Clearly was NOT lane splitting, maybe the rider wasn't using his turn signals? The LEO's have discretion, but I didn't see anything that was crazy unsafe that rises to the level required for reckless driving if one reads the statute. I would bet good money the cop was going to be an a$$ until he saw the rider was recording. Officers never admit they were wrong or lying, so I think issuing the reckless driving threat was all officer ego.

@GoToPhx3 ай бұрын
@@georgefloydsinhellwbreonna5330 If one re-reads my comment, you can see that I first said it wasn't lane splitting, which I feel is a factual comment. The definition of lane splitting is: when a motorcyclist rides between two cars heading in the same direction. It allows riders to ride on the white dashed line between lanes, and this practice is also called “white-lining”. I believe California is still the only state that legally allows lane splitting. I then said I didn't see reckless driving. I SHOULD have been more clear that I meant according to the the statute in MY state, sorry. Where I live, we have more freedom than a lot of older states. Here is the definition: A person who drives a vehicle in reckless disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. With that in mind, a see a high speed (your eyes are better than mine, I didn't look as closely to see a speedometer reading), and a close-but-not-rising -to-the-level-of-reckless-using-my-discretion to pass between cars that were NOT driving next to each other. I'm basing my opinion on past LEO experience, and the video showing very light traffic, with a clear/dry/smooth road and my understanding of how motorcycles handle differently from other motor vehicles. Does that mean I'm saying the biker made the most conservative, safest decision? No. Am I saying that an accident could have happened if the car on the right suddenly slammed it's brakes on? Of course that could have occurred. In any future replies, can you please refrain from the insults,? It's not a good look for those trying to carry on a polite 'conversation'.

I love how it's normal for police in other countries to just pull out a portable breathalyzer and nobody loses their mind over it. It saves you from having to do a highly subjective field sobriety test that is not even designed as a pass or fail. If we adopted that in the US, I believe there would fewer fatalities. Driving is a privilege, not a right; however, people often push the boundaries on those rights.
@justexploring69793 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s pretty standard in Australia and New Zealand. Police have random checkpoints where they get drivers to quickly stop to check their registration and do an alcohol breath-test. It’s more common on Friday & Saturday nights when they expect people to be drinking. Unlike the last video, it doesn’t really take that long, less than 20 seconds and you’re back on the road. I’d imagine if this was adopted in the US there would be complaints about violating some right
@dougcraft773 ай бұрын
They don't do anything about drunk driving in the Philippines unless you cause an accident. The ratio for drunk to sober drivers here is about 30%. Have a couple shots of Tanduay and hit the road. The bottle goes with you so when you take a break you can down a couple more!
@Isaac_1323 ай бұрын
Exactly. The US needs to get rid of that pesky 4th amendment thing to mamke the job of the police easier.
@GoToPhx3 ай бұрын
BUT you are forgetting that MADD pays police departments for DUI ARRESTS, not convictions. If you had an easy way to determine if a driver was over the legal limit on the side of the road the police wouldn't be able to arrest as many unimpaired drivers as they can now.
@GoToPhx3 ай бұрын
@@justexploring6979 Yes indeed, thank you civil rights! But with that said, some departments do use them, but they use them in ways that don't violate our rights. That is, the police watch to see a actual traffic violation, for which they are allowed to pull someone over for. If they then see other signs of DUI, then they can use the portable breathalyzer. Why don't more departments do this? because Mothers against Drunk Driving reward police departments for DUI arrests, not convictions. It's therefore in the police best interests to NOT determine an individual's level of intoxication in a quick an easy way on the roadside. Much more rewarding for the PD to guess (or lie as some sadly do) and arrest whomever they want and let them sort it out later in court.
