J&S commercial lol. The Harbor Freight jacks costs about 1/8 the price of the J&S. The Pitbull jack lifts high enough so that you can stand to work on your bike, which you will appreciate if you are doing an engine teardown and rebuild. If all you need is something to change tires or clean your bike, any of these will do. I've owned all three, still have the Pitbull.

I don't have an issue when moving my bike around on the casters. I'm not a bike dealer, so it's not like I'm jacking up different bikes every day. Mine is an 800 lb. bike and it works just fine for maintenance.

To lift my 1997 FLSTC, I had my orange $79 Harbor Freight lift for 18yr before I bought my J&S lift 3yr ago. The HF lift has served well and I still have it. The J&S is nice & I like the air jack lift it came with. The J&S is a bit wider so the bike is a bit more stable, but not perfect. I used to stack 4x4s under my rear tire for stability under my HF lift. NOW I use a 3-1/2ton tranny lift under my front tire to do the same. After all I ended up adding a S&S-111 to my '97 FLSTC, and that makes it "front heavy" especially after I took the Bags off. This is even after moving the J&S lift as far forward as possible (up against the back of the kick stand). ALL SAID AND DONE, both HF and J&S lifts can be made to work well and each serves their purpose. Plus adding a tranny lift to jack/support one of the wheels is pretty much needed in either case, IMO. Getting to be the old man that I am, I opted to splurge for an airlift capable lift and to ME that make this old man happy!

Thanks for the review. I agree that your Harbor Freight lift looked dangerous, but the one I have is very stable. It's about five years old now, and I've used it on my 800 lb Venture and 750 lb Stratoliner without any problems. It won't lift as high as the others, but I don't have a need for that. Besides using it to work on and to clean the bike, I used it to store the bike for the winter. The only issue I have with it is It is sometimes difficult to move initially. Maybe larger diameter wheels would help.

My goal was to lift my motorcycle on a standard motorcycle jack (not the paddock style) and have it be safe, secure and lift it by myself. I had to make some modifications to my particular bike as it has no frame under the engine. So, I just bought a Sears Craftsman motorcycle jack that was several years old as there are no new Craftsman jacks in any inventory anymore. I chose the old Craftsman because many of the current models are cheezed down on quality. I restored the Craftsman jack with one significant change - on the platform top where the motorcycle sits, I replaced the Acorn nuts with some stainless-steel lifting triangle shaped eyelet nuts. The Craftsman has all M12 heavy duty fasteners. The triangle (eyelets) can be attached to the bike at first contact and the bike will not go anywhere during the lifting process unlike the loops down on the base cannot be used until the bike is fully up in the air. I've posted the final assembly build and modified skid plate on a Kawasaki Versys X300 to allow it to be lifted up in the air. This technique of strapping the bike to the top platform makes is really safe and secure and allow one person to lift the motorcycle hands free. The video is on my channel - LINK: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kICpmXtor76Er68&ab_channel=trekOCLVone

not to mention the bike was not centered on the HF model. I worked with a HF stand for years... The J&S Jack is the best motorcycle jack made if you need to roll your motorcycle around in your garage but for most people a Harbor freight jack is more than ample to lift any Harley. I have my Road King on a Harbor Freight jack right now and after watching this video went in the garage and shook it from front to rear. It did not move anywhere near what they showed in the video. I bought the aluminium Harbor freight jack first and felt it was unstable bike front to rear so brought it back and bought the cheaper steel on which is far more ridged and stable. Dont get me wrong if money is not an issue buy the J&S Jack. It is as good as they say.

Needless to say that jack went back to the store the next day. I then was split between the J&S and Pit Bull jack. Despite the obvious bias in this comparison, all credibility is lost in my estimation with the gross misspelling of "Freight" as in "Harbor Freight". It is a simple word attributed to a popular retailer, yet the misspelling appears multiple times. If they can't get that elementary school word correct, why should we believe the message.

