2022 Yamaha YZ125 vs 2021 YZ125 two-strokes: How much better is the new YZ against the older model?

Yamaha's hugely revamped 2022 YZ125 two-stroke goes head-to-head against a 2021 YZ125 to see how different the new model is to ride.
Former British 125 champ Dave Willet compares the bone-stock 2022 model with a lightly modified and well set-up '21 and finds a simple change of rear sprocket to suit the track conditions can work wonders.

Great info! Got a 21, 22 was unavailable. I'm old and ride woods plus MX, I don't feel so bad about taking the 21 ! Was impressed with power, and was thinkinking of smaller rear sprocket to mellow the hit and Spread the power a bit. Have you polished the exhaust port yet? My 2016 yz 250 needed a lot of sanding to blend the power valve ports. Get some grease on all the suspension bearings too, it runs like a sherco. Super low end, but hard to kick over compared to the 125! Cool to have pros giving out good info! Braapppp

I have a 2005 yz125 and I would not get a 2022 just because it’s not working better right form the start you can make 2hp and not have them problems right for the start

What gearing did you settle on the 22’ 125? 47 or 48?

Don't buy a 125 cc, 2 stroke ,your to heavy ,buy a 250 cc ,2 stroke like the yz250
