I like the Feuling OE setup for a couple of reasons, they have a looser tolerance and depending on what your crank run out is they will deal with that a lot better. The race plates you should really be under .005 on the run out which isn't always the case. Some will say they are fine with higher run out but you do run the risk of that run out tearing up a tighter tolerance race plate.

Can this unit read the mileage stored in the ECM? Was told that only a HD Digital Technician computer can read the ECM mileage (HD call it running a "birth certificate" test printout). I've been helping a friend of mine with a 2007 Softail. It was in a fire and between the two of us we rebuilt it and it ran fine for 2 years. Then one day it wouldn't take throttle it would idle but that's it. The code was for a crank position sensor which we replaced. All was good we cleared the code several weeks later again it wouldn't take throttle it would idle but that's it. This time it had a code for a map sensor and also the throttle position sensor which we replaced it didn't do any good I did more reading and there is a problem in certain years with the wiring I checked out from point a to point b between the computer and the sensors and the wiring seemed fine no break. Just because this bike had been in a fire and the fire was more in front of the gas tank as it was in a garage we just replaced the wiring harness with a used wiring harness from a known eBay dismantler but still it would not take throttle. We thought maybe the computer so we bought a used computer I was able to marry the computer to the bike but still the same thing and it won't clear the two codes. Not knowing a lot about computers I prefer a carburetor and which I have on my bike. He took it to the local Harley dealer and immediately they said the two sensors we replaced should be Harley brand they replaced them then they came back and said it still don't take throttle you need a new wiring harness. I know this is getting long. He paid them for their 2 hours of work and $300 and two parts that didn't do anything. So I'm at a loss helping him and it sits in my barn .. the dealer just wanted to throw parts at it parts we already replaced I just think they didn't have somebody that was knowledgeable in in-depth work that's the way I feel so like I say we're at a loss maybe you have some ideas thanks I did check the fuel pressure and it was about 45 PSI if I remember I made up a test device from an automobile test device cuz that's what I was initially thinking but why would it show codes for those two sensors. 😲
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
Dang that's a crazy one there, I would honestly get a single fire ignition and convert that bike over to a carb. This unit is falsely advertised. It does not activate the ABS for bleeding. It has a subsystem that leads you to believe that but when you access (ABS Bleeding), it just goes to a menu that only allows code reading and viewing live data. I have watched a lot of videos concerning bleeding ABS on Harleys and I can only conclude it’s bull crap. Those systems require you to manual bleed the system first then actuate the ABS to get the air out and in many cases, with some of those systems, does not require a second bleeding. Well if we do this to get the air out of the ABS and then it’s not required to second bleed, then where did the so called air go? It’s a sealed system. Did it teleport out all by itself? If you manually bleed ANY braking system and the pedal or lever is NOT spongy or low, then there is NO air present in that system. Period! 37yrs as an automotive technician tells me that. At best, actuating the system mixes the very little fluid that may be left in the block with the new fluid you installed and actuates the valving to lubricate with newer fluid so older fluid is not left in there to corrode and cause sticking which is the real original issue with Harley ABS units. Manually bleeding the system and activating the ABS manually by applying solid pressure when riding will do exactly the same thing but word of caution! If your valves are already corroded, then activating the ABS in any form may cause issues due to a valve sticking from that corrosion and could lead to disaster for the rider manually activating the ABS. It can also lead to disaster by electronically activating as well if corrosion has already taken effect. It’s always a 50/50 gamble due to ABS valving not frequently being activated and the valves sitting in the same spot in the block for years because your ABS never had to activate. I see it all the time in cars with the same units made by the exact same manufacturer. This is the reason Harley wants flushes every 2 years. And this is the reason Harley wants those valves to move in new fluid every 2 years as well to minimize the possibility of sticking. Not to get the air out.

Aside from oil changes which is still mostly a do it yourself maintenance job, You need specialized tools and equipment to troubleshoot, analize and repair problems. Most manufacturers have specialized equipment designed for their brand only like Audi, BMW. Mercedes! You can't analyze your Harley because of the software needed to do so. I didn't know that antilock brakes needed to be bled every 2 years. I guess my 2012 Ultra and 2016 Heritage are overdue! Thanks for the update.
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
This scan tool really unlocks all the systems on your Harley, you can even get better software for different systems from the aftermarket. Keeping the right to repair is going to be an even much bigger deal as time goes on.

I don't need one for my old carburated bikes, but if I bought something newer I would definitely get a scanner. I've got them for the cages. Without a scanner you're just shooting in the dark.

