How to Protect Yourself on a Motorcycle Trip - Safety first.
The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler - Online Course: rtw-adventures...
Its sounds scary to travel with motorcycle in different country, especially if we know nothing about it. The news today makes it even worse, representing the world like a dangerous place and frightening us with all of these wars and problems. As usual I will try to convince you that it’s not exactly like that.
N: 1 - Change your perspective.
Change the way you see the world. If you think that to travel with motorcycle is a dangerous hobby, you are right, it will be. In other hand, if you believe that you going to meet only nice people on the road you will be right again! Change the way you see the world and the world will change for you.
N: 2 - Information
As you know in the modern days the information is everything. Find a trustable source of information. Forget about the news, read books, real stories, videos from the place you going to visit. Talk with people who been there. Learn about the different cultures and traditions.
N: 3 Religions
Respect their religion and don’t flag with yours. Don’t try to teach judge or to change them. As I said many times, some things cannot be change. Stop to believe that your country or your religion is the best on the world and anybody else needs to bend knees in front of you. You are not the sun, you are just a guy with motorcycle who want to see their country. You are visitor, your guest.
N: 4 - Avoid big cities
If possible avoid the big cities. Overnight in the town or village nearby will save you a lot of money and possible problems. You can find much cheaper hotels, restaurant and usually people in small communities are friendlier and open minded.
N: 5 - Do not drink with locals!
As you know the alcohol give some fake courage and even a peaceful and calm person could become a real dragon. You can do it only if you have friends there.
N: 6 - Hotels
Always choose a normal, not the high expensive hotels. You don’t need to show that you are one of those rich guys. Don’t look like fish, ready to be eaten. Be friendly with the locals and do not tell them more than they should know about you.
N: 7 - Money
Be careful with your cash. If possible keep as less as possible with you. Credit cards mean nothing in some countries, but the cash could be huge temptation and some people cannot resist on it. Split the money on two different places. Keep in your pocket the amount you going to need for the day. The rest hide somewhere, in your bike, luggage or in your clothes.
N: 8 - Weapons
If you carry a knife or axe for example hide it somewhere. Some people might be very upset if they see it. In fact a pepper spray will help you much more than you can imagine, but this is your decision. Remember this should be your last possible option. Before that you have to try to avoid the problems at any case.
N: 9 - Spot tracker device
If you worry about your safety get one of these devices. It will track you all the time and your family and friends will be able to see where you are at the moment. In the case of problems, you can text a message or just to press the help button and you shall receive it as soon as possible problem?
N: 10 - People are good
I know that it is hard to believe in that, but this is the best way to protect yourself. Instead of seeing enemy or treat in every person, focus on the good sides and future friendships. People around the world are good.

The smile is the thing which led me to the points such as 1, 5, 10..you are awesome man. In a village, people looked at me in a different manner on seeing my riding gears and stuffs. I just popped up a smile and they came up, spoke to me and some showed me the places around., you make a lot of sense man., I will watch out for your videos ., keep rocking man.

This is amazing! Thank you man. I couldn't agree more with your every word! We build the world for ourselves with our thoughts. It's like riding a bike - you go where you are looking at. If you focus on the negative, you'll get the negative. Focus on the positive, and you get the positive! It is that easy! Period! That's what people should teach the kids before the alphabet. This IS the A and Z of life!!!

Excellent video, really enjoy listening to you and getting your advice. I'd like to add one additional suggestion, actually an expansion on "information": get local information about the safety of the places you'd like to visit from people you trust. I lived for 2 years in the Philippines and traveled extensively throughout the country. Before I went to Zamboanga, in sourthern Mindanao, a province with a chronic insurgency problem, a Filipino colleague at work who was from the area recommended that I visit the beach that was made from pink coral. After I arrived in Zamboanga and checked into my hotel I looked out my window and there, just across a small bay, was the beach. It looked beautiful from a distance. I could see small water taxis ferrying 3-6 people just in front of my hotel, and I thought, tomorrow when I have the day off I'll take the taxi to the beach. Fortunately that day I asked my local contact about my plan. "Don't go," she said, "just last month a Japanese couple on their honeymoon was kidnapped on their way to the beach and are still missing. Next time you visit we'll arrange for the Philippine Navy to escort you." Sadly I never returned to Zamboanga, but I enjoyed myself while I was there and returned home to my family in one piece.

Very good advices. Thank you. I think in my riding group it's me with the most positive thinking when going to new destinations. For the next year we plan to travel up to the baltic states and one of my fellows read the informations from the Ministry of Foreign Affair and told me about the possible crime threat. I remembered her that they don't warn for London e.g, where bikes get robbed at red lights from scooter gangs and that we had no problems in other states, like Czech, Croatia and so on. But nevertheless with a smile we met a lot of nice people on our trips and made new friends.
