Well guys you are trying ! We can recommend Vango Galaxy 300 owned and used since 2018 and used abroad. Goes up really easy once you fix the inner lining you leave it in. We can both stand up straight and cook in the seating area. Also ground sheet but we do use another to keep clean/ water / grass. We use a double air mattress and sleeping bag very cosy, and in winter a spare blanket as we camp in all season's. Plenty room inside.😊 We fit all gear to each motorbike. Been in some terrible storms and winds to over 60 +. Keep them videos coming . Kevin & Claire

Again I would definitely recommend the galaxy 300. Easy all in 1 setup in around 10 minutes when you get used to it. Best part you can stand up in it and has loads of room for 2. The bedroom section is lower so will be better for keeping warm. Not the prettiest tent but it works really well. Best of luck and enjoying the videos.

7:35 For me this tent has a flaw on the right side in the sleeping area. It lacks an additional stiffening cord in the middle. In the current shape of this tent if it gets a 70-80 mph gust of wind from the side it will break it and lie on you. Such gusts of wind occur frequently in today's weather. The film already shows how the gentle wind bends the tent in this place . Test a tent like Karrimor Panther 3

When you plan on camping also in low temps I always would go for a sleeping bag with a down filling. When you buy a new one you really have to spend some money on that. But it's worth it. 45 years ago I bought a used US Army sleeping bag (which had seen the Vietnam war) filled with REAL downs, which was already excellent. I then asked my mother to fill in some 500g extra downs just to play it really cosy. What can I say I was never ever freezing since then. Today my doughter uses it. If it gets too warm open it and use it like a blanket or lie on it.

An honest review is a rare thing and worth every minutes watching, thanks for your TRUE opinions. £25 for a 'Wild Camping' site sounds about right, I avoid them, head for a conventional site and pay ten to fifteen quid. I agree that a tent like the Opalus 3 is a single motocamper tent. I have done about a months worth of camping since buying my Vango Scafell 300+, which is an almost identical size and style. I have sufficient room for me and all my kit and manage to sleep without touching the tent to the flysheet, which at 1.85m tall is not the case in many tents. I was in North Wales in both June and September in 5 degrees and did not suffer with condensation at all. Comrie Croft just outside Crieff in Scotland have wheelbarrows as they only allow vehicle into the car park other than loading and unloading. I managed to find a quiet spot next to their dumper truck to lock and cover my bike every night. I was there for a week and it wasn't a problem.

Hi . We recently travelled over to Achill Island in Ireland and god what a disaster. The site that we booked was so busy that all of the ropes from the tents was touching each other. The rain started at 22.30 and carried on until around 17.00 the following day. The Tent was so cramped because we had no choice other than stay in the tent. When your traveling like you two then you need a level of comfort . Great stream and makes you think about kit 👍👍👍❤❤

Smaller tent you say…why? I use a 5-man Campmaster all-weather tent just for me! It is 1.85m high, tons of space for helmet, jacket and riding suit, soft panniers, bags etc and cooking gear. It’s actually way too big for 1 person but why camp in a small tent just to save a couple of kgs…Personally, I’d rather have the space. Hi Guys. I just bought a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 Long. It weighs less than 2kg without the footprint. I wouldn't want to have 3 people in there but it's very spacious for 2 with loads of storage pockets and a good head height and you can put up the fly first if you have a footprint (or maybe anyway). (It's tapered a bit but will fit two 25" mats) If you want something a bit cheaper and a bit heavier, you could try the Big Agnes Blacktail Hotel, which comes in different sizes but look very spacious. Keep up the good work! 😃👍💪😅

Have you guys considered going for a ‘hot tent’ for winter/‘shoulder season’ use? In other words, a tent with provision for a wood stove flue to safely pass to outside. This is not as daft as it sounds, as you can get a fold-up wood stove with a roll-up flue pipe, all of which comes in a small zipper case. I have a couple of different such tents and stoves and they transform the cold weather camping experience. Have a look at the One Tigris Rock Fortress pyramid tent, which I have, and which is perfect for two, has standing room and packs down perfectly for motorcycle use. Ali Express usually have the tent and various stoves or Amazon is another option. You could take a bag of ‘logs’, compressed shavings pieces or whatever, or buy them locally from near the campsite when you head out for a food shop for example. The tent without the stove is also brilliant.

