I can't thank you enough for your video PART 1 and PART 2. I just finished up my change out for an after market aluminum one on my 2014 Charger with 340K Kms. It was filling the V for sure. Your step by step is fantastic and awesome camera angles too. I could not have done this without you so thank you so much. It was a bit hard to clean out that V for me, with only a hand transfer pump, but it worked. Lots of rags too. I wasn't able to get it as spotless as you did. I wiped it all down best I could, hit the exterior with some break cleaner, and, well, It's not like you can see in there anyway. It was mostly dry when I got done mopping. Thank you again for Part 1 and 2. This is the second major job you helped me with. The other was spark plugs needing that upper intake off. Great resources. Subscribed for sure!

Very well done. I just did this for my 2019 charger. Things I learned. DO NOT skip the coolant drain. Let the car sit over night to let the oil settle back into the pan. I had two major issues, my hose clamp snapped in two and i had to order a replacement. I had tons of coolant over the block. My bad for not lowering the amount of coolant in the system. The oil Cooler I received had the incorrect oil pressure sensor. I had to swap the two, to get it correct. I highly recommend you double check this before installing, and if you need a replacement get a NEW OEM. I reused mine but wished I had checked prior, so i could get the correct one. Takes less then 2 hours to do. I also replaced my plenums with ported/polished new ones. That makes the rest of the work interesting with removal of Fuel injectors. Thought it would be smart to do it all at once.

I’ve had disappearing coolant for a while and no signs of a leak. This was it. The amount of coolant that was puddled under the cooler was insane. You saved me money by switching to a 2015 housing instead of a 2012 and doing it myself. Great video. Mine was a Jeep Grand Cherokee but the methods were all the same.

6 years later and this video still helpful. My wife has a charger and it started leaking oil I checked it and it’s the oil cooling housing unit.. my mechanic quoted me 1600$ so I helped the wife by doing it myself. It’s a messy job but ur video guided me thru everything. My automotive skills are probably a 5/10 but I’m happy of myself for completing the job and now the wife is happy that her car runs and we don’t have to share my vehicle anymore lol😂

Great video. Thank you for being so detailed, especially with the torque specs and bolt tightening sequence. One nuance that I ran into is that the engine in my 2011 jeep grand cherokee laredo sits about 6-8 inches further back than in the video and to get at one of the upper manifold brackets required removing the wipers, wiper motor, and the cowl, which turned out to be the most difficult part of the entire job.

Thanks for taking the time to put together such a thorough methodical video. It helped me tackle my wife's 2014 Challenger that was leaking oil and saved me a lot on labor. I didn't have a suction pump but used a large syringe to suck out the oil. I did start by accidently torquing the 5 bolt thinking it was the 1 and backed it out then tightened everything in the proper sequence. Didn't see any leaks, hopefully that didn't cause any problems with the seating of the housing.

I SUPER appreciate the video, but I have a couple of questions: 1. Do you have to drain the oil before doing this? 2. What model of needle nose pliers are you using/recommend for this? 3. When draining the antifreeze, is it going to drain the entire capacity (lines and reservoir) or only the amount held in the lines? Thanks in advance and excellent quality video!
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 5 жыл бұрын
I drain the coolant when doing the repair. Depending on the mileage it could be the perfect time for the coolant to be changed out. Its just the method I use so that I dont have to deal with any coolant coming out the cooler when I remove it. As far as needle nose pliers.....I use no specific brand. To be honest they most likely came from Harbor Freight lol. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe. Enjoy the weekend

Hi, Dave! Merry Christmas! I successfully replaced spark plugs on my 2014 Chrysler 300 watching your video. I've noticed engine oil presence or may be coolant on V - shaped valley area. I figured I may have spilled some oil there. Watching your video, I confirmed that there is a problem with oil leak. I spotted presence of some liquid there when it new. . Now I have driven 14500 miles, it is throwing OBD ll code as as well - P0305. I went online it's say bad spark plug, fuel injector etc... I don't think so. I believe the problem is with oil leak - vacuum leak causing rough idling and feels like misfiring, etc... I would let you work on it but you're a few thousand miles away. I hope I could replace filter housing myself watching your step by step video. And my 300 due for complete coolant flush anyway and I will replace water pump and thermostat as well. Thanks!

Great video. My cooler isn't leaking, but I must replace the oil pressure sensor, code 6dd. I was looking and seemed to think I could get to the sensor from the back. First, remove some things in the way. Cowling, etc. This will result in less cussing, removing the complete upper, or going around the back of the motor?

My 2014 jeep grand started leaking oil. At first I thought it was the RMS but the stealership pointed out it was this exact problem. I had 15k left on my power train warranty but the stealership says that they are not going to honor it because I have a supercharger installed. Looks like my 2017 Caravan 3.6 has this problem, looks like a milkshake in the radiator and overflow bottle. Took it to the dealer, and they did say it was a bad cooler. Was hoping it would be warranty work, but unfortunately it's not (salvage title car). Know the cooler has to be replaced, but they also wanted to replace the radiator, overflow bottle, thermostat, hoses, etc. Said they were "contaminated". Will a proper flush after the cooler is replaced be sufficient or should all of these things be replaced too? Love your vids, very thorough and informative! Thanks.
@MotorCityMechanic

I recommend repairing the the cause....replacing the cooler. Then flush the coolant multiple times. It might take 3-4 times until it clears up. I dont see any reason to replace anything else at this time. I understand them being overly cautious but I think you will be fine. Wish there was a good cleaner you could run thru it to help get that mess out....I just dont know whats out there other then doing the flushes as mentioned. Got the confirmation from the technician today when servicing my transmission, was the oil cooler. Got the parts gonna replace it tomorrow. Of course the wonderful 8 speed was a pain to fill. The technician had to stop part way through as the temperature went above parameters when filling it. Of course I also am going to have to replace the front differential soon as well. So if you were able to do a video on that it would be great.

