WOW!!!!!!! I love your videos and insight. Took my 2022 Ram 3500 HO to the dealer at 67,700 miles for some fluid service and an overall check as we've been traveling the country for the last year and have hauled overall 25,000 miles. Dealer told me I needed a "Diesel Emissions Service: Due at 67k miles - $1,595.88". I told him I didn't remember seeing that in the manual. He told me I need to get it done or I could go into limp mode. Told them I didn't want it. Headed over to MotorCity Mechanic and sure enough. What a scam. Thank you for all you do!

New to the diesel community. Just bought my first one a 2019 Ram 2500 Cummins. I have been watching lots of videos on what to do and not do with my new diesel truck. Your channel is by far the best, straight talk and good information. I had to have warranty work done, the cable on the EGR bypass valve broke and in turn ruined the EGR valve. Both replaced under warranty. When I picked it up the service person said if nothing else goes bad we will see you at the 67,500 mile service and clean the EGR cooler and valve and replace the CCV. If not for this video I would have just brought it in and had them do it, he said it was about a $1000.00. Thank you for all the information you give out you just saved me a lot of money I can use elsewhere.

You saved me a TON of money. I got the dreaded "Perform Service" message right on cue on my '13 Ram 3500 Cummins. I called the dealer to get a quote and was told it costs $1200-$1500 dollars and it was the "rubber stamp" you mentioned to clean the EGR valve, cooler and filter replacement. I picked up a PCV filter at my local O'Reilly's for about $135 and replaced the filter myself. Took me about 20 minutes and all I needed was the tool to remove the wire clips and the 8mm socket. The filter was saturated so it needed to be changed. Did the procedure to clear the message and presto! All done. Thanks for the help!

The company I work for is has its own private mechanics for its fleet myself and couple others. I think that we may be over doing it when these intervals come out we do the CCV, egr cooler, the crossover tube, egr valve, the plenum (egr air flow control valve removed aka throttle body), and the heater grid we even go as far as to scrap some of the soot in the intake manifold and vacuum it out. All our diesels trucks range from ram3500-5500 cab and chassis.

Solid bro, don't see many other people educating people about this interval on these trucks!!! Dealer tried selling my buddy the full service on his 2014 at 67,500, and at the crazy price of $2,000. I told him to tell them to F off and that at those prices, and that he would almost be able to pay for the cost of a brand new valve and cooler at his "second" cleaning interval, which is actually supposed to be his first cleaning interval at 135,000.

Great video here, thank you for taking the time to share it! I just saw a recent video on a MY21 Ram Cummins where the dealer tried to get him for EGR valve cleaning at his 75k mile service. I noted that in my MY23 owners manual, all it says for the 75k service was the CCV filter, and nothing about cleaning the EGR. Interesting thing was that he took off his EGR valve and it did not look that dirty at all for 76k miles. Now I know why.

He says no don't need to soak the egr cooler and valve...you don't even have to clean the cooler. The valve has 2 little ports that get cleaned with an appropriate sized drill bit that you just spin between your fingers. He said they've never had a problem and then you can reset the code.

I'm with you. 2015 I did the EGR cleaning too. Valve was partially sticking and was very sooted up. If not part of the service, wait for it to fail? BTW- Got my parts from Geno's and saved big $$.

Completely correct EGR needs to be clean I have big trucks got rid of some of them maxforce 13 blew it out every 50,000 miles cheaper than a new EGR which is 3500 just the part spend an hour and a half two hours cleaning it it's golden I also do oil changes more frequently less carbon in the exhaust highly recommend aftermarket oil filters the cleaner to keep the oil the better off you are

I have a 2016 International 4300 with the Cummins 6.7/ Allison trans. I was told, "bullet proof combo". 10K in repairs later, learned the hard way on service intervals. 😔 Bought the truck with 40K miles. I did oil changes every 5k miles along with 2 fuel filter, air filter and crankcase filter every 3rd oil chamge. At 100k miles, started hearing what sounded like dry bearing squealing noise. Replaced all accessory bearings, fan, tensioner and alternator. Noise still persisted on and off. At 120k Turbo went " SEE YA!" 🤦🏽 Took it to mechnic DPF filter needed service, almost $2000 later tells me "VGT Code" on turbo. Turns out VGT goes out because turbo is clogged to hell from zoot. Another $7K later I learned the entire EGR system and DPF need to be serviced at 80K miles. 🤦🏽 Expensive truck to service with all them damn filters.

Stay away from stealerships the beauty of these trucks is you can do most of the maintenance yourself. Especially on the new trucks after going on a diet IYKYK.

Another great video David! Love the content. Now what I'd love to see is Parts like the EGR cooler and valve that are different between the years and an explanation as to why you think they made a change to the different maintenance schedule.

How come the 2013-2018 group doesn’t get the egr cooler and egr valve cleaned? Would it be a good idea to clean it?

I have a 2016 3500 dually, at 67500 the service writer told me it was $1200 to do all three! I did the filter myself. Just looked at the manual and it shows nothing about the cooler and valve. A while later (100,000 miles) the EGR cooler cracked and contaminated the entire cooling system! $6600 later (extended warranty paid most) I got it back.

I have a 2016 Ram diesel with 52K. I wish your shop was located here in southern California. I know that eventually there will come a time when I need a trustworthy diesel shop (68RFE, EGR, DPF) and hopefully by then I'll find one. But if I cant find one I'll be going to Grovetown GA for a vacation.
