M/Y OLOH departs Coinjock, North Carolina, bound for Hampstead, North Carolina with overnight stops in Belhaven and Oriental. Part 4 of our Southbound journey from New York includes crossing the Albermarle Sound (which can be a nasty body of water), a couple of great dinners in Belhaven, a cool place to provision in Oriental and a detailed look at how to approach Harbour Village Marina in Hampstead from the ICW.

Harbor Village marina, I pulled in there 15 yrs ago on a classic 100ft fantail motor yacht. I squeezed in the channel and stayed at the fuel dock for the night. Next morning nobody had left and they were up on deck starting at me, I ask dockmaster whats up? He said they're all 2aiting cause they want to see how I'm getting out if there! Had a good laugh and then an applause as I sprung the boat 180 off the dock so I didn't have to back all the way out thanks for the memories good vids!

Watching you guys pull into Harbour Village Marina in Hampstead, NC brought back wonderful memories for me. My wife and I owned a 1988 32’ Carver Mariner back in the day, and HVM was her home. Still miss that boat, even these many years later. Thanks for sharing!

Well - Admiral, Capitan, Galley Stewart and Ambassador of Cheer, this is for sure your best work on MY Oloh!! Love the stops the narration and your happy upbeat take on the cruising lifestyle. The editing on this one was very nice and I am sure you spent a ton of time getting it to this quality. Hope everyone is holding up and looking forward to the next episode. :) Cheers TK

Just recently started to follow you and your adventures. I boat on Lake Erie and dream of doing the ICW trip when I retire in the next few years. Look forward to see you passing thru Wrightsville Beach, NC since I grew up there back in the 1970's. My Dad's Chris Craft was docked just south of the drawbridge on the east side of the ICW. Trying to catch up on all your videos and I am really enjoying watching them. Thanks for sharing!

Forgot how cool Harbour Village Marina is, in 2017 I made an offer on one of the houses on the hill behind you when you were walking and talking about how nice it is. The seller backed out and took the house off market.

Speaking of Jason doing his job, does he hold it until going ashore? You should have stopped in Beaufort to grab a steak dinner at Ribeyes, fantastic steaks.
@OLOH
@OLOH 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Jasper does hold it until we're ashore. We try to keep our travel days to a max of around six or seven hours, both for us and him, but he has no problem with the occasional longer days when they come around. We still have not potty-trained him to go on deck as many do but we may as he gets older. We have stopped in Beaufort many times and we will be back!

What kind of dog is the Nobel Jasper?
@OLOH
@OLOH 2 жыл бұрын
Jasper is a rescue pup whose mom was a pitbull and dad, according to the DNA test (and it makes sense), a German Wire Haired Pointer mix.

I am curious about what arrangements you make for the dog to relieve himself while underway. I see many people cruising with their bets but this has never been explained. Thanks.
@OLOH
@OLOH 4 жыл бұрын
While many cruisers train their dogs to "go" onboard in designated areas, we haven't gotten there yet with Jasper. But with most of our cruising days kept under six hours it has never been a problem. We do have occasional longer days, as long as twelve hours, but they are rare and have never been an issue (he won't leave the house all day when it's raining so we know he can handle it voluntarily). When we anchor out it is always in a place where we can safely get to shore for him. He always seems to know on those early morning walks when we are getting set to shove off that he may not get to go again for a while and fully takes care of business. All that said, we know from friends with dogs that can go days without going ashore that it is never too late to train your pup to go on board. And we do plan to take this on with Jasper to ensure he is always comfortable and to give us more flexibility when getting ashore is difficult. Our friends wrote a terrific article about all of this here: www.takingpaws.com/p/blog-page.html Thanks for watching - cheers!

@@OLOH Thanks for that. I know many that train their dogs to use a "pee pad" - basically a diaper put on the floor. I was guessing thats what most folks do but wasn't sure. In any event Im glad you can have your companion with you when you travel. The family isn't quite complete without every member.

What does Oloh mean? And what was your normal cruising speed?
@OLOH
@OLOH 3 жыл бұрын
Hey LouLou - While OLOH can do 17/18 knots all day in the right conditions, we typically love to cruise at around 10 knots. As far as what OLOH means - your clue is 🎵Let's get together and feel alright🎵. Got it?

Gotta love when a moron not only doesn't slow down and overtake another properly but plows past at a speed where they get the absolute biggest Wake possible from their hull. These people aren't oblivious they just don't care. It's sad to say but if you let them piss you off you could stay mad every day. They get theirs surely because life isn't kind to stupid people.

I've been noticing a trend in many ICW cruising videos. Most people with fancy looking sport fishers or modern yachts (like that sea ray) don't seem to understand educate or don't care about others and think they are the king of the waters (that is untill their high HP MAN diesels fail after 600 hours)
@OLOH
@OLOH 4 жыл бұрын
It is sad but true. And we hate to generalize because there are owners and captains of those types of boats who are conscientious and courteous. But we and our cruising friends do notice that, more often than not, when there is a lack of courtesy on the waterways, those are the culprits. And it has been this way as long as we have been boating.
