Study what a Tourbillon is. Those are intricate works of art, each one of them. They're used here because it's mechanical, has been around since 1880's and they're unaffected by gravity. So the entire cluster set is unaffected by the gravity of the car being slung around a track or 250Mph on the Autobahn.

Too many roadworks and dual lane sections where you have to dodge people overtaking trucks. Think of how holding a piece of cardboard creates air resistance when you try and flap it by it's wide surface, and how low air drag it produces if you swing the thin profile through the air
