Regarding the competition, the updated Husky 401 would be a close competitor since it is larger then the previous gen. But that Duke 390 engine is more suited to spirited riding compared to the Triumph. You'll need to rev the Husky to get to the power, while the Triumph delivers 80% torque from 3k rpm. Also, RE has started testing the Hunter with the Sherpa 450 engine from the new Himalayan. This would be on par with the Speed 400 in terms of power and probably be its main rival.

Will be getting one in July... Been looking forward to this one... 2 bikes I considered, the coming 2024 KTM Duke 390 or This one... I was surprised by the price, looks like it'll be the speed 400... Only thing that'll change my mind if Yamaha comes up with a 300cc or 400cc version of the XSR 150... I was really hoping they place the MT03 engine in a XSR 150 frame...

My first comment is about the high gearing. Some reviewers have mentioned this and I found it to be true when I test-drove a 400 today. the sudden surge of power taking off in 1st gear and the shift to second. No problem like that with my RE 350. It is smooth and gives me the feeling of being in control. The Triumph is jerky in acceleration. None of the reviewers, and only one commentor that I have seen so far has mentioned the possibility of acquiring a lower-ratio rear sprocket to smooth out the acceleration and also to allow the engine to run at lower rpm's at highway speed. Secondly about the maintenance period. The fact that Triumph recommends 10,000 Km. between maintenance check-ups does not tell me their bike is better. It could be that Triumph stock-holders want to save money where they can and increase profits without regard to the potential harm that could befall the customers who put their faith in the company.. For myself, if I decide to go with the Triumph I will certainly get the oil changed more often than 10,000 km and have the chain tension checked and the tire pressure set to factory standards more often than that. Any engine is going to have metal wearing off of the rings during the first couple hundred miles and the brakes have to set in and if there are flaws in the tires they should be found out sooner rather than later. It doesn't matter that you have a nice red paint job if the engine seizes up or the cut-out switch activates itself at some critical time.

I'm planning to get Yamaha xsr 155 in April. I already set my mind to that bike but boy speed 400 made me think twice. It's about 300k in the Ph vs 182k xsr 155. There's not much difference in price and speed 400 is expressway legal and the fuel consumption is actually fair for this bike that you can use it for everyday ride. I don't know about how the maintenance would cost though, because xsr 155 is such cheap bike to maintain. Damn this this is difficult.

Speedo error at at 160kmph where GPS speed is 140kmph is way too much. Even my 2013 CB400F speedo at 170kmph is still at 160kmph GPS

@@the_winged_helm The only RE I would ever begin to consider is a used Interceptor. And only if I was expecting to do a tremendous amount of long range riding. The bigger engine Interceptor running at lower RPM would be suitable for that. The seat would have to be changed 1st, adding to the cost.

@the_winged_helm9 ай бұрын
The engines are very different between the Triumph 400s and the KTM 390s. The Triumph has 80% torque available from 3k rpm. It is smooth till 6k rpm, then starts getting vibey. The KTM starts delivering torque post 5k rpm, below which it has vibes. Post 6k rpm, it is smooth. The Triumph delivers power linearly while the KTM has more peaky power delivery which is suited for more spirited riding.
