Wow. Loved this advanced full IK stuff. I remember way back 20 years ago creating full Ik cg, but later moved career to painting in 2008. This world of realtime cg has come such a long way and it was incredible watching how fast these guys were in setting up new ultra complex animations in seconds with all that node based stuff that would have taken so much longer or been impossible years ago. Great work UE team!

I was able to set up a nicely debuggable control rig by doing what's done around 2:00:00. Adding actual controls that are driven by inputs, and then having my full body IK node driven by controls themselves. I actually parented the controls to a null and then had the values of the nulls set by incoming bone positions. This way the control transforms weren't overwritten every frame and I could move the controls in the editor to have even better visualization of what's going on. As an added bonus, if you're previewing using an animation, you can adjust the controls to preview on top of the animation, like what a walking animation would look like if the foot was raised up slightly due to slope warping. Not sure of the perf impacts of doing this once you have a rig working in production though. Maybe once done, as an optimization, you can actually remove the controls altogether and make the inputs drive everything again instead of indirectly through controls.

Hey Jeremiah - in many videos, including this one, something is happening with your microphone so that the end of sentences get very very quiet and hard to understand. I’m not sure if maybe you need to turn on audio compression / limiting? The other Epic peeps sound fine but some of your awesome instructions get a bit lost :-/

Great tutorial and information. My question would be, could the animation FBIK u explain at 1hr 26m can you create this globally, so it applies to all characters in your game or all humanoid characters in your game? This way you don't have to recreate it for each and every character. Thanks Also, when developing SlopeWarping_CtrlRig can this be globally applied as well?

Wish I could program. I have a couple cool ideas for mages designed in different ways. One being an iOS but the other a computer game I’d like to make with a very D&D style game that plays between 6 people. 5 being in a group and the 6th playing the GM with some starting having some premade GM stories and design it with an easier system to design your own quest for people to try.. Then after you design it you can upload it for others to play. GM would be able to summon particular mobs that GM plays with a group of 5 around him. He controls the mobs with their abilities. Each map would break off into 3 or 4 other options depending on key GM gives the group. I’d love to see WOW instanced content with GM control to make it more competitive. You get a key or item that takes the story in a different direction.
@jonathanhughes86792 жыл бұрын
Maybe later if the game is fun enough and interesting enough you could eventually create an mmorpg with it using D&D 3.5 or 4 rules. And use a combo tab action fight interface.

Honestly, foot-sliding looks pretty aweful. Why isn't there a method to resolve this in UE5?
@giffordgarry67873 жыл бұрын
In this case they are showing off warping the rotation of a root motion animation, no one would leave it like this in a game. You could approach it a few ways. You could force the player to be more or less in the right position with blocking volumes etc. before triggering the root motion. You could read the difference from the player to the target angle and use an extra animation to get you most of the way there. You could take control of the player earlier and walk him into the target position. I'm sure there's even more ways to solve this.
@charlesalexanderable3 жыл бұрын
They show a solution in the drop down (around 42:12), Adjustment Blend Warp. They say it is still in development. You can watch the gdc talk they mention for details on what it does: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5a6c5-Df62FZ5Y .

year 2021, nearly photorealistic graphic, but the most simple important thing for the realism, the mass momentum and continuity when character is moving, is still not there.. you have to motion capture for this :/
@thezyreick42893 жыл бұрын
Motion capture doesn't work too well either. It's just a massless video playing. It can be completely out of sync with the world around it Also, you say the most simple, yet you refer to the most complex feat of known reality. There is nothing simple about the combination of billions of living organisms coming together to share a singular set of instructions in order to build and maintain a living organism which is the result of those billions of smaller living organisms, then recreating the subtle movements of subconscious movement that come from all that organisms experiences and trying to simulate the movement and interactions of all the trillions of atoms that make up the organism and how that organism defies the state of matter in order to force it to move, and simulating all the stresses and impacts caused by said movement

What's the most irritating speech habit to your listeners? Using fillers - repeatedly saying words such as "Um", Uh... Aah..." The problem with using fillers such as these when you speak is that they distract your listener - often to the point that he doesn’t hear anything you say... And with you, pal, that number is amazingly high. You tack fillers onto the end of every sentence and sandwich them between every phrase... Please work on this. Your content... Um... is really useful and interesting, apart from these ... Um... things!

xP hahahaha. That was brutal. But seriously, 3 hours of unscripted teaching of a complex subject, it would take a lot of effort and concentration to fix A BIT of that habit in a similar long stream, you are asking for perfection, very few can give us that satisfaction. :P

Mate, I can understand what you are coming from as hearing a lot of filler words gets me frustruated sometimes too! But now that I have given lessons about ue4 and I am relatively a good speaker but even with a basic stuff I did struggle a lot with that filler words. It really is hard to be a great speaker and great/expert coder at the same time. I now feel what they are going through and I'm just totaly okay with that and grateful for what they have thought on the livestream. Piece of advice (and don't take it personally please) just try to teach some stuff on realtively complex engineering concept ( preferably in ue4 ) and see how that feels for you.... Maybe then you can understend them a bit better. :) Have a good day! :)
