Are we not going to discuss the condition of the bike in the video? What's the back story on this one?

You're right GoGo, we never stop learning, some of us learn the hard way. I used to race flat track and speedway when I was a young bloke, never had anyone's help, just watching what others did and I would try the same. Now I'm 56, do the occasional track day, I pay more attention to people like you and ex GP racers who put tutorials on KZbin, and I'm faster than I ever have been. Keep up the great work.

Hey gogo, I love the videos. You should make one discussing how to crash. I hear lots of stories of people having a real bad accident on track and never getting their confidence back… then I hear of others who crash all the time and it doesn’t seem to affect them. Surely there’s ways to minimize injury if you are to crash (separate from just gear), but I don’t have any crash experience to draw from.

Thank you for the idea. I will definitely do this. I'm also thinking of creating a "trackday survival guide", because to be honest trackdays are far more dangerous than racing. EGOs are one of the big reasons why. More to come

I love this video... I spent this winter upgrading rear shock and adding cartridges to my ninja 400. Forks are due any day now, can't wait to start testing with the attitude of the bike!

This is probably the most un understood, underrated custom adjustment that every rider should be aware of. Your bike off the show room floor is not necessarily adjusted to your weight or your style of riding. Yes you can put the proper springs in for your weight and adjust them for your correct rider sag. But that’s just the start. Just like playing with your suspension clickers to fine tune the correct setting for your skill and speed. Chassis attitude can be fine tuned to your style of riding by just a few adjustments. Not all bikes off the show room floor have the same ability to make these adjustments. Just a few: Fork height. Another would be preload. More advanced would be a aftermarket adjustable shock with ride height adjustment, aftermarket fork cartridges, adjustable triple clamps. Even changing from one brand of tire to the next can change your chassis attitude. Anyway I think this is going to be another great series by Eric alias GoGo

I agree Robert. It's not a fault of the manufacturers. If I were building one bike for everyone imaginable I might send bikes out the same. But no bike off the showroom floor is really setup for anyONE of us. Yet most of us, me included for many of my first streetbikes, just ride our bikes the way we bought them. And this is a shame actually, because this one factor - proper setup for you - has the greatest impact on how much you enjoy your motorcycle, and motorcycling in general. Except riding two-up with the love of your life wrapped around your torso, that does kind of take a solid P1..

Hahahahaha. That is talcum powder, mixed with water and sprayed all over the bike. For 3D scanning. I am mapping the bike as it sits off the showroom floor, then building a 2D dimensional sketch which I hope to use to map the chassis. This is my first test of this. I will compare my sketch result to existing data that I already have on this bike, to confirm accuracy. If it works, which I hope it does, I won't have to drive 4hrs and pay $150 every time I want to measure my chassis attitude, trail, swingarm angle, etc.

These things are the weakest of the weak spots in all motorcycles with "sport" in the name that come off factory floors. The vast majority of riders have no idea what a bad handling bike feels like, vs. what a fantastic handling bike feels like.

One hundred percent agee. I think the reason for this is the vast majority of motorcyclists ride stock motorcycles, setup for the masses. So they've never "felt" what riding with a better setup bike is like. We don't seek what we don't know exists. I was guilty of this too, for a lot longer than I am comfortable acknowledging

@@superduked33 Agreed. And just like automobiles, the factory often tunes suspensions systems for comfort, compliance, and a lower common denominator for hazard (understeer in a slide, rather than oversteer). Motorcycles are much worse because of the massive difference rider weight makes on the machine (autos generally don't care), and manufacturers are constantly pinching pennies to remain profitable in a limited market (USA anyway). Suspension and brakes are a common impact for cost cutting as they are very expensive. There's a heap of performance potential baked into most sports machines, but it has to be investigated and coaxed out, usually with better aftermarket parts. I'm a fan of lower cost machines, but a large part of my buying choice motivation is whether or not the aftermarket has responded. I have run so many machines in factory guise and it's sometimes stopped me from developing my confidence and skill. Never raced, but I do understand racing.
This will save your life! How to trail brake on the street.
