I have a camping friend that trained for 2 years to do the trip down the Colorado River Raft trip. It took 21 days to go all the way down from one end to the other. She did it last year She loved it!! She is now training for a marathon in San Diego for breast cancer. She said it was the best thing she ever did. She had so much fear, but over came it.

I saw your van tour on the other channel and could relate so much -- for one, I had a sienna when my kids were little; for two, my youngest are about to graduate and I am SO READY FOR WEEKS ALONE, lol. So I come over here and the title "Motivation comes and goes, Discipline is forever" just made something click for me. So thanks for that. I have a teeny bit of experience with starting to exercise, so I will share what I've learned (although I don't think it will be revelatory for you lol). For me, I picked a teeny tiny goal --to do five push-ups and five squats a day. And I did it first thing in the morning. And I just forced myself to do it, which wasn't so hard, we're talking about maybe 3 minutes of effort? But of course somedays it was harder, but I stuck to it. And a couple weeks passed, and one day I felt like 10 pushups would be easy peasy, so I did it. Long story short, I stuck to the tiny goal, and when bigger goals seemed 'easy', I upped my game. And that was lovely. And as one does, I fell 'off the wagon' (told myself I could skip it since I was (insert random reason here) . . . and then I bitched at myself for a couple weeks, but then I just got back on, back at the beginning. A beginning is statistically meaningless, but it's definitively more than ~nothing~, right? "Just do five" I told myself . . . and again, the baby steps keep building. Anyway, now I'm doing up to doing 20 of five different calisthenics and I like the baby muscles I can see, but more than that I like the new found gift of trusting myself to do the thing, and grow the thing, and possibly drop the ball but PICK IT UP AGAIN. You got this!
@YouAndMeLivingFree2 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you shared this - truly! We need to start SMALL and then we need to take BABY steps - the smallest steps, like what you're talking about - is the best way to go - I'm convinced!

This will be a fun journey! And helpful! Walking and other forms of exercise ... in my case property chores, are not an issue. I love both and the challenge is the reverse ... staying inside and getting my work done. I am a self-employed work from home computer programmer and paid by the hour with task deadlines (for 37 years!). I love the programming work but I also love being outside and moving. What worked best for me when I first started and lived in CA near the beach was rewards ... if I got 3 hours in before 11 a.m. I could take a bike ride and have lunch at a favorite hole in the wall on the beach. Now, in rural MT and years later I don't do the rewards so much, but I do write up a schedule every day with work times and break times. It is not rigid as there are times when there is a natural break in work or I'm stuck into a task and do not want to break and I'll reshuffle the schedule. But I have a "billable hour" goal, time for outside breaks and I have a dog who has an excellent internal clock so adjusting walk time is challenging ☺. I am 67 and toting around an extra 45 lbs but I have always been athletic and still do strength training plus a bit of yoga ... the challenge for me is decreasing intake. I eat whole food but I am a sourdough baker .... Anyway, I will be working on keeping to an eating plan of smaller portions as my challenge with some set goals.

Hi Liz! Thanks for sharing! Walking, plus strength plus flexibility…go YOU! That’s awesome! That’s definitely on the goals list eventually! We can do it! I have faith in us! 😊

Wonderful walk and wisdom. I just love seeing the beauty around me because the soul loves beauty. Since we've been having so many wildfires here in the Pacific Northwest the air quality has been preventing me from going outside to walk. So my alternative is to do things in the house when I think of them rather than putting them off or doing something that's already on my list. As many as I can without pushing or judging my speed, one step after another, just like walking. Thanks Dani.

Just found your channel. Love you. Go walking! 9 yrs ago I started walking and eating whole food plant based (no oil). I went from 257 lbs to 127 lbs in 9 months. Then Covid hit yrs later and I went off tract because I couldn’t find the food I usually eat. That caused me to gain weight. Now that I can get the food I eat, as there is no shortages, I have to get back on track. I walk about 10 miles a day but I struggle with the motivation. Keep going the goal is real and you will get there. 👋 Oh by-the-way, I’m 57.

Ah, I love kc people are so nice in Wichita imo also! I had a similar situation tonight with the gym I didn't go this morning bc it's not a habit yet. I just set it up yesterday bc of the new van life shower situation. I went to the parking lot after work and it was packed so I ended up going to Albertsons and laying in the back for a few. And finally said "no, this is silly. I just paid for the membership." So I made myself go and did about fifteen minutes on the bike and elliptical. Not crazy but nice to ease into new routines. I also got to take a hot shower. Supposed to be like 30 tonight so will help a ton. Sorry for the life story but I definitely resonate with ya on this.
