I bought a black one in May ( 4 months ago) after looking at them on line and im magazines and thought yep its a good looking bike and as im getting old now and want smaller lighter bikes ill at it to my garagem but at 39 bhp wasnt sure if i would enjoy it, but bought it anyway ..... the result, ...shocked, how can i be having so much fun out of 39 bhp, its brilliant, wants to be flicked around and makes you really push it ..... cant recommend enough, for anyone, dont let begginers have all the fun. I am more of a sport bike guy, and I totally agree with you about the gold anodized forks. I know looks are subjective, but IMO that gold color just looks out of place on most street bikes. It has just become associated with performance suspensions. While I'm on a rant, I'm over the flat paint as well. And I've got an aviator (flat) grey Ducati Monster. But I had to get that to get the red wheels. Some day I'll give it a custom paint job. Great review. Some of the super pros are fun to watch, but you represent 99% of most of us riders.

I agree with you 100%. Dark grey forks would look better. And all paint should be semi-gloss or gloss, except for the exhaust pipe which could be flat grey or flat black. I hope that at some point Triumph or a third party offer a softer seat, maybe one inch thicker. Hopefully, someday someone will offer an instrument option with twin round gauges. I am 71 years old now and most often ride in town so this 400 looks like a much better fit for me than the 900 or 1200. I have loved Triumphs since I was 16 and this newest one has re-ignited my passion.

Thursday I did buy one after a test drive, made my mind up in five minutes. OK it's not like my Trident 660 or the FZ1 Fazer or any of my other bikes but it drives really relaxed. Good brakes and handling, engine dose not disturb, just doing his work and that I found it dose excellent. Has the same HP as my 650 Mash Xride and it's 7kg lighter. Ordered the blue one because here in France at Triumph Tours you can order a red one but there is no certain delivery date. @2ndcornetsАй бұрын
I own a Meteor and enjoy riding it BUT it is pretty slow and heavy compared with the Triumph, and is restricted to run out of puff altogether at about 70mph which is just plain daft. Any 1970's mid cc bike [even the Yamaha RD250 I had then] would blow it into the weeds. So I may well swap to a Triumph.
@andrewmundenandcadfellmast462410 ай бұрын
Thats much more like it should be. Just had a look at the specs, and its virtually twice the power of the RE350. Now, Im no boy racer (way too old for that stuff), but I always thought the RE was seriously lacking, whereas this little Triumph looks like an absolute ripper. Particularly for new riders. Many years ago I had, as a second bike for city commuting, a Suzuki GS 450twin. At the time, Learners and provisional licence riders in Australia were limited to 250cc, and I thought that was a shame, as the little Suzi would have been perfect for a beginner to learn on. The rules here have changed a lot since then, but I still think that size and performance are ideal for newer riders, those whose main riding is commuting, or folks who are not interested in big powerful bikes, for various reasons. Looking at its specs, its virtually the same as the Speed 400. Brilliant 😊, and it looks gorgeous too 👍🏼

Having not been riding long (I've only had my Royal Enfield Metor 350 for 8 months and my A2 Licence the same amount of time). I went to my local triumph dealer and tested the speed 400 and scrambler 400X. Needless to say, I've part exchanged my Royal Enfield and decided to go for the speed 400. I'm also 6 ft 1 , but I found the speed more comfortable and stable than the scrambler. But I think that's just down to rider preference. It was the extra power that really sold me. On the meteor, you really have to plan out your overtakes in advance, whereas the speed has a lot more pull and exudes confidence. Loved the meteor but think this bike will be mine for the forseeable.

I didn’t find it to vibrate much at all

Now days I see these bikes quite often on Indian roads and the only thing that I personally don't like is that this bike looks really small in flesh. I haven't seen scrambler variant up close but I feel that bike would be a better option for people above 6ft.

The scrambler is visibly bigger with the bigger front tyre, taller stance etc. I found it perfect for my height

I think with all these great reviews on the 400s, the price is only going to go one way, and that's up. Better get your orders in quick.

I want a test drive, maybe my second Triumph.

I did a test drive, it's a really good bike. Relaxed to drive, good handling and brakes.

I did buy one in blue, after a test drive of one hour.

How does this fare, feel and drivability wise to Royal Enfield's Hunter 350? I will be taking my MSF very soon and one of these will be my first bike. My gut tells me the RE, being $1k less would be a better "knock around" bike to learn on and take advanced rider classes with it, rack up some miles and experience and then snag the Triumph a year later once riding has become second nature, and just own both of them. I like them both, after all. But maybe that would be a redundancy, and I should opt for plan B: go for the triumph 400 learn all the important rider skills on that over a year or two, and hopefully in that year or two Royal Enfield finally builds a classic 650 and I get that for a second bike. lol Thanks for a great run down of this beauty of a bike! Triumph and RE's are the bees knees, for sure!

Excellent review! I would love to own one of these bikes. Only a moment before your video popped up, i had just finished watching a review of the same bike by UserNameKate. Were you both on the same junket for this? Cheers and happy Easter, Glyn

The stock exhaust sounds pretty good, love the deep tone. Seems super smart, but I'm more interested in the scrambler version. I'm thinking of a sets of wheels one with knobbies and the other with normal street rubber.)
