Hello Everyone,
In this video I am going to be replacing the wheel bearings in the front wheel of my 2003 Honda VFR800 VTEC.
It is a pretty straight forward task that anyone can achieve themselves at home with a few basic hand tools.
Although I am carrying out the process on a VFR800, the procedure is identical across all makes and models.
There are of course some tools available that can make this job easier, and the links for each can be found below.

Bearing Puller Set

Another good video. Yes when I used to remove bearings used a slightly smaller axle. Then catch the edge of the bearing and tap it out. But whichever way all good. 🙂

Great video as usual. Just one thing, it looks like you used normal mineral oil based grease on the seals. I believe you should use red rubber or silicon grease with rubber seals as otherwise mineral oil based greases can break down the rubber over time.
@KevsShed
@KevsShed 3 жыл бұрын
Whilst in general I agree entirely with your comments regarding rubber components and red rubber grease, in this instance I used the grease that is specified in the factory service manual which states a multi-purpose grease is to be used. Silicone based greases are specified through the use of a different symbol in the manual.

Brilliant video and very informative. I've just bought a VFR800 and noticed a dry sound coming up from the front. It sounds a little like something is rubbing, but I've checked and there doesn't appear to be. It is louder on some road surfaces than others, and is noticeable at speeds as low as 20/30 mph. Thought I noticed an occasional clicking sound as well. Seems to me like it could be a wheel bearing problem, but wondered if you know whether this might be the case?

One of these days I will invest in a bearing kit for removing and installing.
@KevsShed
@KevsShed 3 жыл бұрын
The one that I listed in the description is very cheap and is probably more than adequate for a hobbyists garage. naturally a professional that pops out several bearings a day will most likely require something a bit more substantial.

Thanks for this video Kev ! Already done last year on mine, pretty easy as you demonstrated here. Do you think to show the same for the rear wheel ? a little more complex...
@KevsShed
@KevsShed 3 жыл бұрын
It is a very similar setup in as much as there are 2 bearings in the rear wheel however it employs needle style bearings, plus there is an additional bearing in the sprocket carrier. There will be a video on this in due course however, thanks for your support 👍

So ime on 32000 at the moment, she seems to be handling ok, been looked after also booking her in for a valve clearance inspection, ( to much for my abilities) so should I have them done as a matter of course or is their a way of testing them to see if they’re ok, I don’t hear any noises & theirs no rattle or shake?

@KevsShed
@KevsShed 3 жыл бұрын
@@terrymurphy2850 Yeah, if there was a problem with the bearings you would find that there is lateral play in the wheel when you spin it. Also there would likely be a bit of excessive noise. If you aren't experiencing either of those then they are most likely fine.
