" they added in first half with Hughes family and spending more time with the Tuckers made those moments all the more impactful. Was a great change/addition imo.

@Vgamer3115 жыл бұрын
TheFirehands150 I can’t think of anyone offhand who is more (realistically) evil. Sure, there’s the force of nature mustache-twirling cartoonishly evil Freizas of the anime world bent in world destruction who exist as punching bags for the main character, but that’s cartoonish evil. Shou is the kind of evil that really exists and is absolutely terrifying. I’m probably just over thinking it though.
@Xanatrix5 жыл бұрын
@@Vgamer311You absolutely aren't overthinking. He's clearly an actual sociopath. He gave no actual thoughts of resistance to using the people he allegedly loved most in the world in order to continue his research. He reflects how real-life sociopaths use the people around them for their own gain. Shou Tucker, while not the most evil person in all of anime, actually would be in the top 10, and is definitely one of the top 5 in FMA:B.
@Vgamer3115 жыл бұрын
Xanatrix Zadare yeah, the way I’m thinking of it, there would be plenty of characters who are “more evil” of your scale is they have a greater desire to do evil, or they cause more overall harm (just look at basically any Naruto or Dragon ball villain) but shou is evil in a way that actually exists in our world and I feel like that hits harder.
@TheFirehands1505 жыл бұрын
@@Vgamer311 let's break down why people think Shou Tucker is the most evil guy... He ruined his daughter by fusing her with a dog. people got mega attached to the cute daughter and dog which is why when he ruined their life, he suddenly became the most "evil" character. let's be honest here... if they never showed the daughter and just showed just the aftermath... he wouldn't make even top 100. there are plenty of anime characters that have raped, murdered, or experimented on countless women and children... even low budget side villains who are just notorius for doing this then getting killed by the main cast have these "records" in the anime. Some one please let me know why he should make top 10 when others have caused genocide (which is also attempted in real life and not cartoonish at all), and destroyed the lives of countless families, experimented on countless people, etc.

There are few shows with such strong story telling from beginning to end. The only other animated show, anime or not, with such a complex world, that maybe- maybe- as good as FMAB is Avatar the Last Airbender. But this show has Hawkeye and Mustang so, win.

Wasn't a fan of the original FMA anime, but Brotherhood is so good on it's on merit that it's top 5 in my opinion. I'll boil down to 2 simple points that make Brotherhood so good: 1) The stakes were always so high in terms of the plot which leads into point 2..... 2) The plot was consistent all the way to the end and the payoff was actually worth it. Bonus: 3) Olivier Armstrong!!

FMAB hits different at different ages. I loved it at 16 when I first saw it, and then again at 19, and then i rewatch it atleast once a year. You learn to appreciate different aspects if it. But i agree that it is easier to properly grasp the depth of the concepts at an older age.

I just got done re-watching the series earlier today, and it just reaffirmed why it's one of my favorite animes ever. Everything about it is polished. I don't even mind the first 13 episodes, because the rest of the series makes up for all of it, plus interest. I love all of the clever twists and turns, well-written and interesting characters, and especially the journey all those characters go through leading up to the endgame. Brotherhood is a smart, complex, beautifully executed masterpiece that shall live on for eternity as one of the greatest examples of animation to ever grace television screens.

FMA and FMAB are some of my favorite anime’s. The original is heartbreakingly sad and has this bleakness to it, but sucks you in. The second is more fulfilling and while depressing and dark at times, it has a wonderful and often lighthearted story in spite of its dark overall plot. FMA the original is definitely more of a drama while FMAB is more shounen. My recommendation if you want to see the canon story I would say you need to watch the first 30 episodes of FMA and then start FMAB. Why? Because the writers started FMAB with the thought in mind that the audience ALREADY watched the original. So you will be missing out and will not enjoy the story as much if you skip out on it, it further develops the characters and totally sucks you in. Or you know, you could just watch all of the original and move on to the second. It’s one hell of a ride though and has a wonderful ending, which I can’t say is the case for every anime I’ve seen.

@@xblade149 FMAB has almost all the tropes but unlike most other shonens, uses them well and in a realistic way. The brothers have a good reason to do what they do instead of having a random dream or goal in their life ; they are not lonely orphans lost in the middle of the vast world (and everyone thinking that is perfectly fine for teens) but they have the status, funds and logistics of the army thanks to Ed's state alchemist title which allow them to be autonomous, and some adults to watch over them, even loosely ; the power progress in their alchemy is very limited and mastered, and are more the result of a better understanding than more powerful skills, etc Some details we usually don't find in shonens add a lot of consistency too : smart people are actually really smart and not just powerful : see how Mustang take the time to confirm all the critical informations he learns before fully trusting them (about some characters being homonculi for example) ; or how the final battles takes into account the public opinion and not only defeating the villain. FMAB is not the common shonen, but it definitely is what more shonens should be.
