I am currently studying and getting my hours for coaching , it is difficult at times to keep it so simple and use short open ended questions to motivate change , but its the best way for people to find there own solutions to there own issues and or own plan to get to where they wanna be . Thank you for this webinar ,

Mini goals helped me change - I learnt to run by by incremental goals - 30 seconds at a time. The goal was manageable. Mini goals

As an addiction counselor who would not have access to these nuggets of wisdom for a therapist in making. Very grateful sucha simplicition. What I understand is MI is very similar to gestalt as both are person centric. It's more about growth then behavior change. An MI therapist should always be authentic and not have I know better, listen to me approach. I guess that can be done while psychoeducative part may be? Cause there you are saying this is what depression or anxiety looks like and this is the way people are getting help. So my point is it will sometime depend on the individual's background. MI can be the initially used. But then when the client is open to change and psychoeducate about what might be happening with openess. Therapy is a helping profession. It aumatically puts you in a bit of teacher and student role. Like you coached your daughter. In addiction, I have seen ambivalence being issue in different stages in some indiduals. It's strange we want change but we don't want change. We are in war sometimes with ourselves and the war is destructive when our part of the brain wins that wants instant gratification, hence behavior change is so difficult. So many times we are all aware of what are the consequences of the action, exceeding moderation, yet we can't control ourselves. We are controlled by the part doesn't want to work in our best interest. I would love to wear that dress but I can't stop overeating. I want to save my marriage but I can't stop drinking alcohol. I want to be an engineer weed is fucking my memory but I can't stop. Like I enjoy self destructing myself. Like I somewhat don't believe I am capable of handling the change. Sometimes we do want we want and sometime we do what we need. And sometimes we sidetrack from our own necessary priorities. I wanna enjoy food but I am also a mother who wants to be a good role model. Here's my non negotiation in life are for myself. We give clear instruction to mind. This is what I want and take me there in life. We make ourselves accountable. And have fun along the way.

Hi randomshot , i like your comment and can relate to it, i too am studying to be a sud counselor and recovery coach . I enjoy motivational interviewing to help clients through the stanges of change and helping motivate them forward , the only time i feel it is not that helpful is when a person is going through trauma and or in a place where they are full of pain and resentment . what country are you working in ?
