G'day guys, here is a comparison between the camp stove I have used for years while motorcycle camping and a different style stove which I now think is also a great Motorcycle camping stove option! Hope you enjoy :-) Cheers... Mark

Hi Mark another great vid, thanks for putting the effort in for us. Like you I have loads of cookers, I seem drawn to shiny things lol. the only difference I find with the size of the actual burner is that the smaller it is the more likely I am to burn the middle of the pan, this is due to the concentrated nature of the smaller flame. I find the larger flame less likely to cause it due to the greater spread. Plus the bigger one heats more evenly. Keep up the great work mate, ride safe. Gary

Gudday Mark. The gas canisters are designed to be able to lay flat or stand upright. But they can only lay one way. That is because they have a pipe that leads from the nozzle and then angles to one side to ensure it is always above the liquid. When the can is upright the nozzle end is above the liquid (as the pipe is quite short) and when they lay down the correct way the nozzle end is still above the liquid as it is angled that way. If you look at your adaptor for your small stove you will see that it only fits the canister one way (the notch in the canister lid), hence EVERY time you hook up that adaptor the can lies only the one correct way hence no flare up. To test the point you could attach the new stove which is freestanding and lay it the same way the little stove canister lies and there will be no flare up, then roll the can around so the side that was up is now down and it will flare like billy O. They are actually used flat in the Gasmate stoves.

Looks to me that the larger stove would be more useful when cooking larger items like your full meal., it would handle a large pot or skillet with less chance of knocking some thing over. Thanks for the comparison Mark.

See my message in your previous video. Keep the notch on the gas can facing up, and it can lie safely on its side. There is a vent inside the can and it aligns with the notch. Just as it is positioned on your usual stove. Love your videos, mate!

The butane canister it designed to work horizontally but not beyond. The big one is much more stable and could use bigger pots and pans.

Thanks Mark. Bloody good stuff. One question though, is there any reason why you light the stoves with a lighter instead of using the electronic ignition which is on the stove?

It seems that the bigger stove if left unattended while the water is heating , could possibly have a tank/can tip over , which would result in a big flair up. The smaller stove , the tank /can is connected to the stove and at the correct angle, so no tip over , no flair up! Great video Mark ! Camping season is fast approaching for us in Canada. Looking forward to that.

The Trangia gas burner doesn't flare up as it has a pre heat pipe so it burns liquid butane or propane. If it is cold they burn better on liquid.

Hi! The canes are new ones, therefore there is more pression, and thats why the liquid tends to stay on the bottom of the cane.... And yes, in those canister are liquid gas (unless it's acetylene in wich case are a rock of carbide and water) )

Have you ever tried solid fuel like hexi blocks? Its a bit cold here in Blighty for those gas bottles they freeze up.

thanks for this comparison Mark. one thing I would add is its not totally equal in the sense that the larger burner you are adding the adaptor for weight. Its designed primally for the short butane/propane gas bottle and not the gasmate can like the other burner. A fair weight comparison would be the larger burner( without adaptor) with the stout mixed gas cans and your original one with the gasmate can. Also the larger burner doesn't concentrate the heat in a small area like the smaller one. so better for larger pots/pans, food for thought. Thanks Max

Both units flare up when liquid is fed into them instead of gas. Both canisters should be slightly tilted so the only gas is being fed into the burners.

FYI and for anyone not in oz, here's an Amazon link to the stove with a wind shield. The shield is helpful when it's cold out too, you can put the fuel canister inside it to keep it from freezing up. www.amazon.com/dp/B074MJ5CVL/?coliid=I2S5L0HFUIDOAH&colid=3CHBW0CI3H8UJ&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Hi Mark, great video. I think the reason it didn't flare up as much is because you were using a used canister which is going to have less liquid in it as it gets closer to empty.

Semantics, but try to remember "gas" as fuel and that will help with the gas liquid vs gas vapor confusion. I always use the term Fuel to refer to petrol, diesel, stove gas, etc. Something taught to me by an engineer. You use/buy fuel, and gas is the vapor state of petrol/butane.

I have an Optimus Primus multi fuel stove that burns gas, petrol, kerosene, diesel and other fuels through just one jet that never needs changing, unlike other multi fuel stoves that come with multiple jets. It never flares gas no matter which position the canister is in, and in fact it even has little prongs that fold out of the fitting to the canister so that it can be inverted either in extremely cold weather, or to get pretty much every last bit of gas out. Best stove I’ve had by a mile or 1.6 kilometres, used daily through Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan at 5000 metre altitudes.

youll never have flare ups if your stove have a pre heater tube so it is able to use liquid gas itself. it is special stoves made for cold area where you can use cans upside down. you can tell if you have one or not if you see a tube that goes in the flame of the burner. 26ebru3fogag2ce2bw4a6246-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/liquid-feed-pre-heat-tube.jpg
