Old Guy on a Bike

Күн бұрын

I'm traveling today in a familiar area and corridor but there are just so many back roads and I did wondere aboujt my GPS after a while. It's Labour Day weekend and I didn't make camping reservatons. That almost bites me. Leaving the motel in Gorhma, NH, I travel through the small towns of Vermont and into New York State, eventually stopping at Lewey Lake Campground in the Indian Lake State Park system. I haven't stocked up on groceries yet knowing I will be crossing the borderr again and then staying with friends for a few nights.

I was on the same route a year before! We stayed at the D.A.R. campground about 2 hours north of the Lewey Lake campsite right by the VT/NY border. Awesome campground with showers as well..

Can't imagine planning a map route five months before the trip. I'm lucky to do it the day before I leave, but that's okay... it keeps me from having my mind focused too early on the trip. Shook my head with another trailer tire replacement. Thought: "Man, he's screwed, no Canadian tire in sight" but, Tractor Supply is my "go to" as well. Great scenery and pace. Nice to see trees fully leafed. "Indian Lake its a scene you should make with your little one................." I'm a few years your senior so my music memory does include "itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini" as well.

I keep forgeting I had at leasst 15,000 km on those trailer tires when I left Newfoundland. Got to keep a better eye on them. At least they are easy to find. The Cowsills tune started rattling around in my head when I first saw Indian Lake on the map. Singing in the car to the summer tunes on the radio while vacationing was mandatory.

That's a bummer I've had the same problem before. Lots of free camping around that area actually too.

I'm only starting to get used to using apps like freecampsites and freeroam to locate free spots or cheap spots. One issue is I found myself looking for a campsite in an area with no cell signal. I've realizing I need to plan a little bit ahead for finding sites.

I’ve ridden Rt2 from Maine to New York many times. An excellent ride for scenery and super relaxing. I’ve even discovered some nice little makeshift campsites that are better than a campground. And revisit them often.

It's a great route. It's a little tougher to stealth camp or take advantage of dispersed camping hauling the tent trailer I will admit but I hope to do a bit more of that this summer/fall.

Very familar territory Jim. The color in the video is very vibrant. Canadian Tire stock must have taken a hit with you hitting up Tractor Supply! Just noticed you're doing 3 sound tracks on the video!! Do you normally do that and I just missed it?

I have a voice over track, 2 music tracks and the embedded audio in the vidio clips (which I can split out). I'm often doing a little mixing and leveling audio on at least 3 tracks. Sometimes it is more apparent than other times. Yup, your neck of the woods and it was a brilliant day out.

I am enjoying all of your videos and I am looking to add a trailer to my ST 1300. How much does your mini mate trailer weigh gross ? I want to see how much weight I can pull ??
@OldGuyonaBike
@OldGuyonaBike Жыл бұрын
I am glad that you are enjoying the videos. I've done an estimate on the weight of the Mini Mate and contents based on weighing individual totes etc. I really do need to get it on a scale. My best guess right now is a total of450 lbs.with a full cooler. My tongue wight is 60 lb +/- 2 lbs. most of the time. The ST brakes seem to handle that quite well although you can expect faster wear on brake pads. The ST is geared tall so coming from a complete stop feels sluggish but once rolling the motor pulld the MM easily. I'm sad that I totalled my ST last summer. I'm replacing it with a 1990's Goldwing. Couldn't find a good used ST within 3 days travel.

What type of tires do you run on the bike?

I've been getting pretty good bang for the buck out of Shinko Verge 11s. Have got a PR5 on the rear right now as that was the only thing they had to fit in North Carolina at the end of Sept.. To be honest, I can't see any improvement or differrence in handling and we'll see how the wear to cost ratio works out. Certainly a much more expensive tire. There is no PR5 in the right size for the front tire. Even without the trailer I was happy with the Shinkos and with hauling it, I'm keeping a good pace but I'm not carving the roads much higher than 130 kph/75 mph max.
