Great discussions on mods made to refine setup for the rider and address vulnerable bits. This is an impressive motorbike that I will need to consider as a replacement for my competent, but heavy 2012 R1200GS.

Great review, I have a question about the comfort, I took a Tenere 700 for a 1 hour test ride from my local dealer and absolutely loved the bike, i had one small thing that bothered me and wanted to know if you experienced the same and if its adjustable, my right shin kept bumping into the right gearbox cover, is this a foot peg position issue or hight, will the higher seat change my leg angle ?
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV 3 жыл бұрын
I had the same experience. It's the plastic cover around the clutch activaton arm. I was very noticeable when I sat down and not so when I sootd up. I now have plastic covers to protect my clutch housing so that piece of plastic has been removed.

If you ride on the balls of your feet like you should for sport road/road racing and off-road I find you don't really bump into it. If you're the type especially when sitting to move your foot foward on your pegs in a more relaxed riding position is when you'll bump into it.

I'd like to see for the next model update tubeless tyres and a cruise control option for long Australian sealed road jaunts (it's available on the other variants that use this motor). But I doubt Yamaha will do either. Nevertheless not a deal breaker.

On medium/heavy adventure bikes, lowring tire pressure for offroad are never recommended. It will risk damage of the wheels, suspention and chassis because of the weight of the bike. It is only recommended on dirt bikes and light Adventure bikes. Tenere 700 is a medium weight adventure bike, so no tire pressure lowering.
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't agree. When tyre pressures are low for a reason you should be riding slower and not return to normal speed until tyres are inflated. But sometimes it is essential to lower pressures.

👍. Bikes coming along quite nice. Maybe I expect to much from the premium price tag on these bikes especially if u look at the price of the world rally version. Which has been out for 2 or 3 years. Without any upgrades. The amount of things u need to buy to actually turn these bikes into a actual adventure bike is a bit ridiculous really. Just basic things like a chain guide, hand guards, crash guards ect. Then u get to the suspension. Which sounds like it’s designed for a 60-70kg rider + a bit of gear. Maybe I do expect to much for the premium price tag. I even looked at the price of a drz 400. The only upgrade it’s had in 3 years is the ridiculous upgrade in price of $ 2800. How does that work?

I know a lot of riders carry camera gear and, like me, find the safest place to put it is on the tank. If everyone likes weight distribution of 790, why not make lockable compartment out of present gas tank location.?. France and Japan build the T7, I wonder if there should have been a North American build too. Calgary has a modded T7 somewhat like one of yours.

Hello Dave, still a very informative video with useful advice, even if you have already driven some km. I have a T 700 Rally and sometimes come with my height (175 cm, 5.7 food) to the limit. Meanwhile it goes better and I have come to terms. A reduction in height I have not yet made and would like that only as an emergency. To my question: Since the saddle is too high I can not climb directly but go first on the footrest and then swing the other leg over. So all the weight is on the side stand. Is this the right way? (There is no other way for me...) how does Clubby do it? (he's not a giant either). I'm going to assume that I'll need to check the side stand more often and replace it at some point if necessary, right? Thanks for your feedback Matthias

Love everything about the T7, and really would love to pull the trigger on one. My only issue is the weight. 5'8''/160 (172cm/72kg), I currently ride a WR250R and just love the bike. Only reason I am looking to get the T7 is longer freeway sections. I live in the states and you can't really avoid longer freeway at times. Your a better rider than I am but, I thought you might be able to offer some thoughts. Everyone shows how to pick up a T7, but its always on flat ground, nice grassy field, not tired from riding. Who cares......I want to know how it is when you dump it on a steep rocky hill, dead tired from riding all day, etc etc. I thought hard about a KTM 390 like but I really prefer the quality/reliability of Yamaha. The KTM 390 just seems like a cheep unreliable bike that will likely strand me in the middle of know where. Anyway love the channel and appreciate all the effort you guys put in. Thanks for any feedback. Cheers

I've just placed a purchase order for a T7! Now have to wait until October for delivery!! In the meantime, I'm soaking up as much knowledge as I can from your experience with T7's Dave. Your video's are very informative & are well worth watching. I'm not a 'gun' off-road rider but I think I'll be contacting Clive Ward with regard to a re-spring & re-value for a "good budget set-up". Thanks for a series of great videos.

touching base with Clive would be a very good idea. He owns a T7 and has a heap of knowledge about them.

So much information for me to absorb I think I need a new XXXXL helmet and this is months old info . You guys must have a lot more knowledge about what works and what doesn't by now . Plus I know there's more companies making more gear and accessories for the Tenere now . I am still waiting for a B&B bash plate but I might go with Altrider if theirs works with the SW Mototech center stand . Thanks for the video , will keep watching !

I'm impressed nobody has a tubeless conversion kit. And a question. Has any of you, using the R&G covers, noticed an increase in temperature?

No increase in temperature that I am aware of. Tubeless conversion available from Rally Raid Products UK I think.

Before you do anything get rid of the front guard, it's too close to the wheel,if you get into heavy clay that guard will clog up with dirt and stop the front wheel from turning.

You can alter the height of the front guard a couple of centimetres. Yep I know what you mean, happened to me out west.

and with all the mods the bike seems to be the same $ or a bit more than ktm 790 adv r, at least in EU where the price difference is less than 2000$. I test driven T7 and liked it a lot, but as a road rider I would love to have more power on the street. The ktm seems to offer that... Tough choice!

What a scream, they have borrowed the snorkel from the good old DR. I think it’s a pity that there is no Traction control. I love it on my excf500 and I imagine it would be even better on the 790

it's a 689cc bike! Independent reviewers are saying that the motor is so consistently tractable from 0-5,000 that it doesn't need traction control (a goal Yamaha no doubt pursued). Then from 5,000 to 10,500 rpm the brilliant motor changes character for higher speed sealed road adventures.

Like your detail review I was amused with heated grips, suppose it does get cold over there. I have lived Brisbane years ago and have family there so know it gets bloody cold some days. Here in UK ffffreezin