@@ontheroadadventureGreat stuff! I should add that there is an optional inner for the Rock Fortress, which gives you mesh protection from midges etc., but I have used mine mostly without one, but with a groundsheet that I made to suit, including putting eyelets in for pegging out as it doesn’t have a sewn-in one. However, the excellent storm flaps can be tucked under a groundsheet to get a similar effect.

A couple of points following another great video. The use of a groundsheet/footprint covering the vestibule, as well as making things drier, more comfortable and so on, significantly reduces condensation from ground moisture. The Opulous does have a large vestibule area, which increases this effect. The next point is one of raising awareness of a huge safety issue linked to camping. You mentioned the cold night you had, and most of us will have experienced that while camping! One or two have mentioned tent heaters, which can be fine with good ventilation, or certain electrical ones may be fine. What is INCREDIBLY dangerous (apologies for the caps) is when people bring a barbecue they’ve been cooking on into their cold tent, as it ‘still has some heat in it’. At this stage it is pumping out huge amounts of carbon monoxide, which is of course absolutely lethal, resulting in several deaths a year on UK campsites and in other countries too, no doubt. Please get the message out to friends and family who camp, as few people seem to understand this.
@ontheroadadventure
@ontheroadadventure Ай бұрын
Thanks, you cant believe people can be so stupid eh.... We didnt know about adding a ground sheet to reduce condensation though, this does make sense now you say it... Could well be why our MSR doesnt condensate as almost the entire tent area is covered on the floor

Anyways, getting side tracked 😆We used the tunnel tent for 1 trip and I didn't like the condensation either! Trevor liked the tent because of the vestibule. Well, I researched and bought a preloved Wickiup 4 Teepee tent (weighs about 2.5 KG) and i can stand in the middle, we have tons of space inside. We use 2 cot beds, have all our gear in there (apart from the panniers) and have a little porch to cook if needed. We also have a tarp which we use if needed or if we stay somewhere more than a day. Hi guys, thanks again for your videos. Loved watching you both tick about the kit which took me back to my time living and operating on the Brecon Beacon in minus 10 as well as operational tours also in sub zero. It really is an art to keeping warm and these days you can find really great kit to help you. 22 years in the army and I have never slept in a tent but only a poncho with 2 ends in the ground and the other 2 attached knee high to trees leaving you open to the elements. Nutrition is also a factor to quality of life while out in the wild. I see you guys fry most of your food which is crap for the body in the long run. There are other options and great cooking hacks out there. Maybe look for an ex army guy in your area that can help wish bush craft cooking and how to keep warm and dry. Again, I did say ex army. I know this is counterintuitive, but what about 2 tents and you can always face the vestibules opposite so you can chat, I've heard the Durston mid pro 2 (expensive but highly rated) is a great light tent, and though you need hiking poles to pitch, you would have poles anyway so it's the same, or failing that, what about the LoneRider tents? Thanks for sharing and see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤙 🤟

I know its been mentioned a couple of times but the Vango Galaxy 300 should be a consideration. We ordered one which arrived today and although weve only had it up in the garden are quite impressed. To put it into context, we have the same MSR as you guys but where the vango should win is with the large porch area where we can both sit and cook in, it also pitches as one so pitching in the rain is less of an issue. However because the sleeping bit is just a tunnel tent with a hanging inner there is a degree af baggyness that you dont get with the msr. The quality of the MSR is superior and woyld still be our go to tent unless a week of shitty weather was forecast. To throw another option in then go massive, we also have an outwell dash 5 tunnel tent but thats only really for if we're in the same place for a week (for the IOM TT it would be ideal. Like you guys we have 2 bikes, so carrying a big tent isnt really an issue and having it on the pillion seat makes for a handy back rest.

To be fair, you will always get condensation in a tent when camping in cold and wet weather. I can't vouch if that is true of bigger tents as our biggest biking tent is probably smaller than this (Vango Omega 250), but I'm sure you will still get it whatever the size of tent but with being more spacious you're less likely to press against it. Good entertaining vid again!

