To all responders to this guy: I never heard of a biker having an accident for lane splitting or filtering... And it's really the only reason to have a bike: filtering. Bikers gets into accidents because people chaning lanes without indicator, cars not stopping at stop signs, cars turning without indicators and such. The only reason why they maken it illegal is because there are car drivers that gets gealous of bikers not getting stuck as they do in cars, so they pulled out an excuse and maken it illegal. 40 years ago, the OPP (Canada, Ontario Provincial Police) were so very polite and beyond reproach. The community respect they amassed was incredible. That takes generations to build. There are enough good folks out there that want to be cops that we should not tolerate any bad attitudes or reprimands for officers. If the police forces and unions want to earn respect for their members, then set a much higher standard for behavior, and ditch those that will even potentially hurt the reputation. That level of required performance will become the known standard, and those who feel like they may act unwisely, or power-trip will consider alternate careers for fear of getting booted.

I think only a couple states actually say it is either legal or illegal. The rest doesnt say one way or the other. Arkansas, last i knew, doesnt say it is legal or not.

I'm amazed at how many of you riders cut between cars and weave in and out of traffic going 20 and 30 MPH faster than everyone else and then get pissed when someone doesn't see you and cuts you off. I do pay attention and luckily have never cut off a bike, but once almost pulled into the left lane to pass when I noticed a biker approaching well in excess of 100 MPH. I yanked back in about the time he passed me like I was standing still. I was doing around 70. I suppose if I had cut him off and he somehow managed to swerve without killing himself or me he would have come back around and broke my mirror off. Morons!