Was thinking I need this to bleed/flush ABS brake system but have seen information saying it's not necessary. What does the scanner do to the ABS block so that you can bleed/flush brake system? BTW, the information did state that you had to use a reverse bleed tool.
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
This tool allows you to activate the ABS system which allows you to push fluid through it, there is also access to how to do it on the tool as well. Harley says flush the brake system every 2 years, you'll find testing the fluid more often than not it's still good. Flushing the system just pushes out any junk or build up out of the brake system.

Hi do you know if this supports all the various Harley-Davidson maintenance port plugs? 4 pin 6 pin, etc
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
It does and it comes with all the different cables you'll need to be able to hook up to any Harley, even the new M8's when they moved from the 6 pin to the new style. You get the cables to hook up to Indian, Victory, Yamaha, Honda, Polaris and BRP. It's fully functional with any fuel injected product from any of those manufacturers.

It works with any fuel injected Harley, plus it comes with all the cables to hook up to the electrical systems of different years. Also works on Yamaha, Honda, Indian, BRP, Victory and Polaris. The TSB's and troubleshooting guides are specific to whatever the Vin number of the bike is. It's really a very powerful tool, it's paid for itself to me many times over.

@gixxerfoo gixxerfoo. Not sure why but I can’t tag you in this comment. Just wondering if these informative posts, and no doubt the are very informative, are infomercials? In my case, it wouldn’t matter because I’m still learning from the material and I’ll make my choices and decisions about a product. However, it is good to know if your preference is influenced. @@GixxerFoo Thank you for the reply and disclosure. One additional question; One huge topic these days is the heat of the M8 engines. Does the ECM record engine temperature, oil temperature and if so is there a device that we can install to display that information while riding? Thank you.
@thangknowa32882 жыл бұрын
In the questions section of the product reviews, it states that it DOES NOT perform ABS Flush, it only reads the various codes. So, according to that, if you want to activate the ABS Module to completely flush the system, this unit will not do it. Flushing the system in the normal way without ABS activation DOES NOT remove all fluid. FYI. Snap On has one, but $$$$$$$$$.
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't perform the ABS flush but you can activate the system to allow you to push out the old fluid through the module. Yeah Snapon is stupid expensive!
@thangknowa32882 жыл бұрын
@@GixxerFoo In the sealed system, abs activation alone will NOT flush out fluid. The abs utility is the ONLY way to flush and remove old fluid from the abs system, AKA "ABS FLUSH".
@frankmarkovcijr54592 жыл бұрын
When the ABS system on a BMW goes bad it is a $2,400 repair. Most people simply bypass it so you have manual brakes like in the old days. Electronics don't have long life especially in the environment you find on a motorcycle. When something electronic goes bad people will simply live without it rather than pay the extravagant cost to fix or replace it. I have no idea how to work on fuel injection but I know how to take an Amal carburetor apart clean it three gasketed put it back together and it works good enough for me.

People buy these new bikes and want all the latest tech and options without thinking of maintenance later on down the road. It's expensive to buy and expensive to maintain having a shop do the work. I sure miss the nuts and bolts of just a simple carb cleaning and jetting.

Will this allow you to go into the system and reset/change the speedometer to display the correct speed or go into the section that allows (say on a 2018 Tri Glide) to separate the running lights from the head light to be independent of one another???? Or to flash the ECM if I decided to install a WIM??? Thanks for all the great info you provide!!!!
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
Yes it will perform a lot of function and I know for sure the speedometer is one of them. It's software works by vin and available systems on the motorcycle, it will flash software to the ECM but I am not 100% on if it can change your lights to operate independently. I'm not sure if on the Tri Glide if that's hard wired or controlled through the canbus system.

Harbor Freight has some decent code readers and the scanners are pretty basic. I've waited a long time for Harbor Freight to get something like this that works on just cars. Trick is you have to have vehicle specific software for a lot of the different manufacturers.

I’m a fan of “Right To Repair”. One reason I bought a Triumph. I can access everything through the OBD ll port ($25-30 two years ago) . I can upload/adjust tune, read/clear codes, purge ABS… I believe all manufacturers should use it. My KTM is a different animal, hackers are just now making headway, much less a guy messing around in the garage. Edit: Just looked it up and it’s now $21 on Amazon. If you have a Triumph the BARX Bluetooth OBDll reader is a must)

Before I ripped the Magnetti-Spaghetti out of my bike, I was watching the 'Scanalyzers' for this system. $1000?!?!?! I won't own or work on a Harley that requires such nonsense. A friend who owns an auto repair business does have a computer that does work with the Delphi system. IIRC, he has to buy software every year for Harleys.

That's all the Harleys are is the Delphi system, you can read and clear codes no problem. The software is what gets you, you have to have that to operate the systems and make changes. This unit actually has the software that allows you to operate the systems and make changes as needed.
