Since the very first DRZ400 was sold over 20 years ago, owners have asked suzuki to fix one thing. The gearbox ! 20 years, and they couldn't fix the one thing it needed. 38hp and riding modes 😂, no 6 speed😂,traction😂.

EFI is definitely nice (but frankly, I never had problems with carbs). No increase to 6 speed (STILL a 5 speed) which was a frequent request by many users/potential users and HP and Torque (and their peak value rpms) basically the same values as the old model, yet the bike appears to be 15lbs/7kg HEAVIER than the older bike. The only reason I'm waiting for this to come out is so that the price drops on the used DRZ400s that are likely to have similar performance, but less complexity (do I really need different modes on a 38hp motor???) and importantly less weight. I'm sure if I rode it I'd feel differently and I'd be shocked if it wasn't a good bike but based on what I see so far why, but why is this particularly interesting or even news? It appears to be a mild refresh at best, (bringing it into the 2020s and current emissions rules), and is candidly a bit disappointing at least from my perspective. (The S now appears to have inverted forks so that's something (arguably more aesthetic for most riders than anything) I suppose) I suspect this is going to be a fun bike, but at least for me I'm hoping it means used DRZ400s at a lower price :)

WOW! This is awesome! The internet has been speculating about a new DRZ after US Patent documents were discovered back in September. I told me dealer I wanted to get on the waiting list. They said "we haven't heard anything about a new DRZ - Suzuki hasn't change it in forever, and likely won't". I said "I still want on the waiting list if a new one comes!" I'm going to stop in there today and talk to them more about it.

More evidence that euro 5 regulations are making bikes worse, the new bike is down about 1hp and 1nm of torque compared to the old bike, plus its gained about 7kg of weight, and no we don't need rider modes and traction control on a bike with 40hp, and I assume it will be more expensive than the older model too, I would take the old bike hands down.

@benjy288 3 ай бұрын
Exactly, some will blame it on regulations, but I still don't think it adds up, the new bike weighs about 7kg more, ABS might add 2kg at most, so that would mean the new euro 5 full exhaust would weigh 5kg more than the full exhaust on the old model, which already weighed 5kg, and I don't buy it that a full euro 5 exhaust for the drz would weigh 10kg, plus the new model has a slightly smaller tank, so where's the extra weight coming from?

I half agree with you and I guess it's okay if the price stays the same, and we can get a little extra power out of the new FI system without new issues... I did like it for being a simple/ cheap/ reliable bike (10 years ago) and I will keep my eye on it, but I just can't F off and act excited for little more than new emissions management. I definitely won't be buying or recommending the new DRZ any time soon. Go ahead and roast me but I moved on from a '04 DRZ to a '04 450-EXC and that's what I would recommend for a cheap bike (I paid about half of what I bought and sold the DRZ for and it had about half the miles and hours). 450RL is noticeably heavier and pricier... Sure old EXCs might not have the stellar reliability track record or the huge parts availability, but mine hasn't yet skipped a beat and it performs better in every way hands down and I already feel like I got my $$$ out of it if it blows up tomorrow (not too shabby for the price of a few common mods). I guess that's my long way of saying (as a long time DRZ fan) "now that the DRZ finally has some competition I can't help wanting to see Suzuki go toe to toe, or outright crushing it."
@Wooskii1
@Wooskii1 2 ай бұрын
@@chrro466 The argument for a 6th gear is about street capability, and almost nobody can ride a bike to its full capacity. The 3x3 mod is popular for a reason. Let's not pretend the DRZ is like a 'Busa with more power than the average rider can put down, because it clearly is not.

It is pretty simple. A six speed box would require basically a completely new engine, not the refurbished old engine. That would put the bike in a price range that would hurt sales. Hopefully they have spread the ratios enough that (with the broader powerband) it accomplishes nearly the same thing. The fuel injection is nice but I would have liked the option of paying for or not paying for the ABS and traction controls. Those alone are going to add a grand to the cost and for me would be a pass. I’m looking to see the new bikes cost over 10K. The upside is the left over ‘24 DRZs may get discounted and that is how they’ll get my money.

This revamp was moreso to be allowed to sell it in europe via euro 5 emissions, and other countries that require abs to be standard. Id assume keeping the 5 speed was to keep the case the same reducing costs, drzs are still manufactured in japan as opposed to competition in thailand/india (crf300/klx300/ktm390)

for those who feel that 6 speed is superior to 5 speed, unless if you are planning to go 140km+ it’s rather unnecessary. Bikes like this is better suited with 5 speed - with thick sprocket and larger gear ratio to transfer the power better - you have wider range of powerband. Suzuki knows what they are doing.

No 6th gear was the main reason I sold mine. I thought the first 5 gears were pretty much geared perfectly for the power (after the common airflow/ fuel mods) so I feel like stretching them enough to make a noticable difference over 60 mph (where a 6th gear is needed) would definitely be just as noticeable (not in a good way) under that speed.
