Very nice design, looks like he used an old outboard motor bottom attached to hull like a sail drive for yachts and used the existing gearbox in the outboard ( possible a separate gearbox). He has a separate marine pump to cool the exhaust , that's under the round disc. A rubber impeller type. It would have been easier to use a simple electric pump off the battery. What's great is he found a simple way to use the cheaper vertical shaft drive motors instead of a horz shaft that would require a shaft drive and the complications of that. If he had mounted the engine further forward and used a longer belt the boat would run flatter with a better trim. A square stern model would probably run faster and have more buoyancy in the stern. Great design except the outboard leg out the back would be vulnerable to damage in shallow water. In Dutch canals no problem! Cheers Warren

Sharron Clark Well maybe, but I have studied the 2 videos quite a while and have been designing systems all my life, done a lot of reverse engineering and been a lifelong boater so I'm not commenting without a good background on what he did. He did some clever things I have not fully worked out why , like an an apparent keel cooler tube as well as cooling water for the engine to avoid the original fan system but those details are not obvious , a tee off the exhaust cooling water goes to a casting under the engine at 7:40 , any thoughts? Cheers Warren

@@CheersWarren Hello, sorry to butt in. I have to agree with your observations warp, it is indeed a bottom end from an outboard attached to the hull. Very interesting solution to keep things mechanically simple!

luckyJohn1994 Please help your self to join in, I 'm interested to hear other comments or thought on this project. It's easy to be a critic but this guy actually got out there and made something that actually worked. And worked well. I saw a simple small lawn engine one right under the stern seat of a small wooden sailboat. Connected to a prop that cane right out the back. Just a simple direct drive. You could hardly see it and made a great get you home engine without having an ugly outboard to spoil the lines of the pretty sailing boat. I love that sort of clever yet simple stuff . Cheers Warren

Does anyone know how far back the propeller needs to be on the canoe? I’m trying to build one of these myself and I was wondering if it mattered where the lower outboard and engine sat.

At our canoe, the propeller is underneat the shifting lever👍👍

That is cool and your buddy likes it too. Reverse and it turns good too. Doesn't seem to be too heavy with the lawnmower engine and the rooster tail is awesome. Thumbs up

Greetings from Philippines, Sir your boat is quite Amazing, I wanna know the set up about the forward and reverse mechanism if possible thank you so Much Sir,
@tjm39005 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure he is using the lower part of an old outboard motor leg. This would give him a sealed prop and forward and reverse gears. The drive to is would just be a pulley off the motor.

Andreas Hollander hi see my suggestions on his design. I would suggest for Kenya check out the 'mud motor designs' similar to the Indonesian long tales but use simple Honda motors . Like this kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6K9n2aafN6Wiqs. Cheers Warren

Good idea, BUT you can never make it go fast! The reason is that a canoe hull is not a planning hull. In order for a boat to go fast it has to get up on a plane!
