From the guitar repair community: a layer or two of scotch tape on the outsides of the blade (in place of the sanding he did) can help you get very close to the rest of the finish to where it sands out and polishes easily. It works better on flatter surfaces than the curved surface that this one is on.

I learned about that same method from twoodford. He's an incredible guitar repairman and luthier here on KZbin. Check him out if you don't know about him already 😊

Being a mechanic for over 35 years I have always been impressed in the black art of spray painting, as no one sees a mechanics work, but everyone sees the work of a painter. I have just started to learn spray painting for motorcycle parts...and yes I have a run in the colour coat....I know now how to fix it. A+ for your video.

Works well when you masking tape the ends of the blade then you can almost adjust the height of you razor to the tee just by adding a extra strip of tape on the ends or removing a strip

I'm just a hobbyist but this method works good for me too. I bend a gentle curve in the blade & use the outside edge so the corners of the blade are further from the paint. My only worry is how much clear is left and how the durability is affected. Thanks for sharing this great tip!

Gabriel, there is a much better way to do this which was first introduced to me in a Kevin Tetz Paintucation video. 1)Take the single edge razor blade and mount it protected edge down in a vise with the sharp edge up. 2) Then take a smooth Phillips screwdriver at a 5 degree angle from horizontal and perpendicular to the razor blade and with high pressure drag it across the sharp edge of the razor blade. 3) What this will do is form a burr on the razor blade. This technique has been used for centuries to sharpen cabinet scrapers in the woodworking world. It might be wise to look up sharpening a cabinet scraper on KZbin to get an idea as to how this technique works. 4) Once you form this burr bend the razor blade with your fingers into a very gentle arc with the center of the blade sticking out further than the edges. Bend the blade so that the burr formed is on the outside edge of the arc. This bending prevents the edges of the blade from hitting the work surface first 5) Use the burr to remove the run. It will cut though the run at lightning speed. In Kevin's DVD he removes the worst run I've ever seen from a mirror in a matter of minutes.

Recently painted and after 3 days of cure clear in my opinion was still too soft to repair a few drips in this way. So you're right it needs to be hard. I have used the razor blade method in the past and it worked pretty well. I have also used a de-nibber on the fine file side, then with a small DA gently used 800, then 1000, and they were gone. Thanks for the video.

Nice video brother, we get those ugly runs from time to time, we're human after all right. Let me give you a tip on the razor blade if you want it. Cutting down the sharp edge is great, in addition what's worked extremely well for me is wrapping the edges of the razor with masking tape, leaving about 2/3 of the center blade exposed. That serve 2 purposes, 1) you cover the edges of the blade to prevent digging and 2) it gives you just the perfect height to glide over that run and giving you peace of mind that you're not going to burn through. I usually do 2 layers of tape and as I get close to where I need to be I remove one layer. God job though, I had all the faith you could do it.. dont beat yourself up so much 👍 By the way where are you located?

Hello! Many thanks! for a very good and Valuable Video. I wonder if, I have got orange peel on the clear coat, after 2 layers. And if I wait 2 to 3 days, and then matt down the entire body part, with p800, and then clean properly, and Add 1 to 2 new layers of clear coat. Is it okay to do that? And if I haven't gotten all the orange peel off after I've matted down the first clear coat. Will it then be visible through the new clear coat? Or what do you think? Thanks! I have used this exact same method for years and it works. Unfortunately this happens ti all the painters and not every run is the same. The size of the run and where it is ,is going to dertermine the success of saving the panel from respraying it. If the run doesn't have bubbles in it it can be save and I hope you don't go back to spraying in that paintsiut because it is now contaminated.
