I’ve been motorcycle camping for 45 years. Only ever used petrol cookers. The first 25 years l had a Optimus 8R and the last 20 years have used a Coleman Sportster which is still going strong. I have duel petcocks on a long range tank and one of the petcocks has been modified so l can easily fill the cooker. 45 years and not a single problem, I don’t understand why so many people complain about these types of cookers.

Thanks. I like camping. Not always possible and cheap. Sometimes it's just not worth it.

Excellent advice Stephan, looking forward to your next update on other camping gear :) i just ordered one of those canister adapters as i have a few butane gas bottles lying about , also i use a couple of mountain stoves as well because they are compact .....Gas is what i use all the time its still fairly cheap , i also use a gas stove windshield which is invaluable in windy conditions , like you most of my gear is stuff purchased over a decade or so all in the loft which i need to get sorted soon....ride safe mate...

Hi Neil. Gas is just so easy to use. I think I have to make a follow up video as I haven't included all the bits who go with it. What do you recon I should put into the video people like to see? Looking forward to your ideas... Ride safe mate. 👌

A note on those really small stoves. I have been using small stoves for 50 years and used all kinds. Last fall, I was on a trip and camped at 8000 feet. Next morning when I got up it was 20F. When gas is flowing, there is an additional temp drop because of the pressure change. The heat output dropped way off and it took a long time to get coffee water boiling. On trips where it gets cold, I have gone back to my Primus stove with a much bigger burner. Not as small but works much better. I also now go with the bigger fuel tanks which have higher pressure for longer as the liquid fuel in them boils off. That super small "secret weapon, not good when it's cold, I know because I tried one. When it's cold that Primus stove is a better way to go and I still stick with cartridge gas. I no longer use liquid fuel stoves. In the USA Butane/propane canisters are available anywhere and cost is just not an issue.

Hi Mr Walker. Thank you for your detailed response. This is very informative. Altitude is not so much of an issue for most of the people, but the size of the burner is . The little mini stove is only good for heating water as the heat source is just to tight. You burn your food as you only heat up the centre of the pot . What are your recommendations? Could also advise in on Gas vs Petrol ? Your knowledge is really appreciated.

@@MOTOTravelUK I used white gas (Petrol) to those on the other side of the world for many many years. I now only use the gas stoves. I even used the old SVEA stoves from 50 years ago. The petrol stoves are kind of blow torch or off, no heat control. Over time I used Colman Peak stoves, very heavy but the most stable and could simmer low. But for use in the mountains or where it is very cold, Petrol may be a better choice. Today, I only use the propane gas stoves since they will simmer and are much more convenient. If its cold and I have a camp fire I will warm up a few rock. Then put them in a ring and place the stove canister in center to keep the pressure up, work well. There are so many to choose from and even the ones with a bigger burner and higher heat output still fold up into a small size so I say go with a bigger one. I also like the ones which do not sit on top of the fuel canisters but have a hose. The others are too tall and tippy. Last year when it was cold in fall up in the mountains of Utah near Capital Reef National Park, I took one of the super small micro stoves and 2 of the small tanks. I took for ever to get some coffee made. I now only take my Primus stove with the bigger burner. I now never buy the small tanks. I buy the big ones since the hold pressure longer. Even on my motorcycle a larger stove and 2 larger fuel canisters just don't take up that much extra space.

why not a TRANGIA ..? It runs with and w/o butane gas, e.g. with spiritus... and it indeed is pretty compact
@MOTOTravelUK

I have both, but I don't like to carry the extra fuel just to cook. So my 1L Petrol serves me well for cooking and as fuel for my bike. Spiritus (Alcohol ) takes too long to get going. Petrol Smell is an inconvenience I can live with.
