Hi, just wanted to clarify, at around 3:11 where you show the scales, wouldn't it be the other way around from what you mentioned as 1st setting is 10x , meaning 1volt on screen will translate to 100 mA actual current in circuit and 2nd setting (100x) would mean 1volt on screen is 10 mA

Great vid Pete The Amp clamp is the most important tool todays tech should have and understand and USE! IMHO todays tech needs to have his (or her) own scope A vantage pro should do it. The shop should buy the pico. or veres for bigger jobs But I may be wrong Best of luck friend.

Thanks for this great video and explaining so well. I have a picoscope and a very similar 60amps amp clamp. just wondering could i use this clamp for relative compression test and see the info on voltage scale.Or will i do damage to the scope or amp clamp???

You don't need an amp clamp to perform a relative compression test. Watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZiaeZmshth7fZo

Pete i have a snap on verus and u were correct it was scope aliasing, to stop it happening either turn on 'PEAK DETECT" OR SHORTEN THE TIMEBASE, cheers sandy

The minor display “glitch” is definitely not because of aliasing . Aliasing happens when a scope’s sample rate is slow relative to the waveform pattern change. With the relatively slow time base used in this video, aliasing is not an issue. With the trigger set to occur in the center of the horizontal display area you will see that little “glitch” as the scope retriggers. To view a “more normal”, glitch free display, set the scope so that the trigger timing happens on the extreme left edge of the display area.

I love you for sharing all expertise with us THANK YOU so much its really priceless for a broke old man like myself lol I just have one question if I may ask,Is there a certain way/direction that fused fuse buddy has to go in the fuse reseptacle ? I have just learned from another video that power is only supplied to one side of fuse box inlets !

Which amp clamp is that in your video? I'm looking to replace my antique scope that bit the dust recently - have a small hand-held scope in mind but needing a clamp to help diagnose wiper motors, blower motors and other fun stuff for restorations I do.

Pete, maybe you could introduce or simulate a fault into the pattern you are testing. Could it be possible to unplug one the coils and put a resistor in to show a difference in the pattern?

Good idea! As the series progresses, and we start taking deeper looks into the diagnosis of these systems, I'll try to make that happen.

Thanks, It is good to show the bad with the good. I dont know if you guys have the snap on wave form generator available but if you do that is a great way to practice using your scope something you might want to share.

I believe your exactly right that is where the scope is starting to redraw the picture when you see the blip. If you adjust the sample rate it will go away at least minimize it

Hello Pete!!! Yesterday I was using my scope yesterday to get some amperage waveforms on a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. My fuel pump waveforms using the a fuse buddy looked weird. I wasn't sure if I had the correct scope settings. Would you be able to look at them? I use the Verus software.

Sir you did not show to us begginers where to connect the positive and negative probe from the amp clamp itself. Is it the negative probe of current clamp will goes to negative input on scope? And the positive probe of the clamp will also goes to whatsoever channel would like to connect? Hope you will pay attention for my question sir thank you god bless you sir😊

There are a number of phenomena that we need to reflect on regarding oscilloscopes, image overlay, aliasing ,floating earths among 1 or 2 others, there is an excellent website, and tutorials available esp here in the U.K. called 'TECH TOPICS ' who is an expert on all things related to scopes, BTW, i'm not in any way connected with them, though i have all the material and training books that i bought previously from there. BLESS 😇

Pete...In the Verus guided components area, I noticed that the fuel pump amperage waveforms should look just like the alternator ripple waveforms. Is this just a coincidence? Thanks!!!

We'll be taking a closer look at the current ramp on an individual coil soon. This episode was already getting a little long and I wanted to focus on one common use for the probe - comparing multiple signals to each other, looking for the "odd man out". Thanks for posting your request!

I think what you are referring to ("...look like a chair") is the voltage waveform. Pete was measuring the amperage waveforms.

There should be less introduction and more applications, if you are looking at this channel we have a idea what these tools are. Fine tune their use, real world situations. I can appreciate your education on automotive repair, so don't worry so much about dotting the eyes and crossing the tees, let's get down to how to fix it!, thank you 4 your time
