Love this bike! I use a 2005 DRZ400SM for daily commuting for 10 years now. I own multiple bikes but I'm quickest by far on my DRZ through traffic. Every commute awakes the playing kid in me (at 50 years old 😇) Ohw, and I must mention that it never broke down. New one seems to be a bit heavy and low on power, but guess that an airbox mod, removal of the catalytic converter, and another mapping will bring it on par with the previous model.
@RealHooksy15 күн бұрын
Looks like a pipe and some air box mods etc should liven up the drz and lighten it up too. 6 speed would have been great but I guess if it’s still cheap we’ll let them get away with it.

I don't really miss a sixt gear. I rarely exceed 100 km/h or 63 mph, which is totally fine in 5th gear. It does 90 mph flat out on the highway, but apart from torturing the engine, it is too light for those speeds and becomes unstable in the wind, That's why I have other bikes for highway use.

Still, I think they missed a bid opportunity by not giving it a six speed transmission and a bump to 450cc to elevate it from the last generation. It's not enough to make me want to trade up from my current drz, really don't care about ride modes for a dualsport.

@@motojc They updated the clutch, and the gear ratios. No 6 speed, but I had a DR650 with 5 speed and it cruised 75-80 no problem and hit 100mph. The 400 has as much horsepower as the 650 so could pull a higher gear. 6 speed would have been ideal, but if they got the ratios right, it could be much improved just with the 5 speed.

I am hoping the gears are spaced more appropriately to not, necessarily, need a 6th gear for bikes like these. Most probably a sixth gear was not included to keep the costs down, and they compromised by spacing the gear ratios instead. I had the last SM model, and on the highway, all it needed was a taller 5th gear, not necessarily a sixth gear. Remember, these bikes are not intended for long distance performance on motorways. Motorways are doable, but at a slower pace. Otherwise get a Transalp, T7, or similar.

Sold my barely used 21 last year. I knew this bike was coming as I had participated in a focus group on it. The biggest gripe on the last generation was that it was still carbureted, needed a new dash, and the styling could use a refresh. Yes a 6th gear would’ve been nice, but no one really complained about it or needing more power or less weight. It still fulfills a dying niche of being an unapologetic super moto with few compromises. Most of the mods transformed the bike into a handling monster that punched way above its weight. We don’t really have a choice but to embrace the bike for what it is and isn’t. It’ll be another 20 years until it’s refreshed again and in that time the mods will roll back in and both the old and new generation bike will continue the cult following it deserves. I wish they would’ve just stuck the 450cc and trans from the RMZ into an upgraded chassis and called it a day. Better yet build a super moto/tour/adventure bike from the aging SV650. Suzuki knows their audience for this bike and played it safe… again. Cmon Suzu… update the Tu250x, the Drz650, and that god awful 250 “sport bike” already

And also the new gearbox with hopefully better ratios are compatible with the older drz. I think 5 gear is fine. My drz has the ACT wide ratio gearbox and its good on the highway. I can cruise at 110km/h with a 15/41 sprocket set up. It just need a taller 5th gear and smaller 1st gear and have the other gears well spaced out and its good. Anyways the drz is not really stable at high speeds. Its very prone to tank slapper. Speaking from experience. As a major DRZ Fanboy, they missed the mark by a long way. They have had 25 years to figure this out. Less power, heavier, taller same exact gearing we have been complaining about for 25 years. Mind boggling to me. The number 1 and 2 complaints were not addressed. #1 comaint is gearing.....not fixed. #2 complaint was weight...not addressed. #3 complaint is the seat....that remains to be seen. For now, me and everyone i know says they perfer the older version over this new failure. Yes the few things they did are good, they didnt change what everyone has been complaining about. So its 100% clear that Suzuki does not listen to their customers at all. IMO, major fail. All new, fuel injected engine, but still only 5 speeds? You gotta be kidding me, Suzuki!

They changed the ratios. We will see how well they did. I think they knew it was an issue and didn't totally ignore it.

Anyway, watching this video, should not think that's how the place actually is. They opened it for content producers a few days before the general public. I attended, and it was overwhelming-thousands of people made it nearly impossible to even take pictures of the bikes. I highly doubt that those KZbinrs were there either yesterday or today. The venue was packed with teenagers and indifferent parents allowing their kids to sit on the bikes. Overall, it was a complete disaster. Never again!

How does this still have a 5 speed transmission 🤦♂

I bought a drz400sm in 2010, rode it maybe a half mile down the road and turned around and put it up for sale. The most pig of a bike I've ever ridden in my life, replaced it with a KTM 625smc that I absolutely adored. I'm appalled to see that they fixed absolutely nothing that made this bike so bad to begin with. It's now even heavier while making the same power and still has a 5 speed. All they needed to do was make it FI with a 6 speed and give it a few more cc's and they couldn't even do that. What an absolute joke. If you're considering buying one of these you should seriously consider getting your testosterone checked.

Shouldn't be much more than a CRF300L or KLX300. If they could make a KLX400 with a 6 speed we wouldn't even need this.

Fuel emissions thing is stupid. The solution should be make celebrities and millionaires/billionaires pay a massive fee for using their private jets. Let vehicles be dirty and as powerful as possible!

How the hell is 151kg “impressive”? You’re putting on “shill” vibes. It’s down on power, it’s heavier, it’ll run leaner, the suspension and looks are the only good points.🙄
@motolover569716 күн бұрын
The kerb weight is high, but then still just a bit too low to be European A2 licence compliant.
@jimtitt357116 күн бұрын
Wrong, it is A2 compliant. At the stated curb weight it could be 30.2kW.