Hey David, The oil looks like it has been leaking for awhile but not very much at all. I just finished replacing the left exhaust camshaft and two rocker arms ( thanks to your video it was a lot easier to do and for me not being a mechanic and getting into a newer engine like that that it did start right up and the knocking was gone. I let it warm up a bit and let it cool like two times then took it for a slow drive around my complex as I pulled into my parking spot turn off the engine and got saw a trail of oil behind me. Looking under the hood i saw the oil going over the transmission, because i just put a new filter on and new oil in I thought it might be coming from the filter cap so I started it up again and looked under the car and saw a good amount puddling up. Q- What could cause that to start leaking so bad like that? Q- How can I make sure that it is for sure the oil filter housing is there a way to test it ? Q- where do they usually leak from on the housing? I saw two different videos about this but I wanted to let you know my situation to make sure I was not missing anything. Thank you for your time!

Its hard to see where on the assembly it leaks....its hidden under the lower intake so you cant watch to see where the leak begins. eventually it fills the area under the intake and it runs out over the trans and down to the floor. I always feel its from the plastic halves where they are fused together. I have seen any o-ring issues personally. I am not sure why it happened after your repair. Double check your work and if all seems okay.....looks like the cooler assembly be needed. Thanks for using my videos for the repair you tool on. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.

The MOPAR O'ring in the repair kit # 681913 was smaller in the cross section than the O'ring that came with the after market complete oil cooler unit from AA Ignition. This video is excellent and after viewing two or three times It gave me confidence to remove all those parts. I would like to know the dimensions of that one O'ring. It may be that parts suppliers have sourced the O'ring with cross section tolerance that makes for loose and leaky fit.

Hey David quick question I just did this repair thanks to your video. I’m not a mechanic by any means but my question is when I tried to drain my radiator no coolant came out so I did the idiot move and assumed their wasn’t coolant in my system and removed the oil cooler assembly and coolant spewed everywhere on top of the oil. I used a fluid extractor to remove it all but my question is why didn’t it drain from my radiator
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
I always recommend draining the oil when that happens so that any coolant that mixed with the oil will be drained and replaced. As far as the drain....it might not be fully open or the outlet might be clogged. You can try blowing compressed air thru the outlet to see if it starts flowing then or possibly insert a small wire to see if you can physically clear out any thing that might be blocking it. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

Personally I would....the new housing comes with a new filter....perfect time for an oil change. Plus you may get some antifreeze in the oil passages when removing it so thats another reason I would. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

@@MotorCityMechanic so drain the oil after replacing the adapter?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
@@Sidewinder573 For sure. The reason is because of any coolant that might have gotten into the open oil passages when the assembly was removed. The oil will already be in the pan and little in the cooler so its more of a "clean up" reason for draining the oil at the end.

Can you replace the oil filter housing on a 2011 with the newer style filter housing? I have a broken tower in the housing, the bypass valve is okay but the tower itself broke at the bottom. I see the new ones use a different filter with its own valve.

Evening Matt. To answer the question.....yes you can. The issue that comes up is someone trying to install the wrong oil filter. They will get a filter based on the year and not know its wrong and still try to install it. So you will have to educate them on what it really takes but yes it can. Thanks for the question Matt and make sure to subscribe if you havent already.

Question 2: Should the Intake manifold ports and contact surfaces be cleaned out and installed dry? This video should have demonstrated how to remove the lower intake manifold off to clean the intake ports. I watch these videos for other visual details that is off topic, although you did not talk about how the condition of the surface, seal and seal wedges and inner intake port walls should appear, I hoped I could have seen it in the video but can't be easily seen. I could not tell if all around and inside walls if the surface should be smooth, clean and dry like a new plastic spoon. The surface of the ports of my lower intake manifold looked like hard caramel candy, dark brownish with a texture of a brown paper bag and the seal and seal wedges on top look a little wet.

Ronald I feel your reading too much into these videos after reading the multiple comments. I could include every little step but then the video would be 4 parts abs be an hour long. Then I would have people complaining about that. Now if people were willing to pay to watch these videos I would be more then happen to give every little spec of info including tools needed, time it takes, price of parts.....etc. remember these videos are free and so is the advice.

choche videos There is no need in changing it unless your close to the oil change interval/mileage. You did just put a new filter in so changing it wouldn't hurt however. The choice is yours. Why do you need to drain the radiator to remove the oil filter housing?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
Morning Bobby. The oil cooler has coolant in it. You have to remove a coolant hose and then the housing so if you dont drain the level to at least below the cooler.....you going to have a mess with coolant going everywhere. That includes into the oil cooler ports on the block meaning now you need to change the oil. That draining will save you some headache in the end.

@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
The cooler can fail and cause oil to get into the coolant. There is no such thing as a blown head gaskets anymore. Chrysler went to gaskets made of multiple layers of steel back in the late 90's and they dont blow. Now you can run it hot enough to warp a head....now thats a different issue lol. Ok so I went to a buddies shop of mine who owns a lift and I did the oil change and we got under and looked at the oil and their was a lot of oil built up where the main seal is as well as on top of the transmission area I told him it was most likely just my oil filter housing that was leaking the oil. My question is do these engines leak from the rear seal often or no
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
I havent seen a rear main seal leak yet.....the oil filter housing is the most common and it fills up the intake valley and then leaks out the rear over the top of the trans and then coats everything underneath as well. I feel good saying the leak is that. 'Thanks for the the question and for watching! Many thanks

Its hard to say. Due to where its located and when it leaks.....parts of it being under the oil that leaked out, it could be the seals...it could be the housing.