As the owner of PITBULL LIFTS I get a lot of calls and comments about this video. We sell a lot of lifts because of this video and the impression that I gives people about how some folks do business. We have been around for 30 years and are quite proud of our products , BUT, we DO NOT bash the competition even on a private phone call. There are differences between the different brands and we are happy to explain what our features are ANY questions about our lifts. We will tell anyone that our American made competition builds a good product but the purchaser should NEVER make a decision based upon a "comparison" video. Check with lift owners and users but most of all call the manufacturer and get the info straight from them or even ask for nearby references. By the way, there is a reason why mules have a large footprint.

This also puts more stress on the base of the Pit Bull causing it to flex more. 4. In the video seeing the three jacks side by side it is easy to see which jack is the better built and designed jack. 5. The J&S jack is less expensive than the Pit Bull, I assume due to the smaller footprint which means less material required to build the jack. This video made my decision to order a J&S Jack and attempt to cancel my Pit Bull Jack order.
@robertbarcus19639 жыл бұрын
The Video lost credibility from the start, by using no tie down straps. Murphy's law applies to all these jacks. I seen bikes tip over just because, and no body around them for miles. So if nobody's around to bump them off, I dam sure aint going to work on the thing without proper tie downs.

I've used the HF one to lift all my full dress Harleys. Is it a bit flimsy? Yes. Does it lower the bike too quickly? Yes. Did I get to spend the other $300 on some new tires instead of sending it to J&S? YES! All three of these jacks have tie-down loops and not one was used in this video. Moving an 800lb bike while it's JUST balanced on top of a 10" wide pad (approx HD frame spacing) is dumb. Also, if your bike doesn't have a flat bottom, these wont work without an adapter.

I have to agree. I have been using my yellow lift for over six years with no issues. Best $45 ever spent on a jack. (50% off sale!) I noticed they didn't try pulling the load across the uneven floor. And it wasn't because of the instability. It's because it works. The cast iron wheels won't wear out on the yellow jack like the plastic ones will on the other two. And my bike at the time was a 77-FLH. No mention of the "5-position" locking mechanism on the yellow jack?

I've used the HF jack in my cheapass buddies shop, which is why I didn't buy one. It would be fine with lighter motorcycles though. HF products can be excellent values if used within their limits. I suggest lurking Craigslist for all your equipment. I scored a Pit Bull for $150 and am looking for a J&S which in person really are as nice as the (overly verbose) review states. Fair weather riders sell their leftovers cheap when they sell their toys. I agree on the BS flag. I don't dance around my shop with a motorcycle nor would I store one on a jack because hydraulic cylinders are best stored retracted to avoid shaft pitting. The Pit Bull is fine with my FXR and Shovelheads and I like the spread because I've used mine to pull a truck transmission. if you have a truck or 4x4 that's worth remembering. Of course if you are coughing up around five hundred bucks for a new lift, you really should start looking at Handy commercial grade lift tables. You can find them used for under a grand and no mere jack approaches their awesomeness.
@Beach52897 жыл бұрын
It would be nice for what a J&S costs if it had a foot lever release like the $89 - $200 jacks do. Who wants bend down to the floor to twist the release when it would be so simple to put a foot pedal release on , you put one on to raise it didn't ya.
@nutmegger195710 жыл бұрын
The distance between lifting pads, is not as critical as the length of the lifting pads themselves. Why is it that no manufacturer out there doesn't listen to the customer and make their pads at LEAST 13 inches in length, to give some wiggle room (safety) to the way the bike sits on the pads?!
@hobbywheels10 жыл бұрын
We all know this is biased towards J&S but I have the J&S because of the smaller footprint, ease of maneuvering and price (got a like-new used one for $150). I looked at the pitbull and it was too large and cost too much. A friend has the pitbull and after side by side comparison, he wished he had the J&S. The advantage to the pitbull is that you can get the overpriced turntable and spin your bike around to impress your buddies!
@dszalajeski12 жыл бұрын
1. The Pit Bull has too large of a base, and in the video it is shown as a flaw. With a longer wheel base the Pit Bull tends to flex under load and if moving the bike or not this makes it less stable. 2. Again with the larger footprint of the Pit Bull, the jack sticks out around the bike making it harder to work up close to the bike. Also this makes for a bad situation if you don't have much room to maneuver a large footprint jack around. 3. The Pit Bull doesn't go as vertical as the J&S jack.