It's not as a popup tent, it's got proper tent poles that are hinged and remain connected to the outer and inner tent all the time. The poles just fold in to the centre via the hinges. The inner can be removed and put in the washing machine to freshen it up if needed. Look on you tube,there's loads of videos. Takes about the same length of time to put away.. fold the poles then just roll it up.

Tent needs more airflow - poor design, with the rain fly part of the tent. Probably good in the rain, but with a separate rain fly you can leave gaps around the bottoms. My (backpacker/2 person Big Agnes) is about 4 lbs, so 8 (3.5 kg) is still light for two. Warm weather tiny tents are fine (for just sleeping) but you have the right idea for comfort in cold weather.

Water condensation on a waterproof tent canvas is absolutely normal. For that you have an inside tent open for vapor. Every body produces vapor, even masses of water during sleep and since it is cold outside and the canvas is waterproof it will condensate on the surface of the cold canvas of the tent. You have this effect always when there is not enough venting so that the moist air is vented to the outside e.g. when you sleep in your car. You can prevent the condensation only by venting like hell with fresh and dry cold air or heating up so that the warm air can hold all the moisture.

Rather than checking ‘reviews’ and buying on Amazon and then having the hassle of negotiating a return why not visit a decent outdoor store and talk to (hopefully) experts; you could make it clear that if their recommendation doesn’t work out you will be returning it - they should agree to this if they are reputable business. As with most things ‘you get what you pay for’. [Reading the comments it seems that everyone recommends ‘their tent’ ] Good luck…..looking forward to your future adventurers.

Good to know about the Opalus 3, not that I was thinking of getting one. But I do have a different Naturehike tent - Mongar 2 with a vestibule. - and I like the value of the Naturehike tents. I only have me to worry about so size is not a problem, and I get all my gear that I need to put in the tent inside, even without bringing the vestibule. I have never had the condensation that tent had, and I had it down to about 3 or 4 deg.C. The vestibule only is single skin so that could get condensation. I also have a Helinox Cot One that I can setup inside the Mongar, but now that I have a good sleeping pad and an insulated groundsheet I sometimes go without the cot. It is short and I have to kneel to put on my pants and that is a pain, but the Mongar is compact overall and that is what I wanted. My tent also has the external fly that allows you to put it up in the rain, which I know is a feature you are looking for. The pegs are the only thing I found to be too light and bent easily, so I got some heavier ones. Good luck with finding another tent suitable for you two. One solution is to get a tarp which can be erected in the rain and then pitch whatever tent you end up with underneath in the shelter of the tarp.
@ontheroadadventure
@ontheroadadventure Ай бұрын
What holds the tarp up over the tent while we put it up?

@@ontheroadadventureIf not camping amongst trees then you have to bring telescoping tarp poles. As you might expect there is a fair bit of selection on tarps, poles, ways to pitch tarps, etc. Some even camp under the tarp and forget about the tent, but that’s more hard core. 😊

I’ve just bought that tent after watching loads of great video’s. You can’t moan about a tent if you haven’t put it up right. It shouldn’t be sagging! If you know about tents, there isn’t many (if any) that are actually what they say they are. A 2 man is really a one man etc two in an emergency. Although saying that, I’m expecting to use the tent on my own. If it’s cold outside you will get condensation in any tent especially with two of you breathing in there. It’s horses for courses really, you spoiled yourselves with the MSR. You need another tent you can stand up in. Try Premier inn😂. Love your vlogs.

Nature Hike is more at the leisure end of the market, but for the money could be a good option -but only in the right conditions. Our (uk) temperate climate means often high humidity, wet ground and cool nights - nearly all tents will produce condensation in these conditions no matter how much you vent them - I have a largish collection of tents and all in the uk are wet to a greater of lesser extent - only in dry air and or hot condition (3 days a year for the uk) are they truly dry. Size does also help actually, the larger the tent generally the better the condensation conditions. As you are sharing the load between 2 bikes pack size and weight is less of an issue, your MSR tent would seem to be almost ideal apart from the inner pitch first issue (which I personally hate) - something the same but with simultaneous inner/fly pitch would be ideal?
