The same exact thing happened to a good friend of mine when he hit some moss on a turn. There was 5 of us and he was in the front. We all watched him fly off the cliff and get impaled on a broken tree limb. Died on the spot at 17 years old. They had to cut the limb off the tree in order to get him down. That was the last time I rode on a motorcycle 36 years ago. This guy's riding suit probably helped the most but it's still unbelievable he survived. What wonderful friends to have.

It pays to be observant. I once spotted fresh looking skid marks vanishing off the edge of a bend on similar gradient with no guard rail. Curiosity took over so when possible I turned and went back up the road and then had to partially block traffic to get out for a proper look. Sure enough there was a car upside down about 50 metres down with a still conscious lady hanging inside. Man was she ever happy to see me, and was I ever happy she was alive. She could easily have perished there as it wasn't long before dark.

@@alasdair4161Hi, how long was she there? Do you think your curiosity was somehow oriented by something. Are you ususally that curious?
@alasdair41612 жыл бұрын
@@tomasnokechtesledger1786 We think she'd been there about ten minutes, probably another five before I reached her, as the exhaust was still hot. I don't know what made me go back, as I had my wife with me who disputed my initial thought. I think the marks that were mainly visible on the shoulder just caught my attention as I recall thinking 'wow, I sure wouldn't want to go off there'.. I also found another accident many years before, an elderly man flagged me down on a rainy night on a country road saying he heard a crash from his house and came out looking for it, I searched down the road and found the wreck almost 300 yards further on, again off the road and with marks carved across a grass verge, the car had hit a tree side on in a thicket just beyond, killing the driver, the sole occupant. That incident disturbed me deeply for at least a year, the trauma was horrific, maybe that's what prompted me to go back, and it certainly played a part in my relief to find the lady more or less ok. First on scene is always stressful, for some reason I've witnessed far more than my share over the years. I now carry fire extinguishers and a more comprehensive kit with medical first aid, lights, glass breaker and seatbelt cutter. I would hate to get caught out without them. .

He probably knows and has learned from it. I had a similar accident except I got far luckier and didn't go over the cliff, but bounced off the rail and slide down the road. I had my reasons for the mistake and it wasn't only my speed. I saw a dip in the road that looked large enough to be scary in medium tilt, so I straightened up for the bump, then couldn't get leaned back over fast enough. Hindsight I could probably have hit the dip at medium tilt, but I was not super experienced and wanted to be safe. I rode away from the accident, but there was a cliff similar to this one in the video, but the rail saved me and my bike.

Yes, they were speeding. Based on what the other bikes looked like in the turn, they weren’t running anywhere near the edge. Willie said his rear tire hit something. Probably gravel, dirt, or sand, the bike did something, he lost his positioning on the bike, and couldn’t control the bike. I’ve had that happen at ridiculously slow speed. They were in the mountains enjoying the riding. But sounds like speed wasn’t the cause of this. Even scarier, it was just one of those things that can happen on a bike.

@@ngangbamrobinchandra161 Some people make jokes about everything; it’s their way of coping with situations. It they were involved they would be serious. Willie is okay so jokes okay. If he had died hopefully no joking around. GOD had another plan for Wille. Hopefully Willie will drive slower!!! ❤️. My husband & I rode his Harley all day. Thank GOD we returned home safe.

I remember getting my first serious bike in L.A. The guys at the dealer said... "You're not going to go up to the Crest with that, are you? You know guys get airlifted out of there practically every weekend." I laughed thinking they were exaggerating, but... Nope. That's pretty accurate actually.

I used to be a highway safety worker, you just don’t know what’s off the shoulder until you walk it, you would be surprised what’s out there.

Doug. YES I was a ( Road farmer) a joke called of us by the engineering department. We had Flagger training. Always teach know your escape route. I would always keep a eye on my vehicle STOPPED, and watching vehicle coming the other way. Was Flagging on a bad Accident. The guy was on his PHONE, just plowed into a van with a already disabled man. Boy talk about Ambulance chasing insurance Lawyers for the guy who caused the Accident in first place. Your job was very hard, that people never give you enough credit, to try and prevent these type of thing. People are so angry, when they get stopped or have to slow. For traffic safety. Your job was to slow people down

Willie was in the best care down there! What a friend. He knew exactly what to do. Stay calm and don’t move that help was on the way. Plus he asked him what happened. This could be very important in case of fatal injuries later. Hope Willie is doing well.
