@Mark-ep4bj6 сағат бұрын
Most larger ADV bikes are glorified touring bikes for long distance, highway, light trails and lugging around luggage. Which can be nice for commuting too but other bikes can fair for that too. So is it really worth the price if you don't need it for those things? Many commute and carry luggage with lighter and smaller bikes. Dual sports and supermotos that are the best choice to off road but also have in- verse flaws like highway. They can also be converted with snow skits for moto sledding. Better than snow skiing imo. It really comes down to fuzzy labeling and marketing. Might as well compare it to over landing and car camping.

Power is not the problem. Its the weight and the complexity of the electronics that are deal breakers. They should shrink the big GS to arround 700c which is the sweet spot of power and weight using the low center of gravity of the boxer.

Nuts! Every time I think I've selected next year's bike, something new comes along. Challenge on this side of pond is that unless you live in a larger city on the East or Left Coast the dealers are very limited and often under-par for service. I'm in Idaho and there is only one dealer that is a combo RV, Boat, UTV, Snow Mobile & Motorcycles. The staff would much rather sell/service boats & $250k RV's than m/c's.

That 450 BMW engine would be something, if my memory serves, that hasn't been heard before anywhere in the world (* updated info below). The equivalent (having done all the math) would be listening to a 125° V-twin, or a very wide angle V-twin. 270°-450° like an MT-07, has 90 degree between crankpins 180°-540° like a Ninja 500, has 180 degree between crankpins 360°-360° like a BMW F800GS, has pins aligned side by side 285°-435° like a KTM 790, has 75 degree between crankpins 315°-405° like a Husqvarna Nuda 900R, has 45 degree between crankpins ---------------- 125°-595° would have to have 125 degree between crankpins. The other option would be 55 degree, but that would translate to a 305° firing order, not 125°. * *Just discovered the Moto Guzzi Bicilindrica 500 of 1933 used a 125° wide-angle Vtwin. Lasted from 1933 to the mid 1950's.*

I have a Desert X, an amazing bike. The thing is I realised that even if I take some courses for off-road driving I still need a lighter bike to start on so I don't mess up the DDX. Never did like the CF450MT after riding it... With the new KTM390, Suzuki DR-Z4S, Kawasaki KLE and BMW on the horizon, here's me hoping for a great and light adv bike. Also Kove felt great but it's too much of a dirt bike for me.

I also have a DDX. But I would stay with the DDX, this bmw with 19" is not even close. The problem I have with small bikes is when you have to go back home on a highway. I like the new KTM 390... but I think it is still heavy. I think the dr4s is the second bike for me.

@DavidDualSport I am not a rich guy, the DDX was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I don't necessarily plan on selling it (I love it). I would like to keep it as a touring bike for me and the missus, the issue is the passenger seat that kinda sucks (she liked the Multistrada v2s). There is also the fact that it is expensive to raise a child, so if I can afford a loan the DDX will stay.

I am worried about the engine. I have a BMW F850GS and I have to say that the F850GS engine is pretty shit. You can't ride below 3000rpm or it'll feel like a studderfest and you basically ride in your first gear until 30km/h, which is awkward and torquey. We just want a simple bike good power, light weight , ABS and a light clutch normal display no need for power modes .
@exothermal.sprocket8 сағат бұрын
I agree, anything equivalent to a 90° Vtwin or narrower, all the way down to a typical Harley Davidson 45° would sound good, the latter being replicated in the Nuda 900R. A 125° is wider than the usual 270° (with 90° crank pin relative splay angle), which would be rather odd. I looked up info and apparently Moto Guzzi had a 120° wide angle V-twin from 1933 into the mid 1950's. 125°-595°-125°-595°-etc would be firing interval.

The G310GS was good at what is was designed for. In India it works really well. It's not an off road bike and it's definitely not designed to be ridden fast. The suspension is comfortable and the bike is relatively cheap.

@@chrishart8548 The price dropped after no body entered the showroom for 2 years or so. I agree with the suspension and ride. But the bike is not worth buying even now at today's prices. Overprice and underperform when compared to its competition. The BMW 450 engine sounds way too close to a 180⁰ and halfway to a 90⁰(270⁰) crank(it's 125⁰ as BOB has pointed out )and sounds a bit like it's broken , I hope that the engine is smooth and reliable. @@TheINDIAN It was called the Moto Guzzi Bicilindrica 500. I just learned about it not that long ago. There's a couple videos online, but the vintage of the engine being so old, air cooled, probably imprecise valve train, it makes a lot of noise so it's a little hard to hear the cadence. Plus the microphone was overwhelmed in the clip I found. I will say it is more similar to a 180° parallel to my ear, than anything in the more pleasing 270° and up. No I haven't been to Milan. I live in upper central USA.
@magnusenamd9 сағат бұрын
According to me, the minimum is 275cc per cylinder to have a prerequisite for good turning at lower rpm. I can't understand why you should have a heavy 450cc twin when it should be at least 550cc. Tiresome. It will weigh like a 700cc almost probably too. Pathetic. I say this from the perspective of how big a difference there is between 250cc and 300cc single cylinder and there are enduro 2 cylinder with 450 and 550cc and the difference in torque at low revs is brutally large. This is just a way for the manufacturers to milk you with crap until many years later they come with 550cc.
@exothermal.sprocket8 сағат бұрын
What's an acceptable weight to you, anyway? Consider how light Kawasaki's 296, 399, and 451 engines have been as twins on their Ninja and Z models. Yamaha's 321cc twin in the MT and R3 isn't very heavy. The biggest difference is the chassis. Do you want essentially a dirtbike chassis dual sport, or a beefier motorcycle chassis for ADV? One is a dirt play thing that is less tiring than a motocross bike, the other is a utility machine that can haul bags and a passenger long distance. The lines are blurring between dual sport and ADV bikes. Aprilia had a Vtwin in a dirtbike chassis before, but it was too expensive to manufacture and maintain (RXV550).

I think the NX500 should have been a NX600 and a single cylinder and also have wire wheels. I would also prefer the NX400 that they have in Japan. Also bring back 350's. Crf350L klx350L. And keep them 6 speed. They say we have lots of choice I don't think we do.
@exothermal.sprocket7 сағат бұрын
Suzuki DR-Z4S is in a class of it's own in terms of engine longevity between service, more oil volume, compression ratio being lower. The Next closest thing is the Honda CRF450RL but that's a modified motocross engine with the typical low oil volume and nowhere near the maintenance slackness of the Suzuki. Otherwise you're stuck with European 350's or 500 high strung high maintenance. The Honda XR650L isn't sold anywhere except USA where it's grandfathered into past emissions. KLR650 is a tank, and gutless. DR650 is like the XR650L in terms of sales and location. It's sort of making the Japanese 400-500cc dual sport/adv market slimmer and slimmer. Hence the moving to 400-450cc ADV bikes lately, which I think have more utility for the average person than a dual sport 2x4 plank seat vibrating buzz box.
