Motocross Action tests the ALL NEW 2022 Honda CRF250R in Oregon at Mountain View Motocross Park. Honda flew up assistant editor Josh Mosiman for two days to get familiar with the all new motorcycle they are offering. The Honda 250 enters the 2022 model year with all new frame, new engine, new subframe, new body work, new single sided exhaust, large capacity air box, a claimed weight reduction of 8 pounds, Pirelli tires instead of Dunlop, updated mapping, and more. The goal for the 2022 Honda CRF250R this year was Lighter.Stronger.Faster. Honda was looking to drop some weight and put some more pep in its step to compete in the 250 class. The 250 class is all about horsepower and every manufacturer is looking for extra ponies to be the top dog. While most of the changes are carried over from the Honda CRF450R update that happened in 2021, the 250 did not receive the hydraulic clutch. We break down the bike, give you the details, and our initial impression after two days of testing on some interesting track conditions in the Pacific Northwest.

Not sure if it will save weight since you would need an electronic throttle body that would add weight back in. Also it may or may Not need a larger alternator for the added electrical demand. But idk how many amps the current alternator puts out.

With the new break through in lithium sulfur batteries it will be interesting to see where dirt bikes will be in 5 years. 3 times the capacity of lithium ion and 3 times lighter. These emission regulations will kill the sport if it doesn’t evolve.

Red Moto sells a 2 gallon tank for the 450 that should fit. You might need an adaptor plate for the fuel pump.

Interesting that they picked that track. No one has complained about the non hydraulic clutch, but if the reviewers have anything to underrate the Austrian bikes, Honda just left the door WIDE open. I didn’t think any reviewers would rate it above those bikes anyway, that’s obvious, but now there is no way in hell it’s gonna win or even come close.

It has been a long while, in fact I don't even remember if they ever had a unicam for the 250 4t!!?? Now the 150 & 450 still have the unicam engine to this day. :) And that 2021/2022 Honda 450 engine is a BEAST!!!

I wouldn’t worry about the dyno numbers, the Yz250f doesn’t produce great dyno numbers compared to all the other bikes but on track total different feel
