Albert Biermann is such a legend in the automotive industry, and the fact that Hyundai brought him in showed that they were serious about beefing up their high performance N division. I mean the fact that he worked at BMW's M division for 18 years is nothing to sneeze at, he knows what he's doing, he knows fun driving dynamics, and amazing performance.

If they wanted to they could rule the 'average consumer performance car world' with these products. What's standing in their way is their own dealer network. Love to see them set hard prices on N cars, that is, pricing agreements that would forbade dealers from markups. They couldn't sell these cars fast enough if that were to happen. Right now a lot of people won't touch them solely due to not wanting to pay insanely greedy dealers.

I've also seen journalists or KZbinrs criticized the high performance SUVs are too stiff, which is nonsense. For example the X5M and X6M are two of the most successful products in this segments. Like he said, the real customers want it to be stiff and sporty like that. And I also like the first part about the market potential. From my experience I agree with you Moto man, I think only high HP luxury SUV sells like X6M. But we also didn't believe that back then before they came out. I can't speak of driving dynamics as I yet to drive an N car. I'd like to see more splash of colors inside to further distinguish the N cars from the regular garden variety Hyundais. Have the seatbelts (I could've sworn one of the Ns have them) & contrast stitching in Performance Blue to match the steering wheel buttons. Maybe have the handbrake lever and the shifter boots wrapped in synthetic alcantara. Small touches like that go along away, see Porsche GTS cars for an example. As for the exterior, maybe have the brake calipers in N's performance blue instead of red. Oh and of course, a sunroof. Excellent work like always, M. I enjoyed listening to Mr Biermann again.

The fact that you can suspend NGS and then re-engage it in a quicker interval than prior will work well on a short twisty track. BRAVO‼️ Previous N’s would have you wait in the timeout box until you could use it again which then becomes a whole short track strategy on which straightaways or long turns you care to use it in. For daily-ability or street-ability; a glass top would open the cabin to that free spirited feel Kona N delivers with the added.visual input of speed passing that corner of your eye as you carve a forrest winding road or slip briskly through a tree line street. Mr. Biermann is a great engineer and nearly as good a marketeer. The Kona N is an impressive vehicle but it is not a crossover, much less an SUV. It's a hatchback and a hot one at that. The fact that its ground clearance of 6.3" is more than the 5.4" of a MK7.5 GTi doesn't make it an SUV. But the market analysts at Hyundai are well aware that the magic term "SUV" is far more appealing in the marketplace, especially in the US, than "hatchback." They're likewise well aware that the Veloster is an unusual vehicle with narrow niche appeal. And while it's still for sale in its "N" trim, it will almost certainly disappear within a year or two.
@JustinKelly2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It is a hatchback for those who may not be a "true" enthusiast. Kona rides higher, power seat sits higher (Than manual equivalent), and is priced higher than Elantra N. But it has the magic "SUV/CUV" name and feel (mostly from seating position). Give me the I30 N please.
@stephenhendricks1032 жыл бұрын
@@JustinKelly I'm not into defining "true" enthusiasts. They come in a variety of flavors. And as an owner of several GTIs over the years, I'm impressed by the Kona N. I wouldn't trade my current GTI (nor the MK8) for one but it's an impressive hatchback on (very short) stilts. As for the i30N, if you can distinguish the Elantra N from the i30N, I'd like to know the differences.

Where is my Hyundai Tuscani N? Supercar looks with attainable performance cost....
@JustinKelly2 жыл бұрын
Here is where I sit from a long time Hyundai Enthusiast perspective (Before N was a thing). I love to see the ongoing development from the N team with new models but are they giving us what we really want? I would argue close, but not quite. Some are small tweaks that could be done in packaging and equipment but others are much more drastic. The Elantra N is priced correctly and packaged fairly well so I give them props for that. But why does the front need to have the look it does? Finish painting the front end and call it a day. In terms of the Kona N, it really bothers me hearing Albert describe the justification for not lowering it! Here in the US we won't have a true hot hatch once the Veloster is gone (and that wasn't even a good example). So us begging for the I30 N (PLEASE!) are left with the Kona N which rides too high, seating position is too tall, and is SMALLER on the inside than the I30 N not to mention the interior looks/feels cheaper than the European counterpart. Then there is the pricing of the Kona N which is more than the Elantra which won't help its case either unless people actually buy into the marketing over time. Overall, it just frustrates me to see how Hyundai (and North America) has abandoned the hatchback for these CUV's. The Elantra GT was just gaining its stride in the final two model years and people love the car! (I run the owners group) It was truly packaged almost perfectly and priced very competitively (with a little discount) not to mention got the European design and interior feel. People actually miss the car when they get rid of it. This is what enthusiasts want but I fear we will be forced to look at alternatives that will come in true hatchback form in the future but all together the true hatchback is dying over here...
@borisrz30802 жыл бұрын
I regret not getting the Elantra GT N-Line before being discontinued. Disappoints me that Hyundai didn’t use the Elantra GT as their first N model in North America. Was the closest thing that resembled the i30N with great practically unlike the Veloster. Veloster N is a nice looking vehicle but it isn’t practical design like the Elantra GT.

Well I love Hyundais effort with N and could listen to mr. Biermann for days, but I’m not sure he’s right about the stiffness of the suspension. At least in Germany nearly any i30N customer drives in „normal“ suspension mode (even on the Nürburgring nordschleife). N mode is only suitable for gp tracks. I guess a softer setting, instead of N stiffness would do the job. On the other hand, I guess N has done a lot of market research to gather evidence for mr. Biermann‘s statement…
